It takes every last ounce of my willpower to not reach down and run my fingers between her legs to see just how soaking wet she is. I can smell the desire wafting off of her. There’s no way she can hide something as powerful as that.

“You’re going to make me blow my load right here in my boxers,” I growl.

And it’s the truth. I’m wound up so tightly that a stiff breeze could probably get the job done at this point.

“Aw, is it that bad?”

Suddenly, her hand reaches back and she runs her nails up the side of my leg. She doesn’t stop until she’s cupping my ass. She pulls me even tighter against her own ass, using her asscheeks to flatten my bulging cock between us. The strain is almost too much for me to handle.

I jerk away from her, forcing distance between us.

“What the fuck are you doing?” I demand, frustration growing in my voice. “That’s too far. There’s only so much I can handle.”

Sofie rolls onto her back, her eyes wide and innocent as she looks over at me.

“Isn’t that what you’ve been wanting?” she asks.

My brow pulls down, confused by her response.

“What kind of game are you playing?”

“It’s not a game. I just thought that… well, you’ve been so good with me, despite all of my teasing… I just thought that maybe you deserve a little something extra, is all.”

My eyes narrow as I search her expression for some clue as to what she’s up to. My cock lurches at the mere hope for
something extra
. But the rest of me is wary.

“Is this another one of your tests?” I ask, the words coming out harshly. “This is that final test you were talking about, isn’t it? You just want to see if I’ll cave…”

She shakes her head.

“It’s not a test this time.” She scoots in a little closer and nuzzles her nose against my hard chest. “I admit it… I was playing some games before, just to see how dedicated you really were. But not this time. I have my own needs too, you know…”

Without any warning she slides her hand along my chest and down my stomach until her fingertips come to a stop at the top of my boxers. My hard cock gives another lurch. It’s standing fully erect and ready for her to take it in her hand—and anywhere else she might want it.

I push her hand away before she’s able to slide it any lower.

“What’s gotten into you tonight?” I ask, giving her a worried look. “You’re not acting like yourself.”

Her eyes widen in surprise for an instant before annoyance flashes on her face.

Nothing
has gotten into me. Is it so bad that I want to be close to you?”

Her overreaction catches me off guard. Something doesn’t add up. A nagging sensation in my gut warns me that something else is going on. Why would she put me through all of the torture over the last couple of weeks only to give in when there’s so little time to go?

“We can’t do it like this,” I say.

“What do you mean?”

I press myself into a seated position against the headboard.

“We’ve come so far… I want to see it through to the end. The next time I enter you should be more special than it’s ever been before. It will be a new beginning for the both of us.”

The annoyed look in her eyes disappears, replaced by something more vulnerable.

“You really mean that?” she asks.

I don’t even hesitate before jerking my head in a nod. The words that come out of my mouth almost don’t even sound like me.

“I love you Sofie Bennett. I love you now more than I’ve ever loved anything else in this world. I made you a promise and I’m not going to let anything stop me from keeping it… Even you.”

There’s a desperate look in her eyes as she studies me for a moment.

“You really haven’t been with anyone else these last few weeks?”

“I can’t even
think
about anyone else.”

She studies me for a while longer. I get the feeling that there’s something she wants to say, but for some reason she’s holding it back. Is she having second thoughts about this whole thing? Maybe she never really expected me to live up to my end of the bargain?

“What are you thinking about right now?” I press.

She shakes her head and brushes hair out of her face, dismissively.

“It’s nothing… It’s just… this is nice. I never expected to be this close to you again.”

I sink lower onto the bed, wrapping my arm around her and pulling her tight to my chest.

“Well, you’d better get ready. Soon you’re going to be a whole lot closer.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll be ready.”

She fixes me with a smile so seductive that my cock gives another wild jerk. But it’s going to have to wait a while longer before it gets any attention. Just knowing that I could be fucking Sofie right now, if I wanted to, is going to have to be enough to hold it over.

