“A hundred?” Nate gasped. “So, what happens then? Will you hurt me?”

“God, I hope not, but, from everyone I know who’s gone through it, things are a little rougher, but no real injuries have occurred.

However, they all seem to be really happy the next morning.”

“Happy? Why?”

Joe looked at Nate in surprise. “Honey, when I said my feelings would intensify, I wasn’t kidding. And if what I feel for you now is any indication, you won’t be walking for a week when I’m done with you.”

Nate was silent for a moment. His face was a little red when he finally spoke again. “So, when you change on the full moon, we’re going to have sex?”

“Uh, yeah. But it only happens between mates. If you don’t want me to do this, we can’t mate. That’s the only way you can keep me away from you on the full moon. I’ve heard that the intensity is so bad that I’ll chew through steel to get to you.”

“No shit? “ Nate’s eyes widened. “Wow. I guess just saying
no
doesn’t quite cover it, does it?”

“That’s why I’m telling you now. You need to know this before we mate. I want you to have that choice, Nate.”

“So, you’d be in wolf form and what…take me like a dog?”

Joe was elated that Nate wasn’t running from the room screaming outright. He was willing to listen and discuss it. “Not exactly.

Normally, we just shift into wolf form. However, on the full moon we shift into something else.”

“What? A zebra?”

“No.” Joe chuckled. “We’re still wolves, but not the four-legged kind. I guess you could say we look more like the werewolves portrayed in Hollywood movies. We have more wolf like facial features, teeth and all. We also have fur all over. But we grow taller and bigger.”

“Bigger?” Nate cried out. “Joe, I’ve seen the bulge in your pants.

If you grow much bigger, I could die!”

“I’ve already told you, no one’s ever died from a full-moon mating. In fact, they all seem to be rather happy the next day. I know my mother seems to look forward to it every month. Hell, she has the damn date circled on the calendar.”

“So, if I let you mate me, then on the full moon you’re going to shift into a werewolf, and we’re going to have hot, monkey sex?”

“Hot wolf sex, baby, wolf sex,” Joe said, “but yeah, that about covers it. One piece of advice, though, do not run from me, no matter how scared you get. Just don’t run. Wolves like to hunt, and we are very dominant. I’d chase you down.”

“So, what does mating mean? You keep saying that word like it’s different than regular sex. What gives?”

“For us, mating is different than sex. I mean, sure, the mechanics of it are about the same. There are slight differences, though. When I claim you for the first time, I will bite you right here.”

Joe reached over and stroked the soft flesh between Nate’s neck and shoulder. He shuddered just from envisioning it. He couldn’t wait. He just hoped Nate decided he was worth it and stuck around.

“After I bite you, everyone in my pack will know that you have been claimed, that you are mine. It might hurt the first time. I won’t lie about that. But after that it kind of becomes an erogenous spot for you.”

“Really?” Nate asked as he carefully sat up and scooted to sit against the headboard, holding the sheet against his naked body. He patted the mattress between his legs, encouraging Joe to sit between them.

With a huge grin, Joe eagerly took Nate up on his invitation, crawling over his leg and settling down with his legs crossed.

“Anything else I need to know?”

“Well, this one we may or may not have to deal with.”

“What?” Nate sounded suspicious.

“Some mates, when they mate, have found that there is a slight side effect to their mating.”

62

Stormy Glenn

“Side effect? Like, I’ll become a shapeshifter too?”

“No. I’ve never heard of a made wolf. You have to be born into it.

But yes, side effects. Some mates get stronger or bigger. Some have taken on wolf tendencies like better smell and such.”

“Now that would be cool,” Nate whispered.

“You think that would be cool?” Joe asked, astonished.

“Hell yeah, to be able to smell better? I love the way you smell.

Besides, I’d always know where you were.” Nate chuckled.

“Anything else?”

Joe reached over and grabbed Nate’s hand. He wanted Nate to know he was telling the truth. “There is nothing else I can think of at this moment, no.”

“So, basically, if we mate, we’ll have sex, and you’ll bite me on the shoulder. Once we are mated, you’ll become even more dominant and possessive than you are now, the bite mark will become an erogenous zone, and I might or might not have side effects. And on the full moon you’re going to fuck me until I can’t walk. Did I miss anything?”

