They were looking at each other, eyes
sparkling as Mitch’s groan mingled with Madeline's. Like a shot,
they hurried down to the black top road.

We’ll take a
walk…”

Max started chuckling low.

Jason’s rumble could not be held in,
and the sound carried before he could stop it.

It reached the couple on the
porch.

Madeline jumped up, off Mitch, fast,
and stumbled back into the swing. “They’re back. Oh—shit.” She was
dazed.

Mitch’s thighs were shaking.

She staggered to her feet. “I’d better
go freshen up.” Her voice was thick, slurred. She fled into the
house.

Mitch got up slower than Madeline.
Standing a moment, holding to the banister. The night was fair, and
Mitch could see the two men in the road. He tried to calm the
pounding of his heart. He kept blinking to clear his
head.

He reached down into the ammo box,
where Coy hid his cigarettes. He lit one, walked down to about the
second slab step, and sat down. Legs wide and elbows on his thighs,
he took several long drawls…then he gave a soft whistle.

Max and Jason evidently heard it, they
turned and started walking back, coming up the steps hesitantly.
When they reached him, they stood a moment, watching him take a
drag. Mitch’s hand was shaking, he was sure his was face was taut,
and his eyes unfocused.

Ah, we went to Jason’s, and
got some guitars. We could go back—if you want.”

Mitch looked at Max whose eyes were
obviously amused, at Jason, who was outright smirking. He took a
quick drag and tensely blew out the smoke. “If you think she’ll
give me any now, you’re wrong.”

They chuckled loud, obviously amused at
his disgruntled tone.

Hey, we were clear down in
the road.”

Mitch looked at Jason, biting out,
“She’s going to be embarrassed as hell, when she comes out of the
house.”

Jason looked at Max. “We could be
sitting on the porch, playing music.”

They went down to get the guitars, he
could hear their laughter.

Little prick,” Mitch
muttered, hearing Jason say he looked like a freshman with his
first boner.

When they got to the porch, Mitch
waited until they were seated, facing each other, playing guitar.
Any other time, he’d be fascinated by the fact Max could play. He
would have sat and listened. He warned quietly, “You say anything
teasing to Madeline, and I’ll whup both your asses. Jason, wipe
that grin off your face.”

Mitch took a couple of breaths and went
in to check on her.

He could see soda opened and drank from
one on the table in the bright kitchen. He took a few drinks,
headed toward the bathroom.

Madeline?”

At the doorway of his bedroom, his arm
was grabbed, and he was yanked inside.

This is crazy.” Madeline
whispered, locking the door, looking at him, backing toward the
bed. “We…I... We shouldn’t but…” She yanked off her shirt and
started undoing her bra.

Her lovely breasts were exposed,
hard-tipped and out-thrust.

Mitch started coming forward as she
backed up, yanking his shirt off, and going for his
breeches.

We’ve got to get outside,”
Madeline panted, undoing her skirt, kicking it off with her
sandals.

Eyeing her sexy body, the nest of
russet curls between creamy thighs, and those great legs. Up her
waist and ribs, over each breast, Mitch advanced until they were
leg to leg at the side of the bed. He grabbed her, started kissing
her, and did it by seizing a handful of lush ass with one hand, a
palm full of breast with the other.

Mitch moaned like a dying
man.

Madeline muttered, there wasn’t
time.

He pushed her back, landing half on the
bed and covering her mouth with scalding kisses.

Hands were everywhere; rapid breathing
filled the room. Her legs parted under his.

Mitch paused. Their eyes held one
second, before he went in hard, thrust all the way.

Eyes closed. Groans escaped, before
they were kissing again. He began flexing his hips, fervently, in
and out, in a hurry. His blood was pumping so hard his heart was
beating like a running stallion. His skin nearly crawling off from
the pleasure of it, his whole body feeling it.

Madeline arched, squeezed his upper
arms, and yanked her lips away, turning her head to the side as he
thrust faster and faster.

The mattress slid, the springs groaned,
but his mouth was against her cheek. He muttered something about
the heat, the silk. The way she was milking him was killing him.
How he wanted it all. Her legs shifted high.

Fire shot through him. He came hard and
explosively, and so strong, he was gasping for air.

They slid to the floor; Madeline lay
there panting. “You've got to get back out there.”

I will.” He was winded,
looking at her in amazement. That was twice she had shocked the
hell out of him.

Go on to the
bathroom.”

No, you get up
first.”

Mitch blinked at her.

My ass looks like cottage
cheese.”

He fell back onto the floor, laughing
his head off.

Madeline crawled over and clamped her
hand over his mouth, shushing him. “Mitch—”

Muffled behind her hand he asked,
“Cottage cheese?”

She bit her lip and nodded. “Or a sea
sponge.”

Eyes sparkling with suppressed
laughter, he whispered, “Let’s see.” Sitting up and hearing her
gasp, Mitch hauled her across his thighs and grabbed her
butt.

Umm…” He leaned down and
began biting it, laving it, nipping at the sweet mounds. ”It’s in
very good shape, plump, soft, ripe.”

Mitch!” She was trying to
reach back, push his head away.

Not there, maybe right
here.” He scraped his teeth over a spot, licked another, and
suckled in several places.

Dammit, Mitch!” She sounded
mortified.

When he slid his hand between her legs
started kneading her, he found her wet, hot, aroused.

Mitch, Mitch. We...This is
not….”

