Wes swore he saw stars as he came, filling her with his seed. “Cherry.” He managed to say her name, but nothing more. He thrust and grunted, his body heaving until he had nothing left to give.
He leaned over her, sweating and panting. Her eyes were closed and perspiration dotted her skin. He leaned down and licked the curve of her breast. It was a shame he hadn’t paid more attention to these two beauties.
Cherry gave a half laugh, half groan and batted him away. “No more. I’m done. You two are insatiable.”
Wes froze over her. “You’ve already seen Remy?”
She nodded. “He told me where to find you.”
Wes eased out of Cherry’s comforting heat, tucked his cock away and did up his pants. She sat up and pulled her bra down. Her skirt was still rucked up around her waist, exposing her wet, pink pussy. He yanked the fabric down before he went down on her again.
There was so much he needed to know. “You said you wanted to talk.”
Cherry winced when she stood and wobbled slightly. Her knees were weak and none too steady. Wes was there before she could blink, taking her by the arm, making sure she didn’t fall. She started to reach for her blouse, but he was there first. He slipped it on and had it done up in a jiffy. It was only missing one button. Frankly, she was surprised it had survived at all.
Her underwear was a small wad of fabric by the door and she staggered over to pick them up. She didn’t bother to put her them on. She needed a shower in the worst way, but there was something else that needed to be done first.
Wes was watching her and she could see the underlying questions written on his face. “We should go to the house and talk. The three of us.”
“All right.” Wes walked toward her, scooped her into his arms and kept going.
Startled, she let out a slight cry before relaxing. She knew he wouldn’t drop her. “I can walk.”
“I like the feel of you in my arms.” And what could she say to that?
He broke stride when he caught sight of her truck and the tarp covering the back. He didn’t say anything, but she could feel the sudden tension grip him.
The sun was warm on her skin and she smelled of barn and sex. She wrinkled her nose. “I need a shower.”
“After.” Wes took the steps to the back door. The two dogs appeared out of nowhere, tails wagging as they waited to go inside. Before either of them could open the door, Remy was there. He held the door wide and Wes carried her inside with Bourbon and Whiskey tight on their heels.
The two dogs went straight to their food dish in the mudroom, but Wes carried her into the kitchen. He hooked the leg of a chair with his foot and pulled it out. He sat and tightened his hold on her. “Talk.”
She didn’t know whether to be amused or irritated. She decided on amused. Wes was being extremely patient, all things considered. Remy sat across from them and leaned back in his chair, looking totally relaxed.
“I don’t know how this will work,” she began. Wes pulled her closer, his arms a gentle prison. She knew then he feared she was going to leave.
“We’ll make it work,” Wes insisted. “It’s nobody’s business what goes on between the three of us.”
“That may be, but with the hands working out here almost every day, one of them is bound to see something and they’ll talk. That’s human nature.” She’d thought a lot about things when she was gone and had come to the realization she could live with the gossip, the stares, the accusations of immorality. What she couldn’t live without was Remy and Wes.
“Fuck.” Wes sighed and kissed the top of her head. “One of us will marry you. That will keep people’s mouths shut.”
“You’re asking me to marry you?” It was all Cherry could do not to laugh. The proposal was strangely similar to the one Remy had given her. The Smith brothers certainly weren’t going to win any prizes for their delivery, but there was no doubting their sincerity.
Wes closed his eyes and rubbed one hand over the back of his neck. “Yes, and I’m doing a piss-poor job of it.” He cupped her face and brushed his thumb over her bottom lip. She pressed the tip of her tongue against his skin and he groaned. “Stop that before it gets you into trouble.”
She laughed, feeling lighter than she had in a long time. “Maybe I like trouble.”
A small smile played at the corners of Wes’ mouth. “I want you to marry me. Or you can marry Remy. Take your pick. Doesn’t matter as long as you marry one of us. It’s just a piece of paper so it doesn’t matter whose name is on it. You belong to both of us.”
“I think she should marry me.” Remy spoke for the first time since Wes had brought her inside. “I’m the oldest and the folks in town are a little more scared of me than they are of you. That will keep some of the talk to a minimum.”
Cherry looked back to Wes, wondering how he felt about that. He slowly nodded. “You’re known for your patience with horses, but not with your fellow man, that’s for sure.”
Both brothers grinned.
“Well, sugar?” Wes asked. “Will you marry Remy?”
This had to be the strangest proposal on record. “So you’re asking me if I’ll marry your brother and sleep with you.”
Wes shook his head. “No, I’m asking you to marry Remy to protect you and your reputation as much as possible. I’m asking you to be my love, my woman.” He kissed her and sighed. “I love you, sugar. More than you’ll ever know. I’d marry you if we both could. You have to believe that.”
“I love you too.” She threw her arms around his neck and hugged him tight. His arms trembled as he hugged her and it awed her that she could affect such a strong man like that. “I believe you and, yes, I’ll marry your brother.”
Wes laughed and Remy’s low chuckle soon joined him. “Well, hell, if I’m the one getting married, I deserve a kiss too.”