Joe chuckled. “Well, there is that whole…since you belong to me, I’ll protect you with my life, no one is allowed to touch you except me, and if we have any problems, we have an entire pack to help us out thing. Other than that, you’ve got it.”

Joe watched Nate stare at his hands for several moments, the silence in the room almost deafening. The next few minutes could make or break his heart. Nate would either accept him or not. The choice was his.

Finally, just when Joe was about to pass out from holding his breath, Nate looked up at him. There was a devilish twinkle in his blue eyes.

“So, when do you plan on mating me? Or do I need to beg?”

“Are you sure, Nate? Once I do this, there’s no turning back. I’ll claim you, and then you’ll be mine. I’ll never let you go, and I’ll kill anyone that tries to take you from me.”

Joe wished he had kept his mouth shut and just claimed Nate when his face suddenly turned ashen white and he dropped his head down to look at his hands, twisting them together nervously.

“Nate? What is it? Was it something I said? I—”

“No!” Nate exclaimed, his head coming up to meet Joe’s. “No, well, yes, but not in the way you think. You just reminded me that I need to tell you something, but—”

“But what?”

“I’m afraid to. I don’t know if you’re going to want to claim me after I…after you know.”

“So, you really are an axe murderer?” Joe asked, trying to lighten Nate’s mood a little. He was rewarded by Nate’s soft laugh.

“No, I’m not an axe murderer. But it might be just as bad.”

“Nate, just tell me already. It’s not like we haven’t already discussed some pretty serious stuff, secrets that we’ve trusted each other to keep. After discussing sempaths and shapeshifters, do you think that this will be that much harder?”

“No, I guess not. It’s just that—”

“Just tell me, baby.” Joe watched Nate take a deep breath. He let it go slowly before he began to talk.

“Do you remember me telling you that there was someone that wanted something from me? Something that I couldn’t give them?”

Joe nodded his head.

“I’m not really sure what his real name is. We just call him the Teacher.”

“We? Who is we?” Joey suddenly asked.

“The other students like me.”

“There are others like you? Other sempaths?”

“Well, not all of us are sempaths. Some are empaths, clairvoyants, aura readers, telepathathics…you get the idea. We all have some sort of paranormal ability, something Teacher uses to his advantage. We predict the stock market, find people, sit in on business meetings, whatever we’re told to do.”

64

Stormy Glenn

“And it’s all directed by this…this Teacher?”

Nate nodded. “Yep. He controls it all. It’s been going on for years, as far as I know. I think I was about five when he got me. I’ve been there ever since. That’s why I’ve moved around so much. He never keeps us in any one place for too long. That way we can’t learn the lay of the land and escape.”

“But you escaped?” Joe asked.

“By the skin of my teeth, and with the assistance of several of my friends that are still there. You have to understand. The Teacher is very connected and very wealthy. Because of the very exclusive services he can provide, he has his in hands in every government agency in America, and probably a few outside of it too.”

“The federal government? Like the FBI?”

“Definitely. Why do you think I was so freaked when you found me? If you had run my fingerprints, the Teacher was sure to zero in on me. My friends still try to keep him off my back as much as possible, but they can’t do it forever.”

“So, this guy is searching for you?”

“Oh, hell yeah, even if it’s just to kill me so I can’t say anything to anyone. I’ve been running from him since I escaped. I’ve learned never to stay in any place too long or to trust people.”

“Do you trust me?” Joe asked softly, anxiously.

“Yes, but only you,” Nate replied without hesitation. “As far as I know, anyone around you could turn me in for the reward money. It’s hard to turn down a half a million dollars. Besides that, the Teacher could convince anyone that they were just doing their civic duty turning in a wanted criminal.”

“I thought you said you weren’t a criminal?”

“I’m not. But people in power want me back under their control. I bring in a lot of money. Think about it, Joe, I can tell what emotions someone is feeling. I’m a human lie detector. If you were making business deals or trying to find out someone’s secrets, wouldn’t you

want something like that on your side? Wouldn’t you pay a lot of money for that?”

