He groaned, “I know. I don’t regret the baby but I do regret whom I’m having it with. This is another reason why I need to find an angle so that she can’t take me for everything in the divorce.”

Jamie shook her head, “Men, all you care about is your money.”

“We do care about our money. Come on, you don’t want a broke man. We can live happily ever after. I’ve always dreamed about our potential future together, marrying you, and having kids.”

“You will never be broke.” Jamie laughed. “You have so much money that your great, great grandchildren will be filthy rich even if no one works.”

“Did you hear anything that I just said?” Nathan asked.

Jamie heard him but she didn’t feel comfortable envisioning a future with him. What if he let her down? What if she created a fairy tale life in her head and it all came crumbling down on her? No, it was easier to not dream. It was simpler to keep your expectations low so that she couldn’t be hurt. She couldn’t afford heartbreak because heartbreaks took time to get over and time was money.

Nathan nudged her with his leg, bringing her back to reality. “Yes I heard you, I just don’t know how to respond.”

“Well, I can’t remember what it was like to be in a happy marriage and I want one with you. Is that something you’ll consider?”

Butterflies with gigantic wings fluttered in her stomach. He’d just made his intentions about her very clear. It felt amazing. It was exactly what she needed. She laughed lightly.

“What’s so funny?’ he asked as he placed kisses along her collarbone.

“It’s just funny how I try to lock you out of my heart and mind but you get past all of my defenses without trying.”

“It’s because you’re not supposed to keep me out. You can’t lock me out if I have the key. Just don’t change the locks. However, I’m a master locksmith so that won’t help you. We’re meant to be.” Nathan pulled her against him.

She felt his bulge against her back—thick, hard, and pulsing. Her body responded automatically and she tingled at the center. Her body missed him. She turned to him and placed her hungry lips against his. Their kisses quickly turned aggressive.

Nathan ran his tongue along her bottom lip, waiting for a clear invitation. Their tongues met and the taste of his mouth in her hers caused her to moan. He tightened his grip around her waist and ground against her. She nipped at his bottom lip. She wanted him right there on the couch but she needed the complete experience. She wanted it all and settling for the couch wasn’t going to work.

It took all of the power within her to stand up and stop kissing him. The look on Nathan’s face was priceless. He looked like a rejected canine. She ignored him and reached her hand out to his and pulled him off the couch. As he stood, he laced his fingers through hers and took his other hand in hers to do the same thing. It didn’t take the lovers long to get back to where they started. Their lips came together like magnets. It had been less than thirty seconds but it felt like an eternity since she had Nathan’s lips on her own. She pulled her hands from his, put them on his hips, and pulled him closer to her. He used that moment to take her face into his hands to intensify the already electrifying kiss.

Jamie started backing them into the hallway to get to her room. They needed to get to her bed as soon as possible so that she could feel him inside of her, pulsing, pumping and probing. She missed the feel of him. It had been far too long. She’d been upset with him for far too long. Who was she kidding? When she denied him, she was only punishing herself. That didn’t feel like a very sound idea at the moment.

Before they reached the room, Nathan took control and stopped them in the hall, right outside of her bedroom door. He pushed her against the wall and for a moment, drank in the sight of her. To him, she was damned beautiful; she looked as if the hands of God personally sculpted her. What had he done to get so lucky? Jamie was beautiful on the inside and out, and her heart belonged to him. He wanted to cherish it.

Jamie couldn’t take the anticipation anymore, not when he was looking at her like that. She moved in to continue their kissing. Nathan grabbed her hands in his again, lacing his fingers through his. He slowly moved her hands above her head, making it harder for her to move beneath his touch. He separated their lips and began a sensual assault along her neck. She was only able to moan with pleasure. She loved the feeling of him taking control of her. It didn’t last for long. He let go.

Jamie reached behind herself, grabbed the doorknob, and opened the door. He gently pushed her into the room and moved around her to sit on the bed. He pulled her into his lap so that she straddled him. His hands roamed into her pants and palmed her tight ass. He pulled her against his erection and they humped like teens in heat before he lay down, pulling her with him. His hand moved to the back of her neck and moved into her hair. He flipped her onto her back and explored the area between her legs. She squirmed beneath his touched and opened for him as he slipped a finger inside of her. She came undone.

