BERNADETTE PETERS

[She enters dressed as Dot from Sunday in the Park with
George.]

Ladies and gentlemen, this restaurant is a temple, and
we are here to worship the gods who write Broadway
musicals. Tonight, I am pleased to announce Stephen
Sondheim.

[As she sings, she displays and changes window cards of
various Sondheim shows.]

[She holds up piano lid, revealing a color picture of
Stephen Sondheim. She lowers the lid. The pianist is
now bearded a la SONDHEIM. BERNADETTE leaves as
SONDHEIM sings.]

"Send in the Crowds"

SONDHEIM

[A copy of The New York Times miraculously appears.
SONDHEIM gets up from the piano to read the review
of one of his shows as the piano continues to play by
itself ]

"I Ham What I Ham"

[GEORGE HEARN is discovered, rouged and lipsticked
but imperious as hell, in La Cage wig, necklace, and
boa. Suddenly, he breaks into tears, overcome by the
injustice of it all. I
