“Is that when you started playing guitar?” Anna asked.

“Around that time.  My mother had a few waitressing jobs.  She’d go from place to place to place, and even then, we didn’t have enough.  I met a kid whose parents let me stay over when my mother worked at night.  He had a guitar but never played.  He hated the guitar.  So I would mess around.  I started learning more, listening to more music, and finally his father told me to take the damn thing home because it made too much noise.

“When I met Johnnie and Danny, they wanted a band so I lied and said I was a drummer.  I told them I didn’t have a kit though and they bought it.  So Johnnie arranged to borrow drums and when we started to play, I couldn’t do a thing on the drums.  He was so pissed at me, I thought he was going to punch me in the face.  He and Danny left to go talk and I started playing Danny’s guitar.  Within a few seconds they were both staring at me play... and that’s how I got my first and only
real
job...”

Davey took a breath, feeling the tension in his throat.  He hadn’t choked up in a long time.  Thinking about his father, his mother, and the early days of Chasing Cross, was just a beautiful thing.  Beauty from tragedy, even though the tragedy still hurt.

“That’s my story,” Davey said.

“How does it all connect then?”

“What do you mean?”

“Well... there’s a connection between your story and what’s going on with the baby...”

Davey closed his eyes again.  He never met a woman like Anna, who could look so innocent and still cut into him.  She cut with kindness though.  Davey knew he wanted to come to this place to get it all out.  To tell everything.

“Part of me believes I can right the past.”  It felt strange admitting it.  Hearing it out loud sounded silly.

“You can’t go back,” Anna said.

“But I can prevent the future from matching.  What if that baby grows up and wonders who his father is?  What if Donald becomes a smart boy and a tough man but walks around carrying some kind of regret that he didn’t have both parents?”

“You’re doing the right thing, Davey,” Anna said.  “You just have to wait and see what happens.”

“What if I don’t want to know... because the truth will change me.  Either way.”

Davey saw Anna hesitate for a second and then finally reach for him.  She touched his hand with the softest touch, yet it had meaning.  It helped.  It soothed Davey.

“All you can do is follow your heart,” Anna said.  “It’s not always easy, and face it, it doesn’t always guarantee we won’t get hurt... but that’s life.”

“Again, the words you come up with,” Davey said.  “I’m sending you to Johnnie.”

“I’d rather be with you,” Anna said and smiled.

“Come to Colorado with me.”

“What?”

“Tomorrow.  Let’s go to Colorado.  You and me.  We’ll fly out first thing in the morning.”

“Davey... I can’t... my job...”

“I’ll take care of everything,” Davey said.  “I’m serious.  Just come with me for a few days.  I’ll have to be back here soon anyway, to deal with Cassy and Donald.  I’m supposed to write with Danny too but I’ll push it back.  I want to show you my house.  My little town where I hide between tours.”

“Is that where you’d be right now?” Anna asked.

Davey nodded.  “Yeah.  Come on.  Please.  I’ll beg you right now.”

“I wouldn’t mind seeing that.”

Davey lowered his eyes.  “Or you can let me convince you back at the hotel.  We’re close, you know.”

“I know.  I already went to the hotel.”

“Yeah, but now we can...”

“I’ll go to Colorado if we wait until then,” Anna said.

“You’re stringing me along here,” Davey smirked.  “You’re building this up quite a bit.”

Davey wasn’t lying when he said that.  He never had to hold back before, for fear of going too far too fast.  He had actual feelings for Anna.  He didn’t want to
fuck
her, he wanted to explore her.  He wanted to touch her body.  Feel her.  Hold her.
Love her
.

“Tell you what,” Davey said, “I’m going to go pay and get a box for the leftovers here.  You just think long and hard about what you proposed.  If you can wait for Colorado, so can I.”  Davey slid out of the booth and looked down at Anna.  He grabbed her wrist and smiled.  “But I won’t make it easy for you to resist me.”

Davey thought he had Anna.

