“God,
Seth…”

“I
know baby, I know…”

The
same thing driving her crazy was there inside me, ready and waiting to be
unleashed, and I didn’t want to hold back anymore. I ramped it up again, moving
harder and faster inside her as I started to drive us towards that perfect
finish. My mouth was hard against hers now, and we kissed as deeply as I took
her, every nerve and fiber intent and focused on what we were doing together. I
felt her breath hitch, her pussy shudder over my cock, and then she was crying
out, screaming into my mouth as it took the noise I wanted so badly to hear.
Her center clenched around me, milking my cock hard, and that was everything I
needed to explode within her, roaring over the edge of my own climax as my cock
pulsed.

It
took us a long few moments to come down, caught like that with breath ragged
and bodies shuddering with need and relief and everything we’d ever wanted.
When I finally did collapse to the side, I dragged her with me, curling her
against my side and pillowing her head on my chest. I ran my hand through her
hair as we were both silent for a long moment.

Eventually,
she looked up at me, her eyes still bright with pleasure, and something so much
more. I smiled to see it, leaning down to kiss softly before she propped
herself up against me.

“Seth,
I…”

I brought
her lips to mine and kissed her again, but her eyes didn’t lose that strong,
emotional glow and she reached down to run her finger down my cheek, cupping my
face as she leaned forward.

“I
love you, Seth.”

It was
a murmur, but no less powerful for that.

My
eyes widened, but the only thing on her face was the kind of blissful happiness
I thought you only got in movies. The words shot through me, making me shudder
with the strength of it as I crushed her to me, kissing her again, deeply,
intently.

To my
surprise, and no surprise at all, I found the mirror of her feelings deep
inside myself, welling up at her words in a way that wanted to explode and
shout and proclaim for all to hear.

I’d
never even thought about it, but…every protective, possessive instinct
responded with what I’d known all along.

Mine.

What
else could these feelings be?

“God.
I love you too, Bella. Mine. My Belle.”

The
eyes that I didn’t think could possibly get more bright intensified, and she
leaned down to kiss me again, every part of me melting against that one true
fact.

I
loved her.

God
help me, I loved her.

Bella
rose again, but she wasn’t quite done.

“All
of you, Seth. What we spoke about before, I can do it. I want to do it.”

My
body tightened, wanting to believe, but I shook my head.

“You
said you needed time, baby girl. I get that, you don’t have to—”

Her
fingers spread across my lips and for once in my life I shut up.

“I
didn’t need time for the question, Seth. I was never going to let you go. I
just needed time for the answer…to know how…but that doesn’t matter anymore. I
love you.”

To my
surprise, I felt tears prick my eyes. I didn’t cry.

I was
a fucking badass Navy SEAL.

But
her words ripped through me, promised me things I never thought I’d have.

Never
thought I wanted, or needed, until she came into my life.

Fuck.

“God-damn
it, Bella…”

I
kissed her again, overwhelmed and emotional and feeling like a complete idiot.
But it didn’t matter. With her, I could be an idiot.

She’d
love me anyway.

“We’ll
work it out together, baby. How to make it work. We’ll do it together.”

And
that was all either of us needed to know.

Chapter Twenty

Bella

My
fingernails drumming on the seat next to me, I checked my hair subtly in the taxi
driver’s mirror, but the still night hadn’t disrupted it.

At
least I hadn’t had to spend hours deciding what to wear - Seth had asked me to
come in the same gown I wore to the charity ball. I hadn’t been a huge fan of
bringing back the associations I had with
that
night, but I couldn’t
resist when he told me he’d been thinking of the way it swirled around my
curves all night, and he wanted a chance to get to know it more intimately.

Sometimes,
for a rough Navy SEAL, he had a way with words. Certain words, anyway.

We’d
agreed to meet at this party, instead of drive together in his truck, as we
figured we’d spent quite a bit too much time coming and going together in that
thing, and even if our parents were distracted, there was only so often you
wanted to tempt fate. The taxi was nicer on the face of it - elegant leather
seats with proper air conditioning - but I kind of missed his truck. And I
definitely missed him sitting next to me, driving with the cool competence that
I’d begun to associate with everything he did.

I was
already excited for the night out with him, and the slight anxiety at being
relatively open together in public was only adding another edge to it, if I was
honest with myself.

Maybe
Seth was right, maybe I
had
started enjoying the danger.

After
that night together last week, everything had changed for me. At first, I still
hadn’t believed what he’d said - what he felt - about me, but he’d never once
lied to me. So I’d started thinking about the things I’d done, who I was, and
what I was capable of. And to my surprise, I’d come away impressed.