“Undress, now,” he demanded.

They rose to their feet and quickly ridded themselves of the cloth barriers between them. After they stood naked, Jamie reached for his hands and led him to the bed and pushed him down on his back. She kissed his mouth, and then moved downwards, taking care to kiss his chest. From there, she continued to move south, kissing his belly and arrived at his throbbing dick, the dick that she missed so much. Lifting his head to see, Jamie smiled wickedly and took his tip into her mouth.

“Fuck, Jamie!” was the only thing that escaped his lips.

Jamie slowly enveloped more of his dick with her mouth until finally she had taken the entire thing inside her. Her lips covered her teeth and she began to move in a vertical motion. She missed him; she missed the feeling of him swelling in her mouth. Nathan held back, but it was becoming more and more difficult. The aching pleasure he felt was intense. After a few more moments, Jamie moved off the shaft and licked her lips. She used to tongue to circle the now extremely sensitive tip. She couldn’t get enough of him. She licked the base and moved up the shaft.

He suffered enough, she thought and positioned herself between his thighs, she looked up and smiled. “You’ve been patient long enough.”

With that, she began to give a mind blowing blowjob. Nathan’s heavy breathing was now short and sharp. He couldn’t hold back any longer, his release came from him in a steady stream. She was careful to catch it all. She didn’t know what came over her but she wanted everything that came from him. She’d been without Nathan for far too long, now he was back where he belonged, with her.

Nathan laid on his back and sighed as Jamie rose to meet him. “How was it?” she asked.

“That was beyond anything I could have imagined. I didn’t expect you to finish me off.”

“Well, you’re spending the night right? We have plenty time for more.”

He placed a kiss on her mouth, “You’re right.”

With that, Jamie turned her back to Nathan and he wrapped his arms around her. She snuggled into him and they fell asleep.

A few hours later, Jamie woke up to a poking in the small of her back. Nathan was ready for another round. She stirred and was more than ready. She turned to face him to see if he was awake and hoped that it wasn’t just his body’s natural response.

“I’m awake,” he said gruffly.

“Good,” she said as he rolled on top of her.

Nathan slid inside and thrusted. Jamie moaned as he entered her and brought her hand down to rub her clit. This time, Nathan couldn’t hold back and shortly he came inside her. Jamie continued to rub herself as Nathan withdrew. Soon Nathan joined her and inserted his fingers inside. He placed pressure on her spongy g-spot. She was so close. Her breathing quickened as she rubbed faster, the promise of her orgasm was coming. Nathan enjoyed having his fingers inside of the woman that he loved. Within moments, her hips thrusted upwards and Jamie’s moans became louder until she was hit with a wave of unbridled pleasure. Out of breath, she let his hand rest on her soaking wet center. Nathan came up beside her again and took her into his arms.

“In the morning I’m going to try again, and this time it’s going to be a production,” Nathan promised.

Jamie giggled, “Promises.”

They fell asleep shortly, not waking until morning.

***

Jamie was exhausted and sore but it was due to the multiple sessions she and Nathan had. Now he was zipping around her loft and she could barely get it together. She gulped down the hot black coffee with the hope it would help her quick.

“Are you okay?” Nathan asked.

“Mmhmm, although I can’t feel my legs.”

“Sorry babe, I had a lot of making up to do and I couldn’t let you think that I lost my touch,” he grinned.

“Oh believe me, I definitely got the memo,” she laughed. “I got the memo loud and clear. Now I’m paying for all of the fun we had. I’m so tired.”

Nathan patted her butt and kissed her cheek. “I’ve gotta get out of here because I didn’t bring a change of clothes and I still need to get to the office.”

“Yep, I know. I have to get an early start this morning anyway.”

“Okay, I know that we’re getting everything on the right track but we still have to keep up appearances as if everything is normal,” Nathan warned.

“That’s kind of difficult considering that nothing is normal.”

