Everyone looked at me curiously, except for Danny who already knew what I was about to tell them.

“Why not?” Nydia asked me.

“Well, you know how Mum and Jeremy Fort are an item now,” I said, still with a little air of disbelief. They all nodded. “He's in Los Angeles at the moment, starting work on a new movie.” I allowed myself a little smile.

“He wants me and Mum to spend the holidays out there with him. Dad doesn't mind as long as he gets me for the next holidays so—we're going!”

“Christmas in Hollywood?” Nydia whistled through her teeth. “Cool!”

“Not
that
cool,” Sean said wryly.

“Oh, shut up,” Anne-Marie said mildly. “Cool as far as
we
are concerned. Imagine all the stars you'll see!”

“I know,” I said. “And, well, Adele's got a few people for me to meet out there.”

“What? Do you mean auditions?” Nydia exclaimed.

“No, just meetings, networking, that sort of thing,” I
said. “It won't come to anything. I'll be back before you know it.”

My four friends looked at me and at each other.

“Totally brilliant!” Anne-Marie said.

“Amazing!” Nydia said. “Just imagine!”

“I know,” Danny said, smiling at me and holding my hand. “Get ready USA. Ruby Parker goes to Hollywood!”
