Jessica Freeman-Slade and the entire crew at Clarkson Potter, you guys rock! Jessica awed me time and time again with her
thoughtfulness and attention to detail. She is whip-smart and I am lucky to have had her as my editor.

Tim Ferriss’s
4-Hour Body
was one of the first books I devoured on the subject of living a better life. (Confession: I originally thought of
A Good Food Day
as a companion cookbook to
The 4-Hour Body
, although Tim might not be down with pasta recipes.) Tim is the ultimate badass, always pushing and experimenting with ways to optimize time, health, and wellness. He has taught me and his readers how to be cleaner and leaner, and I am grateful to have the ability to shoot him a text to ask about the newest source of glutathione or what have you. He’s a busy guy who somehow always finds the time to help.

While we are on the topic of badasses, I’ve got to mention David Black, agent extraordinaire. I’ve always felt safe with him in my corner—he was such a strong advocate for me over the years, and I am honored to be on his roster of authors. The miniature hand-painted rocking chairs with which he gifted each of my daughters when they were just weeks old are indicative of the fact that behind his hard-assed business savvy is a man with a huge, thoughtful heart.

Last, and very important, I want to thank my mom for instilling in me a love of food and everything that surrounds the rituals of eating. She was way ahead of her time: “Eat real food, not too much, mostly plants” was her MO decades before Michael Pollan gave eloquent expression to such an approach. Growing her own vegetables on our property in Milton, New York, she taught me the beauty and wonderful taste of quality ingredients, prepared simply. When she cooks me something to eat, it feeds me like nothing else in the world can. All I can say is, You are an amazing mama, Mamma.