Soon my cock will get the dessert it’s been waiting for. And it will be the sweetest thing it’s ever tasted.

Chapter 18

Sofie

To celebrate the end of what has become our courtship, Calvin is taking me out to dinner at a fancy restaurant. I looked the place up online after he told me about it and I was surprised by its elegance. He’s pulling out all of the stops to make sure that we have a special start to our new life together. It would be nearly impossible for me not to fall in love with him all over again.

Not that I ever fell out of love with him in the first place. Not really…

But spending time with Calvin in New York City has been way different than when we were in Charleston. Walking into his condo the other night had marked the first time it had really occurred to me that Calvin is
way
out of my league.

I led a quaint life back home. A simple life. Running off to Europe after I caught Calvin that first time had been the most daring and bold thing I’d ever done. And moving to New York City after finishing school had been a close second. Life in Manhattan is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before—and Calvin epitomizes all of it.

I mean, he’s gorgeous, rich, successful, charming, smart… he’s everything. He can have any woman that he wants. And for some reason he’s choosing
me
. It’s not that I don’t think I’m worth it, but I’m realistic. I’m not a supermodel. I don’t have long legs and a perfect ass. I don’t have perfect blonde hair and huge boobs. I don’t even come with a trust fund or a large inheritance or anything like that either.

I’m just me.

But he seems okay with it.

Despite everything that happened in the past, it really feels like we’re on a new level. I basically offered myself to him on a platter the other night, and even after all of the tormenting I’ve put him through he
still
turned me down. No, he didn’t just turn me down. He handled it in the most perfect way ever… He showed me that he really has become a new man. The old Calvin wouldn’t have hesitated to take me right there in his soft bed. But the new Calvin wants to do it right.

It really hadn’t been a test. Maybe I was feeling guilty after everything that went on with Wade. It’s not like I did anything wrong, technically. It’s not like I invited him over to stay the night… he just kind of showed up. What was I supposed to do?

I give myself one final look in the mirror. I’m ready as I’ll ever be, but I’m so nervous for tonight that I feel like I’m about to burst out of my own skin. I don’t know how he does it, but he makes me so happy, and I just hope that I can do the same for him. Tonight will be the start of something new and the continuation of something old at the same time. Tonight will be the night I’ve been secretly wishing for ever since I first ran out on Calvin—the night that we’re finally together again.

And I want it to be perfect.

Chapter 19

Sofie

“Do you bring all of your dates to fancy places like this?” I ask, after Calvin and I are seated at what the maitre’d assured us is the best seat in the house.

“Only when I’m trying to get in their pants,” he responds, giving me that cocky grin of his.

Normally a comment like this would bother me because the last thing I want to think about is Calvin getting into another girl’s pants. But this time it doesn’t. It’s a great example of just how much stronger our relationship has grown over the last few weeks.

I give him a playful smile.

“I’m honored to be one of the privileged ones! I’m sure there’s a line ready to take my place if things don’t work out.”

He lets out a soft laugh and leans in close.

“I’ve never brought anyone here.” His blue eyes sparkle and radiate a magical energy. “Tonight is all about the two of us, and this is where we start our new life together.”

The sincerity in his tone causes my breath to hitch in the back of my throat. He’s taking tonight every bit as seriously as I am, and as usual, he’s saying all of the right things.

He gives me a concerned look.

“Are you okay? Your face just flushed…”

“It’s nothing,” I say, quickly, giving a shake of my head.

“Did I say something wrong?”

“Not at all.” I fix him with a smile, trying to put that moment behind us. “So, what else do you have in mind for tonight?”

Calvin’s lips widen and he wriggles his finger to motion me closer. I lean across the table meeting him halfway. When he whispers in my ear, his voice is so low and quiet that I can barely hear him.

