“God, I’ve missed tasting you,” Shane said, his words muffled by my thighs, but his eyes were on my face. “Even if it was only one time.”

“Don’t stop,” I said in a heavy gasp.

He grinned at me and went back to work, which consisted of a hard suck on my clit which brought another sharp moan to my lips. He teased me to the edge and then stopped to kiss my stomach or my belly button. He’d wait until I started to shudder with need, and then he’d dip his head back between my thighs again. It was an erotic game of peek-a-boo, and I loved every minute of it.

“Please,” I said. I wasn’t even sure what exactly I was begging for other than the release that had been denied to me for so long. Shane stood up, and I went straight for his belt buckle. “You’re wearing too many clothes,” I said with a wicked grin. “Show me that Super Bowl worthy ass.”

If there was a record for the fastest clothes removal, I was pretty sure that Shane would have just won it by a mile. But he gave me exactly the eyeful I had been waiting for, and my mouth watered as I finally took in the stark beauty of his long, lean, hard body including his stiff cock, which stood up straight and at attention.

“That’s for later,” he said as he gripped my hips and yanked my body close to his. “I’ve waited too long for this.”

“Too long,” I agreed as I hooked my arms around him. His mouth found mine, and I tasted myself on his tongue. I eagerly reached for him, but he batted my hand away. When I felt my body rise up off the piano, I stifled a yelp.

“Let’s talk about long,” he said against my lips.

I gasped as he moved my hips so that as I straddled him, and my body sank down onto his hard girth. He gave me just enough room on the piano so that I didn’t feel like I was falling, but that thought left my mind as he began to move against me.

“God babe, you are so fucking tight,” he groaned. “You fit me like a glove.”

I didn’t remember Shane being much of a talker, but I didn’t mind at all, especially when he made me feel like the sexiest, most desirable woman in the world.

I hooked my arm around his shoulder and braced myself as he moved against me. He slid out just enough to tease me and then slammed back into me. My head fell backward. The build was coming in waves even faster now, and I knew there was nothing I could do to stop it from overwhelming me, and I didn’t want to.

“Yes! Shane, yes!” My voice came out in a short scream as the pleasure crested over me, and I felt a brief flash of pain as Shane yanked the back of my hair so that my eyes locked with his. I saw the tightening lines around his mouth, and then I felt the hard swell of his release inside of me as he climaxed.

He buried his head in the crook of my neck even as his body shook against mine. I wrapped both my arms and my legs around his body cradling him close to me. For this moment, we were complete. The rest, well, the rest of the world would be waiting to invade this bliss far too soon. I wasn’t in any hurry to face it.

CHAPTER SEVEN

I woke up feeling as if I had the best night of sleep of my entire life, even though I was pretty sure Maddy and I hadn’t gotten much sleep at all the night before. The interlude on the piano led to another one in the bedroom that I was pretty sure lasted for at least a couple of hours. I was officially addicted. I couldn’t get enough of her. Those were the thoughts in my mind as I stretched across the bed and felt it was warm but empty. I opened his eyes and saw Maddy standing there getting dressed.

“Where you going, beautiful?”

Maddy looked at me with a soft smile. “Some of us do have to work early, and I have to go home first.”

I looked at the clock. It said 5:30 am. I patted the bed next to me. “Come back to bed. I’ll call in sick for you.”

“Calling in sick for the doctor? I think not. Thanks, though. It’s only my second week, Shane. I still need to make a good impression in this job. It’s important.”

“You said something about that last night,” I said as I pulled myself into a sitting position. I had been so intent on getting Maddy into my bed that I hadn’t stopped to ask too many questions about her life now and what had brought her to D.C. I supposed it would be a good idea to slow down now. “I honestly thought that you would never leave Rosewood.”

Madeleine winced, and I sensed that I had hit a nerve.

“This job is a fresh start for a lot of reasons, but primarily it’s going to give me some extra room to be able to help my parents out financially. One of their employees embezzled a lot of money from them, and it’s put the business and their finances in bad shape. So getting a job with the Gilmore Institute and the raise that came with it was a big coup for me.”

That didn’t surprise me at all. The practice that Madeleine had joined was the largest and best in Washington D.C. That’s why it had been a natural fit to also provide support for the Redskins.

“I’m sure everything will be fine. Your folks are smart. They’ve had their business for what, ten years?”

“Fifteen. And to be honest, they’re pretty shit at it. Just like I said. Or weren’t you listening?” Madeleine shoved her shirt into her skirt and winked at me. It was clear that she wasn’t going to say much else on the topic.

“Well, maybe it wouldn’t be a bad thing for them to start over. They could even move here to D.C.”

Madeleine looked at me in surprise. “The business is all my parents know how to do. I promised that I might help out to try to keep the business going until they might find a way to save it. They’ve done so much for me over the years. They’re just staying with me right now… helping me out. For the time being.”

I sensed there was more to that statement than she was letting on, but Madeleine didn’t give me a chance to ask anything else.

Helping her with what?

She leaned across the bed and gave me a quick peck on the cheek. I moved to pull her back into bed with me, but she moved quicker than me. I had to admire that; not many people were faster than me in close quarters.

“When will I see you again?”

“I do have appointments with a couple of your team members later today,” she said somewhat reluctantly. “I’ll be onsite for most of the day.”

“Give me a minute. I’ll take a shower, and then we can go in together.”

“I told you I have to go home first. Thanks, though,” Maddy said.

I felt as if she was slipping away from me then. I got up out of bed, and I saw that she was surprised that I moved so quickly and seemed unfazed by the fact that I was naked as she averted her eyes from my lower extremities. It probably also had to do with the fact that my erection was completely on display.

