Zinc glycine lozengeszinc is necessary for proper immune function; lozenges containing zinc bound to glycine have been found in studies to have an antiviral effect. Do not give your child a therapeutic dose of zinc (30 milligrams) for more than one week. Normal zinc intake should be 15 milligrams per day.

Beta-caroteneused by the body to produce vitamin A, which heals mucus membranes.
Fever
Aromatherapy
Eucalyptuscooling, soothing, especially helpful if fever is associated with a cold or other respiratory discomfort. Add 2 or 3 drops to a small bowl of lukewarm water for a sponge bath.
Peppermintcooling, stimulating, especially helpful if fever is associated with tummy complaint. Add 2 or 3 drops to a small bowl of lukewarm water for a sponge bath.
Lavenderantiseptic, soothing, relaxant, especially helpful if child is anxious and fretful.
Thyme linalola powerful antiviral, helps with elimination of toxic wastes from the body; do not use directly on the skin. Add 4 drops to a warm bath.
Homeopathy
Aconitumfor the first 24 hours of a fever, especially one that begins suddenly after exposure to cold.
Anas barbariae
(trade name: Oscillococcinum)for fever associated with the flu.
Arsenicumif the fever increases between midnight and 2 A.M.; the child is anxious and fidgety.
Belladonnafor sudden fever with chills, a flushed face and body, dilated pupils; worse with noise and light.
Bryoniaif child is irritable, has a strong thirst, wants to be alone, may be constipated.
Gelsemiumif child's whole body feels achy and flushed, eyelids heavy and droopy, has no thirst.
Mercurius solubilis
for a feverish child with offensive-smelling breath, body odor, stool, or urine.