“Holy shit!” Joe exclaimed. “We can’t tell anyone about this, about you, except maybe my father. As leader of our pack, he needs to know. But other than that, I’d say keep up the silent treatment for others. At least until we can figure this out.”

“Now do you understand why I didn’t want to tell you?” Nate asked.

When Nate’s shoulder slumped and he scooted over to the side of the bed, Joe knew he was overwrought. For some reason, Joe could feel it, feel Nate’s emotions. He reached over and grabbed Nate’s arm.

Nate looked back over his shoulder, confusion written all over his face.

“Where are you going?” Joe asked.

“I was going to leave,” Nate replied. “You don’t want me to…you don’t—”

“I thought you wanted me to claim you. Why have you changed your mind, Nathan?”

Joe felt tears prickle the corner of his eyes. He couldn’t blink fast enough to hide them from Nate. He didn’t know if he wanted to. The thought of Nate leaving tore him in two.

“I thought…I thought you’d want me to go,” Nate whispered.

“Why would you think that?”

“Because of the Teacher,” Nate explained. “Joe, he’s not going to stop looking for me until he finds me. You don’t understand what kind of power he has. Besides the people he knows, he has a shitload of money. On top of that, he’s using others like me to find me.”

“Nate, the Teacher has nothing to do with you and me. Yes, he will still be looking for you. I get that. But you don’t seem to understand the power that you will have as my mate. Our entire pack will protect you. When it comes right down to it, there are a lot of packs out there that will protect you.”

66

Stormy Glenn

“Other packs? There are others like you?” Nate asked with shock.

“Sure, there are packs all over the world. Once we’re mated, we can petition the council for assistance. I have no doubt that they have more power than your Teacher has.”

“But why? Why would they even care?” Nate asked.

“Baby, that’s what I’ve been trying to tell you. When we mate, it’s a sacred thing. We take it very seriously. Maybe it’s because we only get one mate or maybe because not everyone is lucky enough to find their mate. I don’t know. What I do know is that once you’re my mate, you become part of our pack. That means you belong to us, and we don’t take kindly to others messing with what is ours.”

“Joe, I don’t want you to claim me if you’re only doing it to protect me. I’ve been avoiding the Teacher for a long time now. I can continue to do so.”

“Nate, take my hand,” Joe ordered, holding his hand out to him.

The moment Nate grasped his hand, Joe pulled him over to lay down next to him. As soon as they were cuddled up next to each other, Joe placed Nate’s hand over his chest.

“I am being totally honest with you when I say that having the pack’s protection has almost nothing to do with why I want to claim you. Yes, I want to protect you. Yes, I am glad that my pack will protect you. But I want you for me, nothing else.”

“Joe,” Nate whispered, tears coming to his eyes.

“I think it’s time for me to claim you, Nate, don’t you?” Joe asked as he rolled over on top of Nate, his body settling between Nate’s legs. He framed Nate’s face with his hands and leaned down until their noses were nearly touching.

“Well, Nathan? Knowing everything you know about me and what being my mate means, do you want me to claim you?” Joe asked, his gaze intent on Nate’s.

“Do you still want to claim me knowing everything you know about me?” Nate countered.

“Oh, hell yes.”

“Then I’m begging, Joe,” Nate whispered as he looked up at him.

“Make me yours.”

Joe instantly leaned down and claimed Nate’s lips, his tongue demanding entry, which Nate joyfully gave, opening his mouth. He was so ecstatic to finally be claiming Nate that he accidentally nipped his lips. The sweet taste of Nate’s blood as he licked it up sent shivers down his spine. Nate was perfect.

“I think you’re wearing too many clothes, Joe.” Nate murmured against Joe’s lips. His hands trailed down Joe’s back to the edge of his jeans.

“Easily fixed,” Joe replied as he jumped up to the side of the bed and began unbuttoning his jeans. Without even looking, he could feel Nate’s eyes on him, devouring each inch of naked skin revealed as he pulled his jeans off and dropped them on the floor.

He climbed onto the edge of the bed and grabbed the sheet, his grin devilish as he began to pull the sheet off Nate’s naked body. It was pure torture for Joe as he slowly pulled on the sheet, exposing Nate to his hungry gaze inch by inch.
