“Cut that out. What are you doing and what is this thing?” Dani asked as she touched it. The moment her fingers hit the star the sting of electricity burst up her hand, through her wrist and arm, straight to her heart. She gasped and Margo looked surprised then smiled.
“Amazing.”
Dani grabbed the chair and took an unsteady breath. She closed her eyes to stop the dizzy sensations filling her. Instantly, she saw images, numerous ones of both humans and wolves. Again she saw the woman who died before her eyes.
“What is it? What do you see?” Margo asked, whispering next to Dani’s ear.
“I see her, the one who died at the warehouse.”
“Who was she?”
“A victim of the killer. She was bleeding when I found her. I locked gazes with her and told her that help was on the way. She looked so frightened, but then she heard me and saw my eyes and smiled before she died. I felt as if I helped her somehow, but she died before the paramedics arrived.”
“That’s it, Dani. That’s it, can’t you see? You are a healer. You helped her cross over. She was of the wolf and perhaps others there were of the wolf as well.”
Dani opened her eyes. She felt her heart beating rapidly, and trepidation tiptoed between her emotions.
“I don’t understand. How can that be possible?”
Margo took Dani’s hand and squeezed it. Instantly, she felt the fear and confusion disintegrate. Her entire being felt suddenly at peace.
“You must listen to me and embrace your destiny, Dani. It is time.”
Dani held Margo’s hand as the purple light illuminated again and something deep within Dani changed.
Chapter 3
The brass had insisted Dani take off the next three days, which led to the weekend, so technically she had five days off from work after the incident at the warehouse. She was pissed, and she knew that Margo must have been telling the truth about the secret wolf packs and organizations because she had never seen or heard of the brass that had told her she was off the case for a few days. She also noticed an SUV sitting outside of her apartment complex. Following her gut and this new inner sense she had since swallowing the wild tea Margo gave her, she opted to sneak in the back way and head straight to Margo’s place. That was where she hung out for the next three days going over more crazy talk from Margo and more about werewolves, secret orders, princesses, something about circle of elders and Alpha wolves.
They also discussed some possibilities of who the rogue wolf might be and how Dani could kill it.
It was early in the morning on Friday when Dani decided it was time to head back to her apartment. She was going to work whether the brass was happy about it or not. There was a killer out there and about a dozen other cases she was working on with other detectives that needed her attention.
Looking around the hallway, she began to unlock her apartment door then noticed it was already unlocked. Someone may still be in there. She drew her gun and took off the safety.

“What the fuck, man. This is not sitting right with me at all. I mean this is a fucking guy’s place and my wolf is about to pounce. We should call Van and the others.” Miele sat on the couch with a hard-on from hell and his wolf near the surface with need.
“We can’t call them. We need to wait until this guy Dani gets here. We’ll question him then find out about the woman. If this Detective Dani whatever is fucking our mate, I’m going to rip his fucking heart out,” Bently stated.
“Not before I do,” Miele replied just as they heard someone by the door to the apartment.
Miele remained in position on the couch. They smelled the place and the detective wasn’t a wolf, nor was it their mate, if the scent around the place was any indication. But there was a slight hint of something else. Something he and Bently didn’t recognize at all.

Dani pushed the door open and raised her gun.
“Who the hell are you?” she blurted out, eyeing the two extremely large men sitting on her couch. The cocky bastards looked quite comfortable.
Their eyes widened in shock and then their nostrils flared as they inhaled wildly.
“Oh shit,” one whispered. He was just as big as his buddy. They were wide-shouldered, and indentations in their tight-fitting T-shirts indicated that ripped muscles sat below the fabric. She felt something tingle in her belly.
She was only human, after all, and hadn’t had sex in a year. Either way, these two men were very attractive with muscles and tats to boot. She had to give herself a mental kick to remind her that they broke into her apartment.
She gripped her Glock tighter.
“I asked you a fucking question.”
“Put the gun down, sweetheart. We’re looking for your boyfriend Dani.”
Her boyfriend Dani? They thought Dani was a guy. Dumb asses made a stupid assumption. This could play out in my favor.
“Dani’s not here. Did he give you a key or do you make it a habit of going around breaking into people’s apartments?” she asked as she absorbed their bodies, trying to focus on looking for weapons instead of the bulging cocks they were sporting in those jeans they wore. Damn, the men were big, and why were they turned on by this situation?
Fear gripped her stomach. Were they planning on raping her? Were they wolves that Margo had mentioned might come to take over her case? Her instincts told her that wasn’t the case, and it wasn’t just because she found them attractive either. She couldn’t help but wonder who they were and why she was sexually aroused just from looking at them. Her entire body seemed to hum with acknowledgement. She needed out of this enclosed space and quickly.
“Remain where you are. I’m calling the police. You two assholes can’t go around breaking and entering,” she began to say, and one guy stood up.
