Ty straightened and crossed his arms, watching her carefully. “Why can’t this be both?”

She wasn’t going to answer that directly. “I mean, if this injury hadn’t happened, you would still be in Denver and everything would be the way it’s always been. I know you’ve been happy with our arrangement.”

She did know that. It had been perfect for both of them.

Ty nodded. “It’s been really good.”

“So I was thinking about how all of this makes more sense now. That’s all.”

A few seconds passed, then Ty turned and headed for the door.

Hailey stared at his back. Okay. Was he upset? Had he said his piece and that was it for now? Was he—

He stopped at the door.

The sound of the lock turning was so loud in the quiet that Hailey jumped.

Ty turned to face her. “Mute your phone.”

“Wha—”

“Do it, Hailey.” He came back toward her desk.

She reached out, her hand trembling with a sudden surge of adrenaline, and pressed the button that would forward her calls to her voice mail.

“Now take your clothes off.”

Ty crossed to her window and twisted the rod that would close the blinds.

“What are you—”

“There are several advantages to my move home where you’re concerned,” he said, coming back to the desk. “One of them is being able to make love to you in the middle of a workday on your big mahogany desk.”

She swallowed hard. She should
not
let him do this. But they’d been arguing and that was like Viagra for Ty.

Still, he’d said
make love
. Not fuck. Not
make you scream.
Make love.

“Cherry.”

He stopped with the desk between them. He cocked an eyebrow. “What?”

“The desk is cherry.”

Butterflies were swooping through her whole body, not just her stomach, and her clothes felt tight and rough against her skin.

“One of them is being able to make love to you in the middle of a workday on your big
cherry
desk.”

It wasn’t just the words—though she couldn’t remember him ever saying
make love
before. It was the way he was looking at her and the warmth in his voice. Affection. Tenderness. Caring. It was all there.

How was she supposed to resist
that
?

Okay, so she could use a little adoring from him right now. Dammit. She hated that at the same time she embraced it. He was here for a dozen reasons
other
than her and she didn’t want him to be here because of her anyway, but knowing that at least she was a fringe benefit of him being here made her heart trip.

It was pathetic. If she was only a fringe benefit, she should slap him and shove him out the door.

But she wanted this. In high school, his notes and the occasional chocolate kiss in her locker and the constant compliments made her like him even though she had a hundred reasons why she shouldn’t. Him spreading her out and making her feel like the most beautiful woman in the world was something she couldn’t say no to. Just like she’d never turned down chocolate.

Hailey unbuttoned her shirt as Ty watched every flex of her fingers.

She shrugged out of the silky blouse and let it fall to the floor behind her. Her bra hooked in the front and as the clasp gave and opened, she saw Ty pull a long breath in through his nose.

The bra fell on top of the blouse and she reached for the zipper at the back of her skirt.

“I love when your nipples get hard from me just looking at you,” Ty told her.

They tingled too, but she didn’t mention that.

Her skirt pooled at her feet a moment later. She opted to keep her heels on.

“Make them harder for me,” Ty said, his eyes still on her breasts.

She knew he loved when she played with herself. It wasn’t uncommon for him to make her give herself an orgasm in front of him before he took her. It was a short few minutes though from undress to orgasm with him watching her, encouraging her with lovely dirty words.

Hailey lifted her hands to her breasts and fingered her nipples, rubbing her thumbs over the tips and then rolling and squeezing them.

“Fuck yes,” Ty said huskily.

His voice and the sensations from her nipples shot straight to her pussy and she was hot and wet in a matter of seconds.

“Show me how you’ve imagined doing this with me here,” he said, lifting his gaze to hers.

She had more than one fantasy actually. But she chose her favorite.

“Sit down,” she told him, nodding to the chair behind him.

“Not the fancy leather one?” he asked, taking a seat.

“My fantasy involves you coming in here wanting something and me making you do something for
me
first,” she told him. “You have to at least start off on that side of the desk.”

He leaned forward again, arms on his thighs like he had before, his full attention on her. “Well, I definitely want something, Madam Mayor.”

The way he was looking at her made goose bumps dance up and down her body, and she knew he took note.

Ty liked having power at all times. That was, at least in part, why he’d initiated this now. She’d been telling him that she wasn’t going to do favors for him as mayor. That had reminded him that
she
had the power in that situation. So he had to remind them both that he had her in the palm of his hand.

He loved knowing he could affect her without even touching her. She knew that power, the control, was another thing that made him such a competitor. He took control in his races and made sure things went his way.

No wonder he didn’t want to race anymore if he wasn’t able to ensure the outcome.

Well, he definitely knew the outcome here.

She rounded her desk in only her heels and panties.

Ty sat back so she could move between him and her desk. She boosted herself up onto the edge right in front of him.

She was already feeling pretty worshipped. His gaze roamed over her hungrily, and she noticed the way he was gripping the armrests.

He should have forgotten about her a long time ago. He should have walked away. But he never did.

She returned to playing with her nipples, close enough now that he could touch her if he wanted to. She spread her knees and ran a hand over the front of her panties. The pale purple silk was already damp, and she knew he could see that as well.

“I love when you watch me,” she said.

“I love watching.”

She pulled her panties to one side, and he groaned. She smiled. That groan. That meant she was making him crazy, and she loved knowing she could do that to him so easily.

