They always
made love in the bed, but she loved when he surprised her with a
racy rendezvous. She would never forget the time he ripped right
through her nylons and had her squealing in her car. He had needed
inside her that urgently, and that much lust hadn’t gone
unappreciated. They had other fun excursions too, but that one
remained at the top of the list of her favorites.

Over the past
week, their relationship had seemed to grow more serious. They had
spent every last night together and she couldn’t imagine not
spending every night after that with him. She hadn’t told him, but
that had made her the happiest yet. They hadn’t actually discussed
taking their relationship to the next level, it kind of just
happened. She hadn’t brought it up for fear that he would think he
was getting too involved too quickly.

She had
dropped everything, and put her life on hold, to move closer to him
and give them a chance. So far, she had no complaints. In fact, she
was the happiest she had ever been. But the look on Skylar’s face,
when she lifted herself to a sitting position, scared her. He was
sitting on the edge of her bed and she instantly worried that
something was wrong. She crawled over to him and rested a hand on
his solid thigh, anxiously insisting that he make eye contact with
her.

“What’s
wrong?” She needed him to tell her, so she could make it better.
She ran her other hand over his shoulder, attaching herself to him.
She prayed that she wasn’t doing the opposite of what he was
expecting from her.

“Is it me?”
Her voice cracked, giving away her self-consciousness. Then she
released his arm, backing away, suddenly terrified by how important
their conversation had turned.

“No, Destiny.
Never you.”

Him
then?
He needed to spit it out already! “What?”

“I don’t know
how to say it exactly.”

Tears rested
in her eyes, as she waited for him to say it. What would she do
without Skylar in her life? She had enjoyed this past month, more
than she could have ever imagined. And he had surprised her.

She liked her
new place. She liked the small, sleepy city. Her job was alright.
But their chemistry had remained explosive. So what could possibly
be the problem?

Destiny had
done her best to remain independent and leave him as detached as he
wanted to be. But he was the one who had invited her to spend that
first night at his place, and he was the one who agreed to sleep
over every night after that. He hadn’t complained, and she had left
it open to him, if he wanted to leave. But he had always stayed,
meeting all of her needs, giving her everything she wanted.

Of course she
liked having her own personal security guard, especially when he
was all tattooed-sexy. But more than that, with Skylar she didn’t
have to be afraid of stepping out of bounds. Ordinarily, she would
strictly follow all the rules. After losing her job and having no
plan at all, it left it open for her to find a new way. Skylar
paved that way. He had her discovering things outside of her
comfort zone, and stopped her from restricting herself. Skylar had
her taking chances and sharing her hopes and dreams.

The past 30
days had been amazing, and that all stemmed from the craziest and
most outrageous decision she had ever made. She had picked up her
life and moved it to a new city, without any promises or
expectations. She hadn’t asked him for anything, until now.

“It’s okay.
Just say it,” she whispered, pressing her eyes shut.

Skylar turned
to her, cupped her cheek and brushed his thumb over her chilled
flesh. She was careful to hang onto her tears, but Skylar had her
getting ready for a fight. His eyes appeared to be filled with
discomfort and uncertainty. That indecision might have been her
only saving grace. On the other hand, she wasn’t going to let him
kick her to the curb first. She could right her wrongs later.

Destiny turned
away from him, stealing her face from his hand. “Forget it. There’s
the door.”

Her voice had
defied her, exposing her disappointment. But she stood up and
walked away anyway. After sliding off the lock, she was ready to
pry open the door and fling him out of it. Destiny twisted the
handle, but as she pulled on the knob, Skylar’s large hand
flattened against the door, pressing it shut.

“I’m not going
anywhere,” he growled, close to her ear.

Destiny
dropped her chin and closed her eyes. She had lost her nerve, along
with a couple of tears that dripped out of her eyes. She was so
confused and didn’t actually want to risk what they had worked so
hard to build. Her voice came out soft and sad. “Why?”

“Because I
love you.”

She could feel
Skylar’s hurried breaths on her neck and hear nothing more than the
beat of their hearts in the powerless silence.

“Say
something,” Skylar demanded, spinning her around to face him.
Skylar never took his eyes away from hers. Watching. Waiting.

Stunned by his
confession, Destiny blurted out the first thing that came to her.
“But you said you don’t like strings.”

There was a
slight pause. Then Skylar admitted it to her. “I don’t. But I like
you.”

A soft smile
crept up on her lips, as she glanced at the floor again, feeling a
little foolish.

Skylar kept
his hands on her arms and pressed her into the door, demanding her
attention. His chin hovered close to her neck and his voice
remained low. “Do you still want me to leave?”

She revelled
in the feel of his lips against her bare skin and his rough hands
on her arms.

“Well?” he
asked, not giving her a second to think about it.

She would take
whatever he would give her, but he was going to know the truth.
“No,” she whispered, but her voice was barely audible. She couldn’t
believe how tough this was for her, when she knew exactly what she
wanted.

“What was
that?”

“No,” she
stated, unmistakably. “I don’t want you to go.”

“Are you sure
about that, love? Because you look like you’re ready to kick my
ass.”

Stunning
herself with her confession, Destiny kept her head held high. “I
love you, Skylar.”

His answering
smile was almost magical. Skylar wrapped his arms around her, and
one of his hands slid over her hip and down to the juncture between
her thighs. His fingers glided over the silk of her robe and
caressed her through the sensual fabric.

“I thought you
might say that.”

Destiny tried
not to squirm as he stroked her, with his warm breath tickling her
lips. “Is that right?” she asked, just barely getting the words
out.

He tried to
pull out a sexy smirk, but Skylar couldn’t wipe the seriousness of
what he had to say from his face. His guarantee rumbled over her
heart like a freight train.

“Now that I’ve
found my destiny, I’m not letting go.”