He
made me feel like anything was possible, like the world was just there waiting
for me, and that he’d be with me every step of the way. With him beside me, how
could I fail?

So,
heart in my throat, I’d finally applied for that internship - I was a little
past the deadline, but I called them up and talked to them about what I was
looking for, how much I wanted it, and they agreed to process the application
anyway. Turns out, I could do things like that.

It
made me giddy and happy beyond belief, and even my father had commented that
I’d seemed happy - of course, he’d asked whether my studying for the MCAT was
going well. Luckily, my affirmation had been truthful, as the studying was
going well regardless. It didn’t make sense to rest everything on one option,
after all.

Seth
had called me a fool for ever doubting myself, but I could tell how much he was
enjoying my change in perspective. He’d shown me. Several times. In only a couple
of days.

I
grinned again as the taxi driver pulled to a stop at the old manor house,
giving a nice tip and getting out to look up at the nicely decorated place. The
couple hosting this did it every year around this time - an old ballroom style
party, that became more about the ‘party’ and less about the ‘ballroom’ the
further into the night you got. It was fairly exclusive though, and I was
continually impressed that my father usually managed to snag a couple of
tickets.

I
spotted Seth’s truck sticking out like a sore thumb among the fancy cars and
grinned to myself, casting around for him as I headed towards the steps to the
large, pillared entrance. He didn’t have the tickets so he couldn’t have gone
in already.

As I
approached one of the potted trees lending atmosphere to the beginning of the
steps, a strong arm curled around my waist and pulled me to the side. My breath
left me in a quick yelp, followed quickly by a laugh as Seth pulled me back
upright, hand still around my back and holding me close to him. Then I took in
what he was wearing and gasped.

He had
a full military uniform on, more formal than what he’d worn to the charity
ball, and fitting perfectly against his hard body, accentuating the line of
every muscle in a way that gave him a deadly edge, made slightly subtle by the
fancy trim.

“Ohhh…my…”

His
grin lit me up inside as he bent to breathe against my ear.

“I
thought I’d sweep you off your feet, my Belle.”

My
heart skipped a beat, even as I laughed at him. His mouth covered mine a moment
later, and I gave my giddiness up to him, returning the kiss with a passionate
embrace before we finally stepped back to look at each other.

He
offered an arm and I took it with a smile, feeling wonderfully silly about the
whole thing. We made our way to where a couple of people were checking tickets
and then we were through into the large entrance hall that staged the main
event.

Seth
shot me a sidelong glance.

“Do
all your friends have crazy big houses with rooms like this?”

I
laughed and shook my head.

“No,
this place was styled specially after the owners’ passion. And they’re not
actually friends - I barely know them. We just get tickets sometimes.”

“Good
thing too…because there are things I want to do to you on that dance floor that
friends of your father probably shouldn’t see.”

Heat
shot through me at the look in his eyes and I stepped closer instinctively,
feeling good beyond belief that we were out together like this.

“Talking
of…how come he let up on wanting to keep you safe after that little road trip?”

That
was a polite way to say
confined me to the house.
Seth really was making
an effort. I just shrugged as we explored together, getting the lay of the
place.

“I
think he was appreciative after the gala went off smoothly - mentioned that
he’d got these tickets and encouraged me to go. That was his way of saying he
was over it.”

Of
course, he’d suggested taking Kaylee, but still…

We
spent a bit of time enjoying the food and wine, chatting easily with each other
as we watched the other couples mingling and starting to dance. It was a fairly
relaxed atmosphere, but the whole style was very traditional and
olde-worlde
.
Something I’d always adored, and it meant a lot that Seth seemed willing to go
along with it. We managed - barely - to keep our hands off each other and avoid
doing anything inappropriate, but then Seth finally dragged me over to the
dance floor, and I got what I’d wanted for far too long.

As it
turned out, Seth could dance. Maybe not the old, traditional styles of some of
the dances they did here, but he knew enough of the basics to make it work and
then he just…kind of made it up from there.

I had
no idea whether it was military training or his own natural grace, but his body
melded against mine perfectly and as we twirled and turned it was everything
I’d imagined it would be.

“God,
Seth…where did you learn…?”

He
just laughed, the deep vibrations running across my chest as he maneuvered my
body as easily as he did during any other activity. The adrenaline and
excitement from feeling like I was soaring with him was almost too much.

“Someone
told me seduction was born on the dance floor…I’ve always rather liked that
notion.”

I
could damn well see
that
as we stepped together with a confidence and
accuracy I hadn’t expected before this evening, his hands lightly flitting
between my waist, my shoulders and my arms. He was never in one place, never
doing one thing at once, and I was mesmerized to be part of it.