Of course, there wasn’t a single other man in the world that she would do this in front of, so clearly he made her crazy as well.

She ran her finger over her clit and then dipped the tip inside. Ty’s gaze on her was better than any touch of her own though. She circled and dipped a few more times until she couldn’t wait.

“Come here,” she said softly.

As if he’d been waiting for the word, Ty hit the floor on his knees. His hands gripped her ass and his tongue was on her before she could take a full deep breath.

He licked and sucked, holding her still for his mouth, and all she could do was hold her panties out of the way.

And try to remember to breathe.

She felt her orgasm coming and she relished how effortless it was for him to cause it.

Ty thrust two fingers deep as he sucked her clit hard and she went up and over the edge that easily.

“Lie back.” His voice was rough, his jaw tight as he stood.

Hailey’s shoulder blades had barely hit the cold wood when she felt him grab the front of her panties and yank.

The tiny strings over her hips gave way as if he’d torn a piece of paper. She squirmed on the desk. “Yes, Ty, please.”

“Oh, Madam Mayor, you’re about to agree to anything I ask for.”

She heard his zipper and felt him step between her knees. He didn’t even push his jeans to the floor. He put a big hand on each of her thighs and pushed her knees up, propping her heels on the edge of the desk.

“I think we should have a Ty Bennett Day here in Sapphire Falls,” he said.

She grinned. “I don’t know. That seems very…”

He thrust forward, sliding into her, filling her up.

She gasped.

“It seems very what?” he asked.

She’d forgotten what they were talking about. “Amazing.”

He pulled out and thrust again. “I agree.”

She tried to move to wrap her legs around his waist, but he held her in place with his hands on her thighs, spread open to him, in total control.

He thrust again and again in a steady rhythm that started a burn deep in her core. But it wasn’t enough.

“More, Ty. Harder.”

“I think there’s going to need to be a statue too.”

Oh, damn him. She knew he was kidding about the statue, but not about the begging he wanted.

“Please.
Harder
.” She reached for her clit and circled it, pressing, feeling her climax building.

“So impatient,” he chided, picking up the pace, his eyes on her fingers.

Hailey arched her neck and picked up her pace as well. “You know, if these nooners are going to be a regular thing now, you’re going to have to learn to make this happen faster.”

He paused and she lifted her head. “Hey—”

He reached for her, cupping the back of her neck and bringing her up off the desk. Her legs swung over the edge as he brought her mouth to his. The kiss was hungry, and all Hailey could do was cling to his shoulders and hang on as he pounded into her.

Her climax rose swiftly, washing over her, and Ty was only a few seconds behind, groaning loudly through his release.

Their bodies shook for several long seconds afterward, plastered against one another.

Finally, she collapsed back on the desk and Ty leaned over her, bracing his hands on the wood.

“Damn,” he said appreciatively.

She smiled. “Agreed.”

“And these nooners
are
going to be a regular thing now.” He stepped back and readjusted his clothes.

She sat up. Ah, so that’s what had gotten to him. He liked the idea they would keep doing this after all.

She was so weak.

But her body was still tingling and she was having a hard time being upset.

She slid off the desk and started to redress.

“There was actually something else I wanted to talk to you about,” Ty said.

A knock sounded on her door. “Mayor Conner?” Tess called.

She zipped up her skirt and started rebuttoning her blouse. “Yes?”

“Mrs. Langston is here.”

Hailey smiled at Ty. “That’s fine. Mr. Bennett is on his way out.”

“But I—” Ty started.

“It’s Thelma,” she said. Ty knew Thelma Langston, and knew she was one of the more demanding residents. “I can’t make her wait. Call me later.”

“This is probably not a conversation for the phone,” he said.

Hailey suddenly wasn’t sure she wanted to have this conversation. “Sorry. It will have to wait.”

“Um, we have to talk about it before five, okay?”

What the hell? But there was something in his eyes that made her nervous for some reason.

“I’ll try.”

“It’s
really
important.”

“Okay.” She started for the door, hoping he’d follow. “I’ll call you if I have some time and we can get coffee or something.”

A public place seemed like a good idea. She couldn’t even pinpoint why. It was something about his tone. Or the way he wasn’t meeting her eyes now.

They’d just had sex and he couldn’t meet her eyes.

“I’m glad you stopped by,” she said, her hand on the doorknob.

Ty had come to the door as well. He lifted a hand and ran it over her hair, smoothing it, then drew his thumb along her bottom lip. “You look like you’ve been fooling around,” he said with a self-satisfied grin.

And now he was meeting her gaze again. Hailey ran her hand over her hair too and brushed the front of her skirt. “Too obvious?”

He shook his head, his grin softening into an affectionate smile. “You’re beautiful.”

She was also pantieless.

She wet her lips and said, “For the record, I think the training facility sounds like an amazing idea.”

“You do?”

“But I’m still going to vote against it.”

He frowned. “What?”

She nodded. “I’m not going to vote as mayor. I’m going to vote as your girlfriend.”

His frown eased at that. Then deepened again. “What? Why would my girlfriend be
less
supportive than the mayor?”

She shook her head. “
More
supportive. I think the training center sounds great. But it will also make it easier for you to quit racing. You can’t do that.”
