On the other side, Wesken stood with his fist up, poised to knock.
She opened her mouth to speak, but he didn’t let her. With one big step, he closed the distance between them. He brought his hand up, holding it there for a half-second before caressing her cheek. He stroked his thumb over her bottom lip, and looked her in the eye. “I’m sorry, I…” He grunted as he pulled her into his arms. His mouth crashed onto hers in a hard, desperate kiss. He brought his hands up, burrowing his fingers in her hair, holding her still for his invasion.
Shocked, Amalija didn’t respond for a second, but when his tongue demanded entrance and his growl rumbled deep in his throat, she melted against him, giving what he demanded—taking what she needed. He moved forward, forcing her back. She vaguely registered her front door slamming shut as he pushed her deeper into her home.
She bumped into something, and something else crashed to the floor, but it didn’t matter. She fisted her hands, grasping the soft cotton covering his chest. The shirt had to go. She tugged at it, freeing it from his jeans, then growled when it wouldn’t go up past his arms. She tore her lips from his, tugging again.
Wesken grabbed the shirt at the back of his neck and pulled it off in one smooth move. But rather than kiss her again, he did the same to her. Her bra came off as quickly. Material might have torn. She wasn’t sure. All she knew was that he was now pulling her jeans off, along with her undies. The garments went flying across the room and then he was on her again. He lifted her up so that she was sitting on the high table in the entrance hall. Whatever she’d had on there was gone, but she didn’t care.
His mouth was on her again, licking and nipping at her lips, her jaw, and skimming lower. When he got to that sweet spot where her neck connected to her shoulder, he bit her—hard. Not enough to claim, but he’d left his mark. A jolt of pleasure ricocheted from her neck to her pussy, and a wave of need flooded her. Her pulse throbbed in her clit, making her moan.
He brought his lips down her chest, leaving a trail of fire as he grazed his teeth over the swell of her breast before capturing her nipple in his mouth and sucking hard.
Amalija gasped and arched her back. It was too much. Already, her body was close to climax, and he still wasn’t naked. She needed him inside her. With a quick jerk of her hand, she popped the snap of his jeans, then slid the zipper down. “Now, please,” she begged.
With her legs wrapped around his hips and his mouth on her breast, it was all she could do to focus on getting his jeans down. She didn’t even care if they came off, as long as his cock was free and going inside her. Using both hands and her feet, she yanked, pulled, and pushed until they slipped over his ass to his thighs.
He moved to the other breast, leaving the first bereft, but not for long. He cupped it in his hand, kneading and squeezing, then with his fingers, he tortured her nipple while he did the same to the other with his mouth—his teeth. The gentle bite on the sensitive flesh had her quivering and needy cries spilling from her lips. He did it again and again, covering her breast with kisses and bites, driving her wolf mad.
Unable to wait any longer, she reached between them and grasped the base of his cock.
“Amalija, I need you,” he whispered against her skin then pressed a soft kiss to the swell of her breast. “All of you. He kissed the area just above her heart, nuzzling her skin before nipping it again.
When she slid her hand to the head of his cock, he moaned again and thrust forward in her hand. His cock jerked against her palm, and so she did it again, reveling in the feel of him in her hand. But that wasn’t what she needed. Later, she could explore his body and drive him wild with want, but right then, she needed him inside her.
Lining him up, she brought her mouth to his ear, nipping at his lobe. “Please, Wesken, now.”
Wesken grunted and let go of her nipple with a pop. She managed to get her hand out of the way just as he slammed forward, taking her in one hard thrust. He claimed her mouth again, ravishing her with his kiss as he sunk all the way in. Even though his kiss went on, the rest of him stilled. He gripped her hips, his fingers digging into her flesh, but he kept himself seated deep inside her.
She wanted more all at once, yet didn’t want it to end, and if he moved right then, it would. She was that close. With one little swipe on her clit, she would shatter all around him. With one thrust of his cock, she would explode.