We
stayed on that dance floor longer than I would have imagined possible, neither
one of us wanting to let go of the insistent movement of our bodies against one
another, my pulse beating hard as lust stirred through my blood. It was a slow,
sensual build - a long tease, and by the time we paused for a breath, my panties
were soaked with anticipation.

We
headed back to the buffet tables, but I almost wanted to leave then and there -
go home with him and live out all the promises his body had just made.

I was
about to say something to that effect when he paused, shifting slightly away
from me. He murmured quietly as he reached across me to get another piece of
cheese.

“Kaylee
just walked in behind you.”

My
blood froze, the hot desire replaced by a sudden anxiety. I looked up at him,
wondering what we should do, but we didn’t get a chance to discuss it.

“Bella!
I didn’t know you were coming tonight!”

I
turned to greet her with a smile that was a lot more forced than usual.

“Kaylee
- how did you get tickets?”

Her
eyes just twinkled.

“I
have my ways, you know that babe. Your father manage to pull them out of
nowhere again?”

“Yeah—”

“Seth!
You’re here too!”

I
rolled my eyes at her excitement, glad that Seth replied smoothly before I had
to try and lie. I was terrible at that stuff.

“Yes, Terence
suggested I escort Bella - meet some of the people here.”

She
glanced between us, and I hoped like hell she couldn’t read the way our bodies
were still bursting with the excitement and lust of the dance. Before she got a
chance to say anything else, a tall, dark-haired man came up behind us and put
a casual hand on her shoulder, pulling her into him. His eyes looked us over
briefly and raised an eyebrow at Kaylee.

“Friends
of yours?”

Something
about him rubbed me the wrong way, but Kaylee laughed lightly and leaned into
him, nodding and waving to us.

“Yeah,
this is Bella - I’ve known her forever - and Seth, her stepbrother. Guys, this
is Darren.”

I
nodded to him, and we exchanged pleasantries for a few brief moments, before he
mentioned getting something to drink and they drifted away. There were unspoken
questions in Kaylee’s eyes as she let herself be led off, but as I looked over
at them both, I started thinking it might be mutual.

“Did
you like that guy?”

It was
a stupid question, since we’d met him for all of two minutes, so I was
surprised by Seth’s blunt answer.

“No.”

I
turned to look at him with a raised eyebrow, more concerned that he’d confirmed
my assessment than I wanted to think about.

I
thought it more than likely my snap judgment would prove false - but Seth’s
instincts? I didn’t argue with those. He just shrugged though, and put an arm
back around me.

“Gave
me a bad vibe - plus, he looked at you the wrong way. But your friend seems
like the kind of girl who can take care of herself.”

I
nodded, slightly distracted, but let him slowly move me back to the dance
floor. Once there, I hesitated, glancing back in the direction Kaylee had left.

“Seth…”

“One
dance. To get you back in that mood I was
so
looking forward to enjoying
later tonight. And then we’ll leave, promise.”

I
couldn’t argue with that, and as we melted back into the slightly faster dances
that were starting up now, the tension left my body. I could get to the bottom
of Darren later - this evening was about Seth and I. The dance did everything
he’d said it would, and by the time we slipped away, laughing and breathing
lightly, my body was on fire with anticipation.

It had
been as much as I could have asked for from a night out with him, and I was
light with happiness and laughter.

He
didn’t waste any time in getting us home, and once we were back, we spent the
night fulfilling every promise our bodies had made on the dance floor.

*  *  *

The
loud ringing of the phone sitting on my nightstand made me jump, reaching for
it with a groan as Seth’s arms tried to pull me back towards him. His voice was
still sleepy as he murmured in my ear.

“D’you
have to get that?”

I
glanced at the caller ID and groaned.

“It’s
Kaylee - if I don’t she’ll probably come by with a megaphone and stage a
protest outside the window.”

He
grunted, but there was amusement in it as I rolled away from him and tried to
sit up, hoping to hell he didn’t say anything. There was no good reason for
Kaylee to hear his voice at 8am in the morning.

“Morning
Kaylee - isn’t this a little early for you?”

“Wanted
to let you know I’m coming round.”

How
very generous.

“What?”

“I
need to talk to you, babe. It’s important. And I haven’t seen you in what seems
like forever.”

“I saw
you last night, Kay.”

The
thought of that - the way she’d looked between Seth and I and said not a word -
gave me an uneasy feeling about what she wanted to talk about.

Really
seen you. We barely exchanged two words, and—”

“Yes,
yes, okay.”

There
was no point arguing - I’d rather get back to a few minutes with the sexy man
in my bed than have a conversation that would only end one way anyway. And
besides, she had a point - we hadn’t exactly seen much of each other this
summer.
