tive. He headed to the elder McDuff's home for an interview with much more on his mind than a missing person's case.
Something else happened on March 6. At 11:45
A.M.
, just outside of the Federal Building in Waco, two Deputy United States Marshals leisurely walked towards their truck to drive over to the Waco office of their close friend, the Assistant United States Attorney. The three men looked forward to another of their many enjoyable lunches, but on that day it would be anything but that. Before the two marshals reached the parking lot, they encountered two FBI agents named Freddie Vela and Bobby Seale. In passing, Seale asked the marshals if they had ever heard of a fellow named Kenneth Allen McDuff. "Absolutely," replied one of the men. As Seale briefed the two men about the Melissa Northrup Case, and how Kenneth McDuff's car had been found only a couple of hundred yards away, "red lights" went off in the their heads. As they listened intently, beneath their large cowboy hats, their brows furrowed and eyes narrowed. "You call quit looking. That's your man!" the elder of the two marshals said, with complete confidence.

On March 6, many things happened to bring about the ultimate downfall of Kenneth Allen McDuff. Not the least of them was the outrage of those two marshalsMike and Parnell McNamara.
They headed for the office of Assistant United States Attorney Bill Johnston with a new sense of urgency, and for more than just lunch.

3 Aaron Northrup testified under oath that he slept in the living room of his father's house that night and could see the clock on the VCR. Thus, he is fairly certain about the times. Even so, I consider the times that follow a very good estimate, and more valuable in establishing a sequence of events. MCSO Files:

11 Of course, only Kenneth McDuff knew exactly what happened that night. He never gave a statement or testimony implicating himself. Given the evidence, timelines, and circumstantial evidence, I consider the following description of the murder of Melissa Northrup to be the best possible reconstruction.