I pulled her into my arms. “This isn’t a one-night thing. I hope you know that. I don’t want that again. Never again.”

She bit her lip and looked down to the floor. ”We’ll talk later. I have to go,” she said. She gently pushed off of my chest and moved away. She gave me a small wave she left the room. I couldn’t help but feel as if a warm ray of sunshine had somehow disappeared from my life.

I waited impatiently until the afternoon wondering if she would text or call. By then, I’d heard the whispers from my teammates that alerted me to the fact that the new hot doctor was on the premises. I was still feeling a little sore about the way that Maddy left that morning, but I told myself that we just had to give it some time. I couldn’t expect her to just jump into a relationship when we hadn’t seen each other for almost a decade. I had been the one back then who’d been willing to make the commitment, but Maddy had been the one with the cool tone who broke it off.

She told me it was for my own good. She told me that she didn’t want to be the one that stood in the way of my dreams. She had been completely wedded to Rosewood back then. It was where she’d grown up, and it was where her parents were. In a way I kind of understood it, which was another reason I was so surprised to see her there in D.C. It seemed times had changed.

I made my way through the building to the gym that also served as the rehabilitation area. I had been lucky to have spent barely any time there during the course of my four years so far with the Redskins, but other teammates of mine had not been so lucky. I did have an old injury, which is what led me to run into Maddy in the first place.

I might have to injure myself again just so I can keep running into her.

As I walked through the door, I caught sight of Maddy immediately. She was working on Marvin Griffin’s arm. Marvin was one of my best friends on the team, and I knew he wouldn’t mind if I encroached on his time with the doctor. Some of the other players were quite touchy about the fact that they were injured, but Marvin had been playing professional ball for over eight years. He had seen it all. He also was my unofficial mentor as well as best friend.

I saw Marvin’s face crack into a wide grin when he caught sight of me. “What are you doing slumming around here?”

Madeleine half turned and caught sight of me. I saw her eyes widen for a second. She had the professional demeanor firmly intact, no doubt about it. She was probably concerned that I was going to say something that would damage her credibility. But if she did think that, she didn’t know me at all. I crossed the room at a slow gait and offered my hand to Marvin.

“How’s the new doc treating you?” I asked.

“The shoulder feels better already,” Marvin said. He stretched his arm out wide as if to prove his point. “I just hope that they give me the clearance to play on Sunday.”

Madeleine checked her chart and gave a cluck of her tongue. “We’ll see what we can do, Marvin. But we don’t want to rush you back and have you re-injure yourself right away again, do we?”

Marvin slid off the table. “Nope. I’ve got a lot of years on these tires still. Gotta keep everything tuned up like a well-oiled machine. Thanks for everything. Now I’m off to go lift some weights.” He started laughing when he saw Maddy’s shocked expression. “I’m just pulling your leg, Doc. I know the drill.”

I laughed as well. That was just Marvin’s way. He was the team’s unofficial comedian, and he could always be counted on to crack a joke and lighten the mood when things got tense. He waved at me to join him as he started to leave, but I held up a hand. “I’ve got a quick question for the doc. I’ll see you on the field.”

I noted Marvin’s raised eyebrows. We both knew that there wasn’t anything physically wrong with me at the moment, otherwise I would have mentioned it to him. But I didn’t care if he decided to start speculating. I’d tell him the score later. Right now, I had eyes only for the woman who’d spent the night in my bed. As soon as Marvin was out of earshot, she grabbed my arm and maneuvered me into the corner.

“Hey, if you wanted to get me alone you just had to say so,” I said in a low joking tone.

Her eyes showed a faint sparkle, but she shook her head at me like a schoolmarm. ”Shane, I work here. Please don’t embarrass me like this.”

“You have to lighten up. And if you think that I’m going to listen to all my teammates talk about how fine your ass is and not tell them what’s up, you’ve got another thing coming,” I said.

Maddy ran a hand over her face. “My ass is my own property. We still have a lot to talk about when it comes to how things stand between us. “

“I’m all for talking or whatever. My place or yours?” I said as I waggled my eyebrows suggestively at her.

I didn’t expect it, but when the burst of laughter erupted out of her lungs, I couldn’t help but grin wider.

“You are impossible,” she said.

I tucked my hand under her elbow and moved closer to her ear. “Get used to it, babe.”

As I straightened, I heard a muffled gasp from across the room. We both swung our heads toward the noise. My mind immediately went blank. Standing there was Olivia Watson. Olivia was in charge of the team’s social media presence and also happened to be the daughter of the team manager. Over the years, she’d gotten the reputation of being the ‘team’s girl’ and not in a flattering way. I’d slept with her a handful of times over the past year after she had finally worn me down after an endless pursuit.

I saw the way her spine straightened and her upper lip stiffened as she read our body language. Olivia was beautiful, but that beauty covered a thin skin and venomous demeanor. That was the biggest reason why nothing else had ever developed between us, no matter how hard she had pushed me on the subject.

“Shit,” I said under my breath.

Madeleine looked at me in surprise. “Is that your girlfriend?” she asked in a stunned voice.

“No, definitely not,” I said very slowly and deliberately.

“Shane? I have something I’d like to discuss with you.” Olivia crossed her arms and stared at me.

Shit
, I thought again. It wasn’t as if I had any ties to Olivia officially, but it was more that Olivia thought she had ties—or hooks more accurately—into me. She had alluded to this several times in our last encounters, which is why I had kind of tried to give her the shake the last couple of times she had shown up at my condo unannounced. I was ashamed to admit that I was a guy with needs, and until Maddy had appeared in my life the day before, sometimes I needed a quick lay to scratch the itch. Olivia had been…convenient.