She smiled and replied, “Who ever said I would resist you?”

Anna stepped back into the hotel room where it sort of all began and looked at the couch, noticing the missing guitar.  She still couldn’t believe the guitar was in the backseat of Davey’s car and that he had given it to her.  Those thoughts should have been the last thing on her mind because before the door could close, Davey had his hands on her waist and his chin touching her head.

“Quick, aren’t we?” Anna asked.

“No.  You’re just blocking the way.”

Davey pushed, forcing Anna to walk.  He then released her and moved towards the kitchen area.

She felt her body melting, hating Davey for being such a tease.

“Why Colorado?” Anna asked.

“Why?  I don’t know why.  I just sort of picked an area.”

“You picked an area?”

“Yeah.  I wanted to be away from everything.  But I didn’t want to be in the middle of nowhere either.  It’s a nice little town.  Good skiing there, if you ski.  I’m lucky enough that when I moved there, the people got to know me for me.  I can walk around as Davey.”

“It’s not about the band?”

“Not at all.”

Davey had two beer bottles in his hand and he put them on the counter.  Anna walked to the counter, taking notice that Davey didn’t open them.  She leaned over the counter, unable to control herself or resist what she wanted.  Davey had his hands flat on counter and tried to look cool.  Anna had to admit he did look cool - killer sexy - but she could see it all deep in his eyes.

Everything they had talked about lingered on the surface.

She felt connected to Davey in such an amazing way.

“So you’re just a regular guy,” Anna said.  “At the end of it all, huh?”

“For the most part,” Davey said.  “I bleed the same color blood as you.  I feel pain.  I feel happiness.  I feel passion...”

Anna bit her lip for a second.  Davey was certainly winning this game between them.  Her breasts felt very tender and a soft, warm feeling rolled through her body, stopping between her legs.  Her body reacted as she knew it would but she figured by then she’d be naked with Davey’s body over her.  If Davey saw or touched...

“You look like you’re thinking,” Davey said.

“Colorado?”

“What about it?”

“How long is the flight?”

“Better question is... how long is this night going to feel?”

Anna exhaled, catching herself slightly moaning.

Davey pushed the beer bottles out of the way and walked around the counter.  He grabbed Anna by the wrist and pulled her.  As she stumbled into Davey’s strong arms, Anna felt her moist sex throbbing.  Her knees buckled for a second and Davey caught her.

“Miss a step?” Davey asked.

“Something like that,” Anna said.

She looked up at Davey, needing to taste his lips again.

“Colorado?” she asked again.

“It’s your rule,” Davey whispered.

“Don’t rockstars break all the rules?”

Davey smiled.  “Yeah, we do.”

His hands were then at her ass, cupping her and lifting her into the air, face to face with him.  Anna stared deep into Davey’s eyes for all of two seconds before they kissed at the exact same time.  When Davey’s lips touched Anna’s she knew it was all going to come crashing down.  And that meant in the best way possible.

Wanting to see how far she could push Davey, Anna put her hands into Davey’s hair, her fingers clutching and twisting, pushing on Davey’s head to bring herself up more.

Their tongues came together, touching then each taking their turn exploring the others’ mouth.  Anna groaned and felt everywhere throbbing.  Her hips rocked, wanting to feel Davey, wanting to know why he hadn’t taken her to the bedroom yet.

Davey remained standing, his strong arms holding Anna’s smaller frame.  His right arm moved up to Anna’s lower back and both arms were around her tight.  It gave Anna an overwhelming feeling of strength and protection, something she couldn’t remember feeling in such a long time.  Even alone, working and trying to pay her bills, she still needed to feel something more.  Something greater.  Something beyond her own thoughts.

Davey gave that to her.

Anna pulled at Davey’s hair, forcing their kiss to stop.  Their foreheads touched, the tips of their noses teasing.  Anna took deep breaths, noticing how calm Davey appeared to be.

“What are you doing?” Anna whispered.

“What do you mean?” Davey asked, his tone full of intention.