“Don’t do that. We’re here to see Dani. He knows us.”
“Bullshit he knows you.”
“Hey, Dani, what’s going on? Is everything okay?”
Dani turned toward the doorway where her neighbor Freddy stood with a bag of groceries in his hand.
A glance toward the two big guys and she knew they were pissed.
“You’re Dani?” the other guy asked. She grabbed the handle to the door and pulled it closed.
“Get inside your apartment, Freddy.” She told her neighbor and she ran down the hallway toward the staircase. She wasn’t certain why she ran. She had the gun. She was the cop, but something in her gut warned her, or rather, egged her on to run. What was even fucking crazier was that she hoped they chased her. The thought made her pussy clench and her heart race with anticipation.
What the fuck?
Just as she descended the third floor, something swooped down from above her. She glanced up in time to see one of the men leap from two floors up and land on his feet in front of her. She was trapped in the corner of the stairwell.
How the hell did he just do that?
She was about to scream, to grab for her weapon when she locked gazes with glowing green eyes.
She was instantly pinned against the wall and now the other big guy stood directly next to the one holding her. Both their eyes glowed and she knew what they were.
Wolves!
“We’re not going to hurt you, Dani. As a matter of fact, we’re quite pleased that you’re a woman,” the one holding her stated.
Her chest heaved up and down. Her nostrils and mouth took in his scent, their scent, and for some odd reason it calmed her and made her vision blur. She closed her eyes as she attempted to calm her breathing.
“Who are you?” she asked in a shaky breath.
“We’ll explain, but you need to come with us.”
She shook her head.
The one holding her against the wall gave a dirty look.
“I’m Miele and this is my brother Bently. We’re with the Special Investigations Unit.”
Her eyes widened in shock. They were wolves, and as if they realized that she knew what they were, Miele began to explain.
“Anyone ever tell you not to run from a wolf?”
She shook her head and he leaned his face closer to her. He was damn good looking, which kind of sucked, considering that right now she didn’t know if he wanted to rape her, kill her, or just fuck with her head. She tried to tamper down her libido.
“You smell so good, Dani. And I’m so fucking glad that you’re not a dude.”
He covered her mouth with his. A smoldering, hot kiss that made her forget that the bulging mass of man was a stranger and that he would find her response to his kiss condoning to the action. No, she could not resist, and at the moment didn’t care that she was wedged up against the stairwell by a hard muscular body as hands explored her. The panicked feeling began to pull her back to reality, and as he pulled slowly from her lips, his hands on her hips without a care for her revolver or her lack of words, he smiled.
“Fucking delicious.”
Her pussy clenched and her face felt hot and flushed from his words. How brazen, animalistic, and hot. His thumbs brushed softly against her torso and he stared down at her. He was fucking toxic. A man as big and attractive as him shouldn’t be allowed to roam freely.
Bently now moved into position, taking Miele’s place. He gripped her hip and placed his other hand over her neck and under her head to control her body. He winked at her.
“My turn, sweetness.” She opened her mouth to reject his move, considering that she just sucked face with his brother, but Bently was already there, kissing the seam of her lips then plunging his tongue deep, exploring her mouth. The kiss was just as hot as his brother’s. She was lost in it until Bently trailed the palm of his hand over her hip to her lower back and ass before pressing her hot throbbing pussy against his engorged cock. The reality of the situation jolted her forward, making Bently’s lips rip from her own.
She shoved at his chest and moved to the side.
“What in the hell is going on here?” she asked, and both men looked smug.
“Why don’t we go back to your apartment? We’ll explain.” Bently reached for the waist of her pants and rubbed a thumb along her groin. The fucking nerve!
She slapped his hand away.
“I don’t think so. I don’t want anything to do with you or what you have to say. You had no right kissing me like that, either of you! This is my case and you’re not wanted around here. Leave now, or I will call the police.” She stomped up the stairs, surprised when the two men didn’t follow, but what was more surprising was the depth of disappointment that filled her belly.
* * * *
As Dani opened the door to the hallway, there stood Margo with her hands on her hips.
“What is going on?” She lowered her voice and leaned forward to whisper, not that anyone else was around them. “I smell wolves everywhere. Alpha wolves.”
Then she sniffed again, closer to Dani. Dani felt her cheeks warm as she pressed her hand against Margo’s shoulder to make her stop.
“What the hell is an Alpha wolf?”
“OMG! They kissed you. They totally kissed you.” She sniffed again and moved around her, smiling wide and practically dancing.
“Two of them right? How was it? Did the earth move? Did your belly go all gaga and other parts, too?”
“Stop it! Nothing happened. I don’t want to talk about this. I have to go to work.”
The door to the stairs opened and both Miele and Bently entered the hallway. By Margo’s gasp of surprise, then the way she lowered her eyes and bowed to the men, Dani had a feeling they were of importance in that were hierarchy Margo had mentioned.