“I know, but Stephanie is extremely unpredictable right now and who knows what she might do next. My priority is to keep you safe and that’s exactly what I’m doing.”

“All right, I’ll catch you later.”

“Bye, babe.”

An hour later, Jamie sat in her office, but Hawk interrupted her morning meeting with her staff. What in the hell did he want? He wasn’t one to interrupt and he usually had good manners so she refrained from chewing him out. One thing that she didn’t enjoy was being interrupted. Her schedule was strict and any deviations from the plan could throw her entire day off. So when interruptions occurred, she preferred if it was only her clients. Her personal business had to wait.

“Hawk, this better be good,” Jamie said as they entered her office, “You know that I don’t like being interrupted. I have a ton of shit that I have to get done today.”

“I know but I have some news that I don’t think can wait until the end of the day. I think that it’s something you would want to know right now.”

“Okay then lay it out for me.”

“You may want to sit because it might shock you.”

Jamie rolled her eyes, “Dude, are you blind? Nothing shocks me anymore.”

“Okay, well sit down anyway so that I can show you some photos.”

Jamie was annoyed but she indulged him anyway. They walked over to her couch and took a seat. Hawk pulled out his iPad and pulled up images and handed it to her.

“Scroll to the left and you’ll see what I’ve come up with.”

Jamie looked at the photos and saw pictures of Stephanie. “Where is this?”

“It’s at a hotel.”

“At the bar?”

Hawks nodded. “Keep scrolling.”

After the fourth picture, Jamie was ready was throw the laptop. It couldn’t be real. She zoomed in on the photo and the truth stared her right in the face. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”

“Yeah, I’m sorry. It shocked me, too.”

“What the hell is Christian doing there with Stephanie?”

“Keep scrolling,” he said.

Shakily, Jamie did as he told her and then saw envelopes being exchanged between the two of them. Suddenly, Jamie felt ill.
Why would he know who Stephanie was and what was he doing meeting her
?

“What’s going on here?” Jamie asked.

“Well, I obtained her phone records,” Hawk said as he pulled out papers from his bag, “This is the number she’s been calling frequently for the past three weeks.”

The number was to Christian’s cellphone. Jamie nodded out of instinct, not because she understood. To say that she was shocked is an understatement. Her hands shook and her heart pounded as she tried to make sense of something that was unfathomable.

Chapter13

Jamie delegated her task list to the rest of her staff so that she could focus on what was more pressing. After feeling confident that things would be handled, she called Nathan.

Nathan picked up after the first ring. “Hello?’ he said warily.

“We need to talk. I don’t know what to do!” Jamie said as she paced her office.

“Okay, calm down and tell me what’s wrong.”

“What’s wrong is that I want to bash your wife’s face in right along with my ex-fiancé! I don’t know what’s going on with them but they’re talking to one another and exchanging envelopes and shit! What is going on? Did you know about this? Did you know that she was talking to Christian?”

“How did you come by this information?”

“My PI showed me photos!”

“Okay, we need to figure something out and fast. I don’t want that man anywhere near you,” Nathan said.

“Fuck that,” Jamie said. “Fuck all of this. I’m going to his office. I need some answers and I need them now. I can’t just sit back and let him completely screw me over, I refuse to.”

“No, I don’t think it’s a good idea. We have to be smart about this.”

“I’m not sneaking around and pretending like I don’t know anything, Nathan! I can’t. That’s not a part of who I am. I need some answers and I need them now. I just wanted to keep you in the loop about what was going on. I will talk to you later.”

Jamie hung up, grabbed her purse and headed out of the door.

***

Jamie’s car pulled up to Christian’s workplace. She called him beforehand to let him know she was coming. He sounded excited and offered to meet her outside. Her blood boiled as his frame came into view.
How could she once love someone so much and then want to kill them
? She hopped out of the car with her phone in her hand.

A huge grin spread across Christian's face when he saw her. “Hey Jamie,” he said as he tried to pull her in for hug.

Jamie took a couple of steps back and placed her hand on his chest to put some space between the both of them. “Trust me, you don’t want to be too close to me right now. I’m way too tempted to punch you in the face.”

