Meg
looked at her and grabbed the phone.

Hello,”
she said.

Meg?
What are you doing on Julie’s phone?” he asked.

I
had to come get her from work,” Meg said.

Get
her from work? Why?” Steven asked. Meg looked at Angela and
gave her the ‘could you stay with her look’ before she
walked out of the living room. “Meg? You still there?”
Steven asked.

Yeah,
I’m still here. What the hell is going on Steven? Your wife’s
a mess,” she said as she walked out of the house.

Why?
What do you mean a mess?” he asked.

She
was at work showing a house in the burbs…” Meg started
before Steven interrupted her.

What
do you mean the burbs? Where is that?” he asked.

Meg
rolled her eyes.

The
suburbs,” Meg said. She could already almost see the weird face
Steven was making at her. “She just…I don’t know
what happened but when I got here she was crying on her client’s
shoulder.”

Damn
it. Text me the address. I’ll be right there,” Steven
said.

No.
I’ll drive her home,” Meg said. “You can meet us
there.”

Fine.
I’ll just get us some food and meet you guys there.”

Steven
wait,” Meg said quickly before he hung up. “What’s
going on? What happened?” she asked.

I’d
rather if she told you herself Meg.”

Steven
please. I need to know what I can do or what not to say. Help me out
for God’s sake,” she said. She heard him sigh loudly.

We
went to the doctor yesterday and she found out that she might not be
able to have kids.”

What?”
Meg said in a loud whisper.

Yeah,”
Steven said.

Why
the hell was she at work?”

You
know Juelz. She probably thought that working was the only way to get
her mind off everything,” he said.

Meg
sighed. “Yeah. That must be rough.”

I
know,” Steven said.

Meg
ran her fingers through her hair and sighed. “I’ll get
her home. See you there?”

Sure.”
Steven hung up and Meg took a long minute before she walked back into
the house. She walked to where Julie and Angela were and sat next to
her best friend.

I’ll
take her home. Thanks for staying with her,” she said to Angela
who nodded and gave a reassuring smile to Julie.

Take
your time. I am in no hurry to close,” she said. Julie looked
up at her and nodded. She opened her mouth to speak but another tear
rolled down her cheek. Angela sat down next to her and gave her a
hug. “Just remember that it gets better,” she said. Julie
looked at her and mouthed ‘thank you’ before Angela
walked out.

So,
why didn’t you call me?” Meg asked as she sat down next
to Julie. “Yes, Steven just told me and don’t bite his
head off. I made him tell me,” she said looking at her best
friend’s puffy face.

Julie
shook her head and shrugged.

It
was not exactly something I wanted to talk about. Besides, I am still
getting used to it myself,” she said.

Meg
looked at her and frowned. “What happened?”

Julie
took a long deep breath and shrugged. “Remember the accident I
had in college?”

The
one when you guys were supposed to go to Vegas? Yeah, I remember,”
Meg said.

Well,
apparently the doctors should have told me that the shards of glass
embedded in my tummy when I flew through the windshield actually
scarred my womb,” Julie said. “A lot.”

Okay.
How bad is the situation?” Meg asked.

My
womb is too weak to carry a pregnancy. If I did get pregnant I would
probably have to be in bed from conception to delivery or something
like that,” Julie said. She looked at Meg and shook her head.
“What if Steven decides to leave me because I can’t give
him kids?” she asked as she looked at Meg who shook her head.

Come
on. Your husband is too awesome to do such a douche thing like that.”

Well,
he did say that he doesn’t mind if I can’t have kids. He
actually doesn’t mind adopting but…” Julie started
to say before Meg took both of her hands.

One,
it hasn’t got to hat yet and two you still have viable eggs.
You could have a surrogate if you can’t carry,” she said.

Julie
looked at her and shrugged.

Where
the hell am I going to find a surrogate?” she asked as she
looked into Meg’s eyes.

Right
now, you don’t have to think about that. All I want us to do is
go home and get you in bed, hopefully for a few days,” she said
as she helped Julie to her feet. “I don’t even know what
you were thinking going to work today,” she added as she helped
Julie into the passenger seat.

Maybe
all I wanted was not to think about anything,” she said when
Meg got into the driver’s seat.

Buckle
up,” Meg said as she pulled her own seatbelt and buckled
herself in. She started the car and looked at Julie. “All you
need is to not think about anything. And that includes work,”
she said smiling.

Julie
closed her eyes and leaned against the head rest as Meg drove her
home.

Chapter Seven

For
the next few weeks, Julie did nothing but sleep in and eat junk and
Steven was being the best version of himself. He took a leave of
absence and stayed home with Julie taking care of her. It took almost
an entire month before she decided to go back to work and Steven was
loving the fact that the Julie he knew and loved was back. He was so
happy with the new her that he felt he needed to do something to
celebrate it.

It
was on a Thursday afternoon and Julie was trying to figure out what
she had to do to make up the difference for the days she didn’t
work. She looked up when Andy knocked on her door and poked his head
in. She frowned when she saw the goofy smile Andy had on.

What?”
she asked as she looked at him.

Your
hot husband’s here,” Andy said.

She
looked at him and smiled.