Mitch found the spot, high between the
lips, and rubbed at the same time his mouth did its thing. He was
enjoying it. He touched inside, she was hot, soft, and her scent
was heady,

He kept up a steady rhythm, did
explicit things. He was determined, and said so, to give her enough
of what she needed to come.

Madeline came, pressing against his
touch, with her teeth biting into her fist trying to muffle it
while the waves radiated through her. She rolled to her back when
he moved his hand, her legs still over his thighs. Eyes glittering,
she husked, “Please, go out there, before they think we’ve been
doing something.”

She was so damn sweet, so funny, and
embarrassed. Mitch got up, winked at her, and headed for his
bathroom.

She hoped to her feet gathering her
scattered clothing.

It don't, you know,” he
said from the bathroom.

Dammit, don't look.” She
grit, flying out the door, and across to the other, his laughter
behind her.

Sometime later Madeline came out on the
porch, smelling of soap and lotion. Bringing a mug of coffee for
all of them. Jason and Max were playing guitar. She took her mug
and sat beside Mitch in the swing.

Mitch casually laid his hand on the
swing back, able to touch her back with his fingers.

The fact that she was acting blasé
amused him. She had no idea the guys had caught them the first
time. Thank God, he thought, sipping from the mug. Still, it had
been too hurried, too rushed. Damned hilarious, when he thought of
it now. Hell, he was still reeling from the fact she’d dragged him
in there, and given him some.

They play well together,”
she said calmly.

He’s good, amazing.” He
took a drink from his mug.

That tune ended and both men looked at
Mitch, their gazes touched Madeline, skittered away. They looked at
each other, and started laughing, arising and putting the guitars
away.

It’s been a nice day,” Max
shook Jason’s hand

Interesting,” Jason said
and they laughed again.

Madeline and he were standing. She
looked between the two young men. “What’s so funny?”

Nothing,” Mitch cut in,
shaking Max’s hand, winking and grinning at him. “Y'all drive
careful.”

Madeline was still frowning when she
said her good-byes and got in her car. She followed Max home, and
he was in the house by the time she got in.

I’m beat.” He yawned and
headed for the bedroom.

It looked like you and
Jason hit it off.”

He paused by the bedroom door.
“Yep.”

She paused on the way to hers. “What?”
She saw something in his eyes and said, “Hey, we wasn’t doing
anything, it’s too soon for…”

Goodnight.” He smiled and
stepped in, closing the door.

She stood there looking at it. No, no,
they couldn’t have seen anything or heard it. By the time they’d
come up the steps, she had been in the house, and when her and
Mitch…when they did it, those two were playing music.

Sighing, she rolled her eyes and went
to get clean jammies and take a shower. Later, she lay in bed,
thought of the hurried and fumbling lovemaking, and groaned at her
own lack of control. But hell, no way could she have waited, it was
bound to happen sooner or later, might as well have gotten it over
with. Lord, if she thought of it in the light of day, she would be
mortified. She had all but attacked the man. She had
acted…desperate.

Truth be known, she was only sorry it
had been over so fast.

Madeline went into work on Monday; Max
was going to say his good-byes to Mitch and everyone. He told her
he’d come back soon. They were going to have dinner together before
he left that evening.

She got back in the routine after
answering many questions about Brook. Aunt Gee Gee was supposed to
call before they were leaving the country. Everyone seemed worried
she’d freak having an empty house, particularly when Max left
too.

Rafael said during their break, “Have
you heard the gossip?”

What?”

That all of Tony
Singleton’s things are missing from the studio. Apparently he’d
packed them up and shipped them off before the trip.”

I can’t imagine what a man
like him thinks. What did he plan to do with Jenna? Obviously he
used her and put her in debt, but beating her up?”

Who knows? I heard they
think he’s gone north.”

Poor Jenna.”

You don't think he’d be
stupid enough to come back around do you?”

God, I hope not, but he’s
got all he wanted hasn’t he, why would he?”

Maybe cause of the
warrant.”

Don’t even think
that.”

He shrugged and they got back to work,
but that evening before she got off, she called Ruby.

Have you talked to
Jenna?”

Yes, she asked me if she
could rent the cottage. I told her, yes, but I didn’t want Karla
here causing trouble.”

What did she
say?”

She said Karla has moved in
with a friend, the Coburn's sent a message saying if there was a
kid, Coy would support it, but they weren’t expecting him to marry
her.”

That’s what Mitch
said.”

Well, Jenna thinks if Karla
can’t get money from them, she might leave town.”

What a mess.”

Yes, Karla does nothing but
scream and cut a fit every time Jenna tries to talk to
her.”

She told her she’d get back in touch.
She was seeing Max off that evening. “Things went well between him
and the Coburn's. He and Mitch hit it off too.”

That’s good. Hey, if you
get to where you can’t stand the house after he’s gone, call me,
okay?”

Sure, I will.”

Madeline hung up and headed home. She
got there before Max, and cleaned up for dinner.

When he came in he said, “I’m packed
up. I wish I could stay longer this time, but I left things
hanging. I’ve got a busy summer.”

Just keep in
touch.”

They went to an upscale restaurant and
Max went all out with the menu. They talked, laughed, and enjoyed
each other’s company, ended the evening reluctantly.

Madeline did not hide her tears when he
left; in fact, she hugged him a long time, and cried on his
shoulder. She eventually had to let him leave, and she went up on
the porch to keep from detaining him. Yet when the car pulled out
and its shape could no longer be seen on the road, she sat down and
bawled.
