“Do not lose sight of it. If it weren’t for this very characteristic, you and Alexander may have never found each other, as you vowed to do.”

Such wisdom hardly seemed possible to be contained in these small sentences. Emily wished she’d brought a pen and paper to write things down. She wanted to remember his words, always. She wanted to file them in the back of her mind and draw strength from them whenever needed.

There was a peace which came from speaking with him and neither of them wished to leave.

“What do you mean by vowing to find one another?” Alexander asked in a hush tone, hesitating to even speak up or interrupt.

“Ah, yes. I am called The Seer because that is exactly what I do. I see what has happened, what is taking place and what will come. Though my station is not the ultimate one and I remain here in Eden, I am allowed the privilege to not just see this measure of space and time, but others. You see, your journey did not begin with your birth, Emily; or your creation, Alexander. No, you were alive long before you took solid form. You had duties, obligations, adventures and growth before your physical reign on the earth. Each spirit is equally created and neither being a human, a Guardian, a Keeper, a Seer or a sparrow deems one essence more powerful or important than the other.”

“You were placed where you were according to your talents and abilities and what would be required of you. Your placement was the only thing which could have hindered your recognition of each other, and the fact that you knew one another before you came to earth. But…” he stopped walking and tucked his hands neatly behind him, “you followed the compass within, as well as the signs and happenings about you. You found one another just as you promised you would. And now that you have done this you need to fulfill the rest of your mission, no matter how great the sacrifice or the cost.”

“You speak of my vision, don’t you?” Alexander had caught the hint supplied in the last part of the sentence.

“I do and I know you come seeking a confirmation it is nothing but lies and deception. I am afraid I cannot offer that. I can only tell you much of what was given to you was in fact true.” He paused to let the heaviness of his words be absorbed by their hearts. “One of Evil’s greatest tools is to use truth which is only spotted with lies, making the lie much harder to perceive. Not everything in your vision was true down to its smallest detail, but the part you fear most is true.”

The Seer did not have to say the words exactly for them to know he had just confirmed Emily’s death along with many Guardians, including their leaders.

Her heart sank, feeling the weight of sadness pulling it deeper and deeper into the dark pit of her chest.

“Yes, many are going to die, many that you love.” The Seer pushed on, the sadness of the moment did not seem to reach him. Not because he lacked compassion, but rather because he possessed wisdom and hope.

“But death is not the end, it is only a jumping point and just as your births into this world did not separate you, neither will your deaths.” His smile was warm and comforting.

“Now, though this vision is true concerning the major events which transpire in it, I would like to offer the hope that therein lies a very important hinging point. I cannot disclose to you what part of your vision is false but I can tell you that there is one, very small, yet key factor which can be changed. Something was portrayed in your vision you should not believe. However, if I tell you, then it will disrupt the very nature of your course. It is for you to discover and in your discovery lies the hope.”

His words were a riddle and each of them yearned for some way to clearly remember everything so they could decipher it later.

“Our moment is complete here, but I want to leave you with this. Neither death nor time is an absolute; therefore, they are not to be feared. Find joy in your days together, but do not cower against the clock that counts them.” His smile was wide and loving and his blue eyes danced and glistened against the light that shone around them.

They both left silently, the way they came. The revelations given to them were more powerful than words and so none could be spoken.

Both Alexander and Emily descended the mountain in heavy contemplation, attempting to permanently burn The Seer’s words into their memories so it all could be discussed and interpreted later.

Emily was surprised with her reaction. Upon first hearing The Seer confirm Alexander’s vision she’d begun to droop in despair, but the words which followed offered comfort even when they did not necessarily offer any change.

Their silence was not the only thing following them down the mountain. There was now the invisible presence of a clock which ticked and chimed with each passing second, counting down the time left until the war began and Emily’s imminent death.

But they refused to acknowledge that part of their future path, as of yet. Instead they both pulled from the strength they had each gained by the revelations given from The Seer.

They would not count along with the clock.

They would not mourn each passing moment, and they would not fear time.