“You’re destroying me...”

“Sweetheart, you don’t know what destroyed is.”

Davey’s mouth came against Anna’s again.  This time he was on the move, walking Anna to the bedroom.  With each step Davey took, Anna’s heart raced faster and her body got hotter.  She didn’t want to think about the last time a man touched her bare body but with the list at just one person in too many years, it made her tingle to know that Davey wasn’t just sober but also in need of caring for her.

Davey moved his attention from Anna’s mouth down to her neck.  The tip of his tongue slid like a dull razor but had an effect that made Anna’s toes curl.  When he gently placed her on the bed, she made sure to grab Davey’s arms, to feel his muscles flexing.  She ran her fingers up along his shirt to his face and held his face with both hands.  There they were in a passionate silence, breathing, staring, their backgrounds hidden but still in plain sight.

But what happened yesterday and last year didn’t matter.  Davey put his hands to the bed and picked up where he left off.  He kissed to Anna’s ear, his teeth touching her earlobe for a second, he kissed her ear, and whispered, “Beautiful.”

It left Anna in such a wild state, she swore she was going to finished before anything really began.  She had a firm grip on Davey’s shoulders but then reached down for the bottom of his shirt.  Enough was enough in her eyes, she couldn’t stand not to see Davey’s body.  The other night she caught him against the dim light of the room.  Tonight, the lights were turned on... and so was Anna.  She had an urge racing through her veins like she never felt before.  Between her legs, the inferno of lust Davey had set ablaze wouldn’t settle for anything less than what she wanted.

Gripping the bottom of Davey’s shirt, Anna pulled, not going to accept an answer other than Davey standing, which he did a few seconds later.  Anna sat up on the bed and lifted his shirt, balancing so she could guide it up and over his head.  The moment Davey’s hands were out of his shirt, he treated Anna to the same care.  He had her shirt moving before she could think about it.  Up and over her head, then to the floor, landing in a messy heap not to far from Davey’s.

As she looked at the shirts on the floor, she felt Davey’s fingertips touch her bare shoulders, moving down then back up, over to her bra strap.  He pulled the straps at the same time, working them a few inches towards the curve of her shoulders.  Anna watched as Davey kissed her left shoulder first, where the bra had just been.  He did the same on the other shoulder as his hands gripped her at her ribs, below her breasts.  The move was torturous, leaving Anna’s breasts desperate to be touched and held.  Her nipples were throbbing inside her bra, wanting to feel Davey’s mouth and tongue.

All that would have to wait because when Davey stood back up, Anna took her opportunity to finally savor Davey’s toned body.  She kissed just below his neck, feeling him as he swallowed.  He let out a heavy breath, the warm air rushing her hair and face as he looked down at Anna as she kissed him again, and again, moving down an inch each time.  She touched his belt with her hands, nervous at first, but when Davey squeezed at her ribs, reminding her that his hands were teasing her, she got over her nerves and opened his belt.  Next came Davey’s pants and as Anna kissed down a few more times, he wasn’t able to touch her any longer.  She then sat on the bed, her hands pushing at the top of Davey’s jeans.  They slid down his legs, and she was looking directly at the impressive bulge in his boxers.  She licked at his stomach, just one more time, feeling the gentle ripples of his abs.

“Anna,” Davey said.

Anna looked at him.

“I’ll never hurt you,” he said.  “I’ll never leave you with less than you have right now.  And I’ll make sure you always have more than what you have right now.”

Anna smiled and nodded.  She slid her hand to Davey’s bulge, gripping him over his boxers.  Her body flooded, her sex aching, her panties collecting the moisture, her toes curling again.

“More than this?” Anna asked, teasing as she moved her hand on Davey.

Davey groaned and pushed forward, taking back control.  He was on top of Anna, staring at her.  He had his right elbow on the bed, allowing his right hand to touch Anna’s hair.  His fingers played with her curls while his eyes commanded her.  His left hand drew a straight line down her side to her pants.