Heat and unbridled passion shone in his eyes when he pulled his lips from hers to look at her. “I want to bite you so much it hurts.”
She swallowed her moan at the pleasure his words sent streaking through her. He’d been biting her skin since he’d come barging through the door. This was more. He was asking if he could claim her, and she’d be damned if she left any doubt about what she wanted. She tilted her head to the side, presenting him with her neck. “So, what’s stopping you?”
He opened his mouth as though to say something more, but then he swooped down, pulling his hips back at the same time. His teeth clamped around her flesh, then as he slammed home again, he bit her. White hot pleasure crashed over her as he held her there. Everything around them disappeared. Her breath caught in her throat, and she let out a long, husky cry. Then he started moving. He thrust into her—long, hard thrusts that had the table slamming against the wall and sent the framed picture hanging there crashing to the floor next to them.
Amalija held on to him, her fingers digging into his shoulders as he pounded into her. The sound of cracking wood didn’t slow him down. Instead, he tightened his grip on her hips, keeping her safe even as they lost themselves in each other. As soon as he released her neck, Amalija leaned in.
“Mine,” she whispered before she staked her claim. Biting into his shoulder sent a ripple of pleasure through her, and try as she might, she couldn’t hold back. Her body quivered and quaked all around him, gripping his cock in tight spasms as he drove himself into her. His grunts and moans came louder and louder until he cried out, then stilled as he came deep inside her.
Amalija didn’t release him until every last aftershock subsided, and even then, it was only enough to bury her face in his neck. She didn’t know what had happened, or why, but she didn’t care. He was there, and he had claimed her. They would work the rest out.
Wesken hadn’t intended on taking Amalija right there in her front entrance, much less claiming her. That wasn’t entirely true. He had wanted to sit down and talk to her. Tell her what he knew, and from the stories Roxie and James had told her before he’d come to her, he knew a lot. Then he’d planned on asking her to fill in the rest. He needed to beg her forgiveness for being such an ass. One way or another, they would figure it out and make it work. Mahehkan blood or not, she was his, and he wouldn’t live his life in misery because of his wounded pride.
But the second her door had flown open, and her beautiful face appeared before him, he’d lost control. He’d had to kiss her, but that hadn’t been enough. It would never be enough. Now that he admitted what his wolf had known all along, he couldn’t keep his hands off her. Not that he’d done a very good job of that before.
He trailed his fingers down the soft skin of her side and smiled against her hair when she snuggled closer. After their frenzied mating in her front room, he’d carried her to her bedroom and slowed things down, making her scream his name over and over until they had both fallen fast asleep. Waking with his gorgeous mate in his arms had been all that was needed to drive him to make love to her—again.
Taking a deep breath, he kissed the top of her head. “We need to talk.”
The second the words were out of his mouth, her whole body stiffened, but she didn’t pull away.
“Okay.”
“I’m not going to ask you about your time in the Mahehkan pack. I’ve learned more than I need to know already. I would have preferred to hear it from you, but I understand why you kept it to yourself.” The fact that she’d hidden such an important part of her past stung, but after what she’d been through, he couldn’t blame her for wanting it to remain in the past.
“I was afraid,” she whispered. “I thought you and Argram would send me away. You hate the Mahehkans. With good reason, but still. I was going to tell you the other day at the lake. That’s why I asked you to join me. But then you told me about your first mate and that I wasn’t yours. That’s when I knew I couldn’t do it. You’d see my secrecy as another betrayal. I believed you were my mate, even if you didn’t. If you had looked at me with the hatred you have for the Mahehkans shining in your eyes, it would have destroyed me.”
She hadn’t moved from his arms, and her head still rested on his shoulder, but she was stiff, and a crater could have been between them for the distance created in those words. He’d hurt her with his declarations—something he would have to make up to her. “Up until this morning, I thought that Kendra had been my mate. I was wrong. She never was. Only you. I’m sorry to have hurt you that way. I hope you can forgive me.”