The smile Christian once wore, fell. “What’s wrong with you?”

Jamie scrolled through her phone to find the photos, “How about I just show you?” She put the phone to his face and waited for his reaction.

Christian’s shoulders fell. “I’m so sorry. I should have told you.”

“Told me what? That you were setting me up?”

“No it’s not like that. I was minding my own business one day and that woman came to me and offered me money to give her some information, but I didn’t. I told her that I wasn’t interested in her money and that’s it.”

“So you’re just going to stand in my face and lie, huh?” Jamie asked in disgust. “I thought that we were better than that. I know all about the phone calls! You don’t talk to someone that much when you’re declining money. You’re such a liar!” Jamie yelled.

Christian was faced with the decision of telling the truth or keeping up with the lie he connected. Jamie knew everything, so there was no use in keeping it from her. “Okay. You’re right. Something is going on but it’s not my fault.”

“What in the hell is that supposed to mean?” Jamie crossed her arms.

“It means that I’ve always felt less than you! You’ve always been successful and everything you touch turns to gold!  That’s why I did what I did. That’s why I had to turn to fraud just to keep you.”

Jamie shook her head quickly and tried to process what he just said. “Wait, you mean the crime that you were found innocent of?”

“Well, yeah but everything wasn’t on the up and up. They had to let me go because I didn’t do what they claimed but…”

“You were still doing illegal shit,” Jamie said in disbelief. She said it in a whisper and more to herself than him. She was finally able to see Christian clearer. He wasn’t innocent; he deserved to be in the cell he got locked up in.

“Christian,” Jamie continued, “You have to tell me what you did. What did you do? What did you sell her?”

“I can’t tell you,” Christian replied plainly.

“Wow, this is how you treat the woman that you love? I thought you loved me.”

“Don’t try to pull that card,” Christian scolded. “I did love you, but clearly you loved someone else all along. I was never going to reach you because your heart belonged to someone else.”

“Who?” Jamie asked incredulously.

Christian laughed slightly. ”Now who is lying?’ He pointed behind her.

Jamie turned around to see a very stern and intimidating Nathan. “What have you done?” Nathan asked Jamie.

“I don’t have to say shit to you,” Christian spat. “I’m not one of your minions so I don’t have to answer to you.”

“I will buy this fucking business just to fire your ass and then I will blackball you so that no one in the world will ever want to hire you again,” Nathan replied.

“I’m not worried about you.” Christian took a step towards him.

Jamie never saw that side of Christian before; he kept it well hidden behind his smile. It was feral. It had to be something he picked up in prison.

“No, I don’t want you two to fight out here,” Jamie said.

Her words fell on deaf ears because Nathan took the opportunity to punch Christian in the face and sent him stumbling back. Jamie gasped loudly.

Christian recovered and took a few more steps back. He looked at Jamie sadly, “You’ll probably never see me again but I just want you to know before you find out that I’m very sorry it all ended like this. I meant everything that I ever said to you, in regards to my feelings.”

“Fuck your feelings,” Jamie said. She wanted Nathan to punch him again. Sympathy didn’t mean anything from a person that was selling you out. She’d let that snake back into her life and into her home. They’d become close and she considered him to be her friend. He was never her friend.

Christian walked down the street to his car, hopped in, and drove off. Jamie tried to get to him; she had so much more to say. He didn’t just get to walk off that way. He didn’t get to screw her over and then walk away but Nathan held her back. She looked around and saw people with their phones pointed at her. They were recording.

“Fuck,” she groaned.

Nathan ushered her back to the SUV, they hopped in, and Perry drove them away from the forming crowd.

***

The ride was pretty silent. Jamie was so scattered that she didn’t even know where to tell Perry to take them. She just wanted to be away from everything. She wanted to disappear. How could he do that to her? The real problem was that she didn’t even know what he did! A horrible feeling settled into the pit of her stomach and she rocked back and forth. Nathan reached for her hand and gently rubbed it.

“It’s going to be okay,” Nathan soothed.

