That was all they got from the
dragon as it took of into the air. Angel looked out to sea and just saw the
dragon and wizard flying. There was no indication of where it was going to end
up. Turning back to the door they found they were very tired and with watching
what the dragon showed them, it took a lot of work just concentrating on what
it was showing them. That made them even more tired and they still had a couple
more decks to pass through yet.

Finely arriving at the door to
their deck and quickly having a peek to see if there was any body around. They
found that hardly anybody there so quickly went through the door and locked it
behind them. Going into the meal hall they quickly got some food and took it up
to their rooms where they ate it quickly and went to bed.

This morning they were hoping to
get to their dragons today so Medwin, Maive and Shylyn could do the clearing exercise
with their dragons, then they could see if they would be able to see the
pattern in the spell. Again they found Gavrie was unable to take them in the
Crystal chamber and were going to go to their dragons when another wizard come
up to them and told them that they where in his class this morning.

They were to be working with
weapon spells, ones that charge the Dragon Lances. Lances were laid out on
tables some of them in bits as they were being fixed or used for training
propose. The lances were all the weapons, a Dragon Rider could have and they
were very good with them. When in a fight with Renegades the lance was their
best defence.

Angel looked at Dareed their
teacher and was about to speak but stopped. ‘You, have you heard of a Renegade
before?’  As the teacher looked right at Angel

‘No sir who are they?’ He was now
very interested in what the teacher would tell him.

‘A Renegade is just what it
implies they are renegade wizards who enforce their magic on dragons so they
can ride them.’ Dareed turned back to the lance he was holding as he spoke.

‘Where do they live sir, and how
many of them are there, do they ever attack the school?’ Angel wanted very much
to see if Dareed knew where they come from.

‘No one knows where they have
their base but it is believed to be on one of the planets in the realm. They
never attack here as they are not strong enough. Now let’s get on to loading
the magic into the lances.’ He was pulling a part out of one and didn’t see the
looks the four exchanged.

They spent the morning learning
how to recharge the magic in a lance. Dareed would be taking them for the next
four mornings as the head was not expected back till then. In the afternoon
just after the meal they were gathered at the door leading out of the school
and into the dragon deck when there came the warning to clear the decks as
there was a dragon about to land.

Angel and his friends quickly
stepped down by the door before all the students pilled into the school to get
off the deck and away from the dragon. As they stood there they could see the
dragon coming in from the sea and for a minute thought that it may have been
the Renegade they had seen yesterday. They now knew who they had seen in that
vision from the dragon. It was a Renegade.

Angel was looking at the dragon
as it was coming in and could see another two coming in behind them. It was not
long before Angel cold see it was his mother coming in and the other two were
probably his brothers.

Tish landed NightWing with such
grace; the two of them looked good together. Angel could see she had Gavrie
with her. His brothers landed and climbed down off their dragons and made sure
they were not upset being close to the wizards and the magic.

Tish and Gavrie come up to the
school door and looked at the four and told them they should be inside. That
was all he said as he hurried into the school leaving Tish to talk with Angel.

Angel introduced his friends to
her and then Angels brothers come over and he had to do it all again. ‘Now
you’ve meet my friends what are you doing here?’

Tish looked at him and gave him a
cuddle. ‘Just come to give you a nice big hug in front of your friends. No I’ve
got to be with Gavrie as he speaks with the school teachers so I will leave you
with your brothers, love you son.’

Rho-Marin came up to Angel giving
him a smile. ‘We’ve come to guard the school in case of attack.’

‘Encase of attack but who from
and why?’ Angel was in shock when he heard this.

‘Renegades have brought dark creatures
into this realm and they have just attacked the hatchery. We fought them off,
but this is the first time anything like this has happened. We were lucky there
were a lot of Dragon Riders home from other worlds or there would have been a
lot more damage. No young dragons or eggs were damaged.’ Rho was still in shock
that their young dragons and eggs would be attacked.

‘You now think they will attack
here, but why would they attack the school there are very strong wizards here
that can protect us all?’ Angel was starting to get worried.

Just then Tish came out and
stopped by them. ‘Gavrie will not take protection from us; says he would not
upset the dragons with all the wizards here, says they can protect themselves.
They are going to get more lances ready as it looks like we are going to need
them.’

Angel come up to his mother and
gave her a hug. ‘Don’t worry about us we’ve got some very strong wizards here
to protect us. You had better protect the young dragons if they have attacked
once then they will attack again?’

Tish gave him a hug and turned
and headed for her dragon. Angel’s brothers gave him a wave and followed her.
It was not long and they were in the air waving and gone. Angel looked at his
friends and they knew they would be attacked as the Renegade Wizard tries to
work on the spell again. But they were not going to let him; they headed to
their room to decide what they would do next.

Renegade

They had only been here about a
week and all of a sudden they have to confront a bad wizard. Something kids of
their age should never have to do but that’s the decision they have made. They
would stop the Renegade Wizard, but by themselves and they will not tell
anybody for fear they will lose their dragons.

Sitting looking out to sea,
thinking of a plan that will let them defeat the wizard. Angel could see the
fear in their eyes just like they could see it in his. He knew he had to be
strong and the decision of what they were going to do was with him.

They all knew they could not
stand by and let the wizard destroy the spell, but what were they to do.
Finally Angel got up and looked at each of them. ‘We have to find out more
about the wizard and the spell he is trying to work. That means we have to get
as close to him the next time he comes and see if we can feel the spell and see
what it looks like. Our dragons are the best way for us to know when he comes
as they pick up the pain his dragon gives out.’