She looked up at him then, her eyes assessing, questioning. After a moment, her lips tipped up at the corners, and she settled her head down again. The chasm between them narrowed a little. “You did believe it at the time. I won’t pretend to understand it all, but we’ll both have to deal with our pasts. And that’s okay. We have time to figure it out.”
She sighed, but then stiffened all over again. He didn’t stop stroking her skin, couldn’t have if he’d wanted to—she just felt so damned good against him.
“You said you learned all you needed to know about my past. How? No one knew. Not even my old Alpha. They never asked, and I never said.”
He had hoped to avoid this part of the conversation for a while longer. As soon as he told her about Roxie and James, she would be out of bed and racing to their sides. He was a selfish bastard for wanting her to himself for a while, but he wouldn’t keep the information from her.
Wesken reached down and tilted her face up so she’d look at him. “There are two other Mahehkans in the village right now.”
She sat up, and damned if his cock didn’t stir again at the sight of her sitting there with hair all mussed up, her lips swollen from his kisses, and his bite mark on her neck.
“You brought prisoners back?”
His growl rumbled free before he could stop it. “No, the bastards who came to the village are dead. So is the one who tried to take you from me. Orrin found a Mahehkan male and a female in the forest. The woman had been hurt pretty badly. He brought them back here. It seems they were looking for a bundle of clothing? You wouldn’t happen to know anything about that, would you?”
Her cheeks turned a pretty shade of pink, but she didn’t look away. “I left those for Rox—” Her eyes widened, then her hands flew in front of her mouth, and her eyes brightened with unshed tears. “She’s here? And James? He’s here?” She scrambled from the bed, and he followed, reaching her as her foot caught in the sheets, preventing her fall.
“They’re here, but I have to warn you, they’re in rough shape,” he told her as he backed her toward the bathroom, not bothering to take his arms from around her.
“What? They wouldn’t have hurt James. Not unless they found out he was the one taking the women from the camp…” Her brows tilted down as she frowned.
She bit her bottom lip, and he had to kiss it. When he pulled away again, she was less tense, and her frown was more of a smile. Better. But for how long? “Orrin thought James was the one responsible for Roxie’s injuries when he found them. James is lucky Roxie stopped Orrin from killing him. From the looks of it, he came damned close.”
Wesken waited for her fury to rise, but she just blinked up at him. “Can we see them?”
He reached in and turned the shower on for her. “Go ahead and shower. I’ll run home and do the same. It’ll be quicker.” Being away from her was the last thing he wanted, but if he climbed into that shower with her, neither would leave the house until morning.
She gave him a little smile, then stepped onto her tiptoes to give him a sweet kiss that left him wanting so much more. “I’ll be quick,” she promised, then ducked behind the curtain.
When she peeked around it and winked at him, he took a step closer, but then she giggled and closed it again. “You better hurry, or I’m going without you.”
He growled at her, but when she laughed from inside the shower, he knew he was beaten.
Amalija entered the infirmary expecting the worst, and she wasn’t disappointed. Laying on a cot was her brother. Someone had to have warned him she was coming to see him. Why else would he be in his human form? Seeing how battered and bruised he looked after more than twenty-four hours of recovery, she could only imagine how painful that shift had been.
“James,” she whispered as she approached. His eyes were closed. The one on the left remained swollen and dark purple, but he turned to look at her. Even though she could only see the right eye, joy shone in its depth.
“Amalija,” he said, wincing with the effort.
“Don’t. Don’t try to speak. Delana told me about your broken jaw. I’m so glad to see you.” She tried to keep them in, but her tears streamed down her face.
He lifted a hand from the thin mattress and held it out to her. Taking it, she came to sit in the chair next to him. “I’m fine. It hurts, but the bones have mended. You’re even more beautiful than I remembered,” he said. “You look just like her—like our mother.”