“I’m going to take you back to my place and fuck you like I’ve never fucked you before.” My heart races and I bite my lip without even realizing I’m doing it. “We’re going to start in the cab on the way there. I’m going to open you up and eat your pussy for dessert. And when we finally get there, I’m going to do it all over again, until you’re screaming my name over and over. And, after that…” He licks his lips, slowly. The heat coming off of him is almost too much for me to handle. “After that is when the real fun begins…”

A flood is rushing through me. I’m so wet that I’m worried I’ll leave a spot on the back of the new, blue dress I bought specially for tonight. Sitting through dinner doesn’t sound like a good idea, anymore. I don’t know if I can wait that long to get Calvin back to his place so we can start doing all the things I’ve been fantasizing about.

“Maybe we should skip dinner?” I offer, trying not to sound too overeager.

Calvin’s lips spread into a pleased smile.

“Tsk, tsk,” he chides. “Part of the fun is waiting for it…”

“Waiting even longer doesn’t sound like much fun.”

His smile turns even more devious.

“Let’s just call it payback for the last few weeks, then.”

I groan and he lets another soft laugh slip out. Before we pull away from each other, he hooks his finger under my chin and lifts it until we’re looking each other squarely in the face.

“You mean the world to me,” he says. “I don’t think I’ve told you that, today.”

Ugh! Seriously!

“I know you doubted me along the way,” he continues, “but I’m glad we’re finally moving past it.”

“Me too,” I say, weakly.

His radiant blue eyes are like an ocean that I want to fall into. He fixes me with a look that makes me feel naked and vulnerable. There’s no hiding from that look. And when I’m almost at the point that I can’t take it anymore, he falls forward just far enough to press his lips into mine.

The kiss starts soft and tender, but quickly intensifies. My heart races faster and faster. Our tongues slide along each other, and then he suckles on my bottom lip. My lips are buzzing so much that I barely even notice when he finally pulls away.

The world gets all fuzzy and out of focus. Can this really be my life? Can this really be happening?

But the bliss doesn’t last for long. The world seems intent on trying to ruin anything good that happens to me…

I’m still reeling from one of the best kisses of my life when a familiar voice crashes through the love-drunk fog and snaps me back to reality.

“Well, if it isn’t two of my favorite people…”

Chapter 20

Sofie

Calvin and I both turn our heads sharply to none other than Wade Foster, standing only a few feet away. I’m so startled by his sudden appearance that it takes me a moment to notice the girl attached to his arm. She looks familiar, but it takes me a moment to place her.

Rebecca.

She’s the European girl I first saw with Wade at the conference we went to when I first met him. He’d said that she was just a friend, but the comfortable way she’s clinging to his arm right now tells me that something has changed.

She studies me for a second, and then her stare turns ice cold as she finally recognizes me. A shiver runs down my spine.

What the hell is her problem?

If Calvin is as surprised by the sudden interruption as I am, he doesn’t show it.

“Wade Foster,” he says, confidently. He rises out of his chair and extends his hand even as he turns his charming smile to Rebecca. “And a lovely date, too…”

Wade grips his hand and flashes him an equally confident smile.

“I guess the city really is as small as everyone says,” he returns. Wade introduces Calvin to Rebecca and they exchange pleasantries. Wade flashes me a quick glance, and then to Calvin says, “But, hey, since I’ve got you here… there’s something I’ve been meaning to talk to you about.”

Calvin’s face darkens.

“We’re kind of in the middle of something here,” he says, gesturing to me.

Wade’s sinister smile widens.

“It’s important… It will only take a minute.”

Calvin’s face remains calm and passive, but I know him well enough to see the anger building just beneath the surface. He doesn’t respond for a long moment, but then he jerks his head in a quick nod.

“Fine,” he says. “But it will have to be quick.”

He flashes me an apologetic glance. I’m too panicked to manage anything more than a blank stare.

“The quickest,” Wade assures him. He pats Rebecca on the hand. “Perhaps you ladies would enjoy a drink? Have the waiter put it on my tab…”

They head off toward the bar at the front of the restaurant. My stomach does flips on itself as every muscle in my body tenses.