“Don’t say that. I don’t want to hear that, not right now. What I want to do is hunt him down and kick his ass!” Jamie yelled before she kicked the back of Perry’s seat. “I’m so sorry Perry! I’m so sorry.” Tears streamed down Jamie’s face, “I shouldn’t have kicked the back of your chair. I need to get a grip.”

“It’s okay Jamie,” Perry said. “My wife and children have done far worse. I got kicked in the balls by my three year old on accident last week. I’m built for pain.”

Jamie laughed. “Ouch. I guess you are.”

She leaned her head back against the seat and focused on her breathing. That’s what she needed to do. She needed to just breathe and think her way through it. She was an intelligent woman. There wasn’t any reason why this situation should get to her.

A half hour later they pulled up to a secluded diner with hardly any patrons.

“I figured that the two of you would want some privacy,” Perry said.

“Yes, this works. Thanks so much Perry.” Jamie put her heels back on, took the mirror from the back of the seat, and fixed her makeup.

“You’re beautiful,” Nathan assured her.

She smiled slightly, “Thanks, but I have to make sure that I look good.”

They walked inside of the retro diner and it felt like they’d been taken back in time. It wasn’t one of those 50s-style diners with bright colors and neon signs. It was carpeted, dreary, and had a ton of photos on the wall of celebrities that visited when the place wasn’t a hole in the wall. The tables had cranberry vinyl tablecloths and doilies beneath the silverware.

“Wow,” Jamie said.

“I know, but hey, it’s safe to say that people won’t know us here,” Nathan whispered.

“Fine, I’m not in the mood to go anywhere else anyway.”

“Welcome to Aunt Clara’s diner!” one of the gray haired waitress said. “Take a seat anywhere you like and I’ll bring over some menus.”

“Thank you.” Nathan smiled politely.

He ushered Jamie to a booth in the back of the restaurant. She looked around and scowled. Everything looked like it was going to be sticky. She was tempted to wipe down the booth with the hand sanitizer in her purse. But she took a seat and slid to the middle. Nathan sat on the opposite side.

“I’m going to call my driver to tell him where I am. That way he can start on his way to pick me up,” Nathan informed her.

Jamie nodded as the waitress brought them glasses of water and sat down oversized menus in front of them.

“I’ll just have coffee,” Jamie said.

“You sure? Our fried chicken is on point. You may want to try it girl,” the woman said.

“Actually, I’ll try it and you can bring her an order as well. We’re both hungry and need to eat,” Nathan said.

“You got it, you want coffee too?”

“No, I’m fine with water. Actually, do you have any sweet tea?” Nathan asked.

“Some of the best.”

“I’ll have a glass.”

“See, I like you,” the waitress said as she batted her eyelashes at him.

Jamie knew it was petty but she wanted to snap at the old woman for flirting with her man.

After the waitress walked away, Jamie tilted her head to the side. “Really?”

“What?” he asked. “We’re both hungry. I also want to see if the food is good.”

“You trust stuff that’s coming out of that kitchen?” Jamie asked.

“Stop being uppity.” He grinned. “If it doesn’t look legit, then we just won’t eat it. No biggie.”

Jamie sighed. “Whatever, we have other things to talk about anyway. Like why would your wife want to talk to Christian in the first place?”

“Whatever it is, it can’t be good. Stephanie is a nasty piece of work and we can’t put anything past her. I don’t know what’s coming but I can promise you that we will get through this together.”

“But how can we get through this together when you’re still with her?” Jamie asked. “I know you say that we’re in this together, but my car is the one that got driven off the road. She almost killed me. Now who knows what she has up her sleeve?”

“That’s something else that I wanted to speak to you about. There is no way that I’m spending another day in the same house as that woman, even if it costs me fifty percent of everything that I’ve built.” Nathan took the glass of tea from the woman and gave her a grateful “Thank you.”

“So how are you going to pull that off?” Jamie asked.

“It doesn’t matter. We’re going to figure it out, together.”

“Then can you stay with me today? I don’t want to be alone,” Jamie said.

Nathan nodded. “I’ll call the driver and cancel.”