What
are you still doing there? Let him in,” she said. Andy winked
at her and got out. Julie stood up and walked round her desk as
Steven walked into her office. “Hey you,” she said as he
walked towards hr. He kissed her and then slipped an arm around her
waist and pulled her close to him. “What are you doing here? Is
everything okay?” she asked. “And what are you trying to
hide behind your back?” she asked as she tried looking over his
shoulder. Steven smiled and brought his hand from his back producing
a gorgeous bouquet of fresh pink and white lilies. She looked at him
and smiled before she stood on tip toe to kiss him. “How did I
not see those? Am I that short?”

Yes,
you are,” he said smiling. He looked at her and shrugged.
“Well, you like them?”

She
smiled and took a sniff of the flowers.

I
love them. But I have to ask, what did you do? Or what did I do?”

Nothing.
Can’t a man just visit his wife at work and bring her flowers?”

She
looked at him and raised an eyebrow.

Okay.
I’m hooked. What’s going on?” she asked. He looked
at her and loosened his tie before he pulled it off and then opened
his top shirt button. “Now I am little concerned. Should I
maybe get the…” she started asking before Steven pulled
her into his arms and kissed her again.

Let’s
get out of here,” he said when he pulled away. She looked at
him and then looked at her computer.

It’s
like three in the afternoon,” she said.

It
doesn’t matter. Just do it. I know for a fact that Dana is out
of town and I miss having my woman all to myself,” he said as
he held her. She looked at him and sighed. He was right, it had been
a long time since she had been alone with him. “Come on. I have
the best day all figured out.”

But
still I have to…” she started to say before he pulled
her into his arms again and kissed her deeply. “Fine, we’re
leaving,” she said when she pulled away and walked to her desk.
She switched off her computer and grabbed her bag. “So how are
we doing this? You do know I drove here this morning, right?”
she asked as they walked to the door.

I
can always drive you to work tomorrow,” Steven said.

She
looked at him and smiled as she opened the door.

I
will not even try to argue,” she said as they walked out.

Oh
hey guys. Leaving already?” Andy asked as he looked at her.

Yeah.
I guess I am just going to call it a day.”

I
guess prince Charming here really went all out,” Andy said
pointing at the flowers in Julie’s hand.

Yeah
he did,” she said with a smile.

Come
on, we’re burning daylight,” Steven said in a low voice.

She
looked at him and smiled at Andy.

Got
to go,” she said before they walked out of the office area.
“You do know that Andy is probably checking out your ass right
now, right?” she asked as they walked to the elevator.

Oh
I do,” he said smiling. “I have felt that look ever since
he replaced your old assistant.”

She
looked at him and laughed.

And
you are okay with that?” she asked.

He
shrugged.

Well,
I did choose you, didn’t I?” he said as they walked into
the elevator. She looked at him as he pressed the basement button and
then turned to look at her.

So,
mister. Where are we going exactly?” she asked as they rode in
the elevator.

He
looked at her and shrugged.

I
could tell you or you could just be patient and let me show you,”
he teased.

She
shook her head as the elevator doors opened.

You
did pull me out of the office in the middle of the day…”
she started before he looked at her and raised an eyebrow.

It’s
three o’clock in the afternoon. It’s practically the end
of the day,” he said as he opened the door for her.

She
climbed in and waited for him to get in the driver’s seat. She
buckled herself in and tossed the flowers on the back seat and leaned
back wondering what Steven had in mind for her. She had thought of a
million things that he could have had in mind but what he did totally
and completely blew her away. Steven took them to an Italian
restaurant for a late lunch before he drive them back home. It was
almost seven when they got home and Julie felt weird being home this
early.

Do
you realize we haven’t been home this early in months?”
she asked as they walked into the house.

Steven
smiled and nodded.

Yeah.
And it is great, right?”

Julie
sat down and kicked off her shoes before he joined her. She looked at
him and nodded.

I
guess it is,” she said in a low voice. “So, Mr.
Davenport. What was this about?” she asked.

Steven
looked at her and shook his head.

I
just wanted to be with my wife ad show her off. And I also just
wanted you to know that I appreciate the fact that you are better,”
he said.

She
raised an eyebrow over the other. “Better?” she asked.

Well,
ever since the day at the doctor’s…and I didn’t
want to push you out of the nest before you were ready and…”
she leaned over and kissed him deeply cutting him off. She pulled
away and looked into his eyes.

Thank
you for being so supportive,” she said when she pulled away
from him. He smiled and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

There
is no other place in the world I would rather be,” he said as
he held her close. It was right there and then that he felt it. It
was like he was falling in love with her all over again. She looked
perfect…awesome…sexy. She was looking into his eyes
when he leaned forward to kiss her again. She was breathing hard as
his tongue sought hers. She moaned into his mouth as he pulled down
her zipper and then pulled up her blouse. She looked at him when he
pulled away as he slowly unbuttoned her blouse. This was the first
time in almost a month that they were getting intimate and the moment
was as intense for her as it was for him. She began undoing his shirt
buttons as she looked into his eyes. He leaned forward again and
kissed her softly as he pushed her blouse off her arms. She followed
suit and pushed his shirt off before running her hands over his rock
hard abs.

You
look so beautiful,” he said in a whisper as he pushed her skirt
off. Julie didn’t know why but his compliment made her blush.