Remy’s chair scraped back and he came around the table, leaned down and kissed her. Sensing something important was happening, the two dogs circled them and whined for attention.
Sitting in Wes’ lap with Remy’s lips on hers, Cherry had never felt happier. This was what she’d run from all those years ago. Maybe she hadn’t been ready back then. No, scratch that. There was no way she could have handled such a relationship all those years ago. But she was a grown woman now and she knew her own mind. She was under no misconceptions and knew their relationship wouldn’t be easy, but it would be oh, so wonderful.
She was breathless by the time Remy ended the kiss. Wes laughed and planted a quick, hard kiss on her lips. The two dogs, wanting in on the fun, both jumped up and put their paws on her lap. She laughed and rubbed both their furry heads.
“Out, you two.” Remy walked to the back door and opened it. “You can lick her to death later.” The two dogs reluctantly left her and trotted outside.
Wes dropped a kiss on her neck as Remy shut the screen door behind the dogs. “Now all we have to do is go to Boston and get all your stuff.”
He didn’t know. Neither of them did. She grinned at them both and pointed her thumb toward the back door. “Already done. All my stuff from Boston and the boxes from the ranch are in the pickup. I packed everything up when I went back to the city. I’m moving my business down here. I’ll need an office somewhere in the house.”
“You can have any damn room you want.” Wes’ smile was brighter than the sun. “I’ll build you your own office if you want. We’ve got plenty of space.”
His generosity filled her with joy. “No, a room in the house will do just fine.”
“Maybe the old housekeeper’s rooms off the kitchen,” Remy suggested. “When we were kids, we had a live-in housekeeper. The rooms haven’t been used in years, but the bedroom and sitting area would work great for an office and there’s a small bathroom there too.”
“Sounds perfect.” Cherry was looking forward to exploring their house a little more. Her house now. No, her home.
She grinned at both men. “I brought a lot of other stuff too.”
Wes stood and deposited her on her feet. He gave a mock groan. “I can see it now, the entire house will be covered in frilly doilies and pink curtains.”
Remy pulled her into his arms. “I don’t give a damn if she paints the entire house pink as long as she’s in it.”
Wes playfully fluffed the top of her head, making a mess of her already tousled hair. Her careful hairstyle hadn’t survived Remy and the simple style she’d managed to fix after that hadn’t survived Wes. Since they didn’t seem to care what it looked like, she didn’t either. Although, she knew that sentiment would probably change the minute she saw herself in a mirror.
“I need to get showered and changed and then we can bring in my stuff.” She was already looking forward to blending her life with theirs.
Wes brushed his jeans. “I could use a shower too.”
Remy lifted one arm and gave a sniff, making her laugh. “A shower wouldn’t hurt me either.” His gaze heated as his eyes stroked her up and down. “And there’s an extra-large shower stall in the main bathroom.”
Remy took her hand and led her up the stairs with Wes right behind them. How had she gotten so lucky? Only a few weeks ago it seemed as though her life was over. Now it felt as if it was just beginning.
She stopped on the landing. Both men stood beside her, waiting and watching. “I love you both. You know that, don’t you? I know things will be complicated and we’ll disagree on things, but I’ll do my best to make you happy.”
Remy touched one side of her face. “Darlin’, I’m the luckiest man in the world. The woman I love and want has agreed to marry me. You’re right that I’m not an easy man sometimes, but you’ll never doubt that I love you and am committed to our relationship.”
Wes touched the other side of her face and she leaned into his familiar touch. “Sugar, I love you so damn much. Just seeing you makes my heart fill with joy. And, yes, Remy isn’t an easy man to live with.” That earned a smirk and a laugh from Remy and Cherry couldn’t help but smile. “But I’m very easygoing. When he’s being an ass you can spend more time with me.”
“In your dreams,” Remy taunted.
“Exactly,” Wes quipped. He dropped his hand and started walking backward toward the bathroom. “We’re double or nothing, Cherry. We both love you and always will. Everything else will work itself out.”
Cherry believed him, believed both of them. Love filled her heart even as desire pumped through her veins. She walked toward Wes, a sultry smile on her face and a sexy sway to her walk, knowing Remy was right behind her. “Now how about that shower?”
About N.J. Walters
N.J. Walters worked at a bookstore for several years and one day had the idea that she would like to quit her job, sell everything she owned, leave her hometown and write romance novels in a place where no one knew her. And she did. Two years later, she went back to the same bookstore and settled in for another seven years.
Although she was still fairly young, that was when the mid-life crisis set in. Happily married to the love of her life, with his encouragement (more like, "For God's sake, quit the job and just write!") she gave notice at her job on a Friday morning. On Sunday afternoon, she received a tentative acceptance for her first erotic romance novel, Annabelle Lee, and life would never be the same.
N.J. has always been a voracious reader of romance novels, and now she spends her days writing novels of her own. Vampires, dragons, time-travelers, seductive handymen and next-door neighbors with smoldering good looks all vie for her attention. And she doesn't mind a bit. It's a tough life, but someone's got to live it.
