krater

A large Greek pottery vessel for mixing wine. Usually with a low footring base and a pair of handles, but shapes otherwise vary, the volute krater, for example, having handles mounted on the shoulder and projecting above the height of the rim.
kremlin
[MC].
The fortified citadel of medieval Russian and Slav towns. The best known is the Moscow Kremlin which dates to the 14th century

. Within it lies a range of palaces and cathedrals, and state buildings in a range of architectural styles spanning the 14th to the 18th centuries. More modern buildings were added in Soviet times to house the country's administration.

American anthropologist and archaeologist who advocated the efficiency of seriation as a means of understanding artefact sequences. He formally defined the idea of the
HORIZON STYLE
. He carried out fieldwork on Californian shell mounds and in Peru he excavated sites at Cahuachi and Estaqueria in the Nasca region.

A term used in eastern Europe, of Russian derivation, to refer to a flint scatter of Palaeolithic or Mesolithic date which represents the remains of an open settlement site.
Kuban Culture
[CP].
Copper Age communities of the north Caucasus region, especially the Kuban Valley of western Caucasia. Burials were made under
KURGANS
and were generally rather rich. Battle-axes are common, and there are metal Pontic hammerhead pins.
k'uei
[Ar].
Bronze handled bowl designed to contain food. Common in the Zhou Dynasty of China.