‘We will need to learn more
spells so we’ll have to spend as much time in the library as possible. We need
more defensive spells and some to attack, but which I don’t know. If we see
what spell he is using and the one holding his dragon, that might give us an
idea as to what he is capable of.’ He headed out the door knowing the others
will follow.

They all fell in behind him and
as they got to the floor with the library on it, angel stopped. ‘We must find
some defensive spells, that will be you Medwin, Maive, and Shylyn and I look
for weapon spells.

Not knowing what to look for they
had to look at every page to see if there was some way of getting to the right
spells. After it was quite dark outside they had not achieved much and decided
they would have to have another think on how to find the right spells.

Shylyn had been sitting thinking
about this and had an idea. ‘Angel I think we need to be with our dragons and
try and think this out as a group. They are a part of us and so with them we
must find the way to go from there.’

Angel looked at her and nodded.
‘You’re right they are part of us and these decisions must be made together.
Come on I think it time we went to bed and sleep for tomorrow we must get to
our dragons and with Gavrie back it is not going to be as easy.’

What tomorrow brought helped them
a little for with the Renegades attacking Gavrie had to make sure his students
and the other wizards were ready. He had all the students start to learn
attacking spells and defensive spells so this way they were going to learn some
spells that could help them.

Gavrie pulled the four of them
aside. ‘This is going to get dangerous if we get attacked. I must let you
learn, for you will need these if the school is attacked. Now listen to the
teachers they know what they are doing and the best spells for certain attacks.
You will still be required to practice your clearing the pathways exercise. As
this is very important and cannot be stopped. Is that clear?’ All nodded their
heads.

Their first class was with an old
teacher and he taught them how to defend and throw up defensive shields. This
was like a bubble that you placed around yourself to stop certain spells from
entering. They were there for half the morning and then the other half was
learning weapon spells.

The class was run by a young
wizard, who would have left the school only last year. They found him good in
some of the spells he taught, they could be used for their purpose. One spell
was a small fire ball the size of your hand, you would build it in your hand
and then using another little spell throws it at the target. The ball of fire
would expand and envelop the object just so long as it was not too big.

With that class finished they
quickly grabbed some food and headed over to the door into the other deck and
made sure no one was looking in their direction. Finding it clear they went
through and quickly headed across the deck.

They could feel their dragons
eager to see them, as they had been able to feel their fear of the attacks and
of going up against the Renegade Wizard. They were quickly to the deck where
their dragons awaited them. Going over to be with their dragons they found a
calm come over them now they were with them. They all found a spot in the sun
on the deck and formed a circle so they would be better able to see each other
as they talked about what was going to happen.

‘We need to work out how we will
disrupt the wizard as he tries to work his spell, without getting caught. We
could do what we did yesterday and as he weakens the spell we heal it again.
The only trouble is he will get wise and come looking for us and we won’t be
ready to face an adult wizard.’ Angel knew it would be hard.

They needed new ideas as to what
they could do. ‘What would happen if we were able to free his dragon from the
spell he would be trapped here, but the only trouble being, we are in the same
situation with us having to face him and he will be to powerful?’ Angel was
starting to get frustrated as everything they thought of ended up having to
fight the wizard.

They did not at the moment know
what to do, so decide to go for a fly around the deck just to help them think.
They had been doing this for a bit when the dragons started doing mock fights
and that got Angel thinking.

Angel flew around each one
indicating the deck. ‘What if we were to attack him in the air, then he would
have to fight us and his dragon at the same time, which would give us an
advantage?’

They all smiled thinking it a
great idea; the dragons were going to practice play fighting to get use to it. They
stayed and watched them for a long time still thinking of things that could
help them. Medwin suddenly jumped up. ‘What if we grabbed some Dragon Lances
and learn to shoot them from the backs of dragons. That would give us another
edge over him?’

It was getting late so they
headed back to school passing the area that had been damaged by the wizard.
There was no sign of where the spell had been fixed. They all placed their
hands on the area just to make sure it was good. They found a trace of the area
and could feel the spell unbroken.

Getting back to school they were
again nearly late for the evening meal and Gavrie was in there watching them as
they entered. He smiled at them and carried on talking to the other wizards at
his table. They sat down and started to eat but every now and then looked at
Gavrie and could see he was looking at them.

Finishing their meal they hurried
up to their common room where they could speak without being heard. ‘We're
going to have to be careful, for you could see Gavrie looking at us as we come
in late. Also every now and then he would look over at us with a funny look on
his face. We’ll have to watch the time we spend with our dragons and make sure
we’re back in plenty of time.’ Spoke Angel.

Medwin nodded his head. ‘I saw
him as well but we must put time in with our dragons that’s important’

‘We might be able to get our
dragons to give us a ride to the last deck that can’t be seen from the school.
That would get us back quicker and still give us our time with the dragons?’
Shylyn looking around at the others to see what they thought of the idea.

Maive looked at them and got up.
‘There is one problem with that idea, the renegade wizard, for if he is around
we can’t do that. We must be certain he’s not there.’

Angel was looking out the window
and had been thinking of something that may help. ‘There might be one way, we
know when he is here because our dragons pick up his pain and anger, but what
would happen if our dragons were taking us to the deck close to the school and the
renegade wizard saw us as he come to the deck. We would be seen?’

Medwin looked dejected as he
spoke. ‘Then we will have to keep walking all that way back and just have to
lose that time with our dragons.’
