Epilogue

It’s my graduation day and I don’t know who’s more excited; me or Jace. He’s been begging me to move in with him ever since he got out of the hospital last year. When he wants something, he can be very persistent. And annoying as hell. Three months ago I gave in and agreed to move in after I graduated.

There are movers packing up my things at Ryan’s and delivering them to his—our house—at this precise moment. Camilla and Isa are overseeing everything. I’d rather they were here, but Jace wants everything to be set by the time we get home.

“You did it, babe.” He scoops me up in his arms and spins me around, kissing me in front of Miranda, Bear, and other friends.

“Longest four years of my life,” I chuckle.

“I finally have you all to myself,” he smirks.

Not only am I finished with school, I have a new job working as a customer service representative at a bank. Not the most glorious job, but it’s a step up from waiting tables.

“Congrats, Soph,” Ryan says and pulls me in for a hug.

Ryan has become the brother I never had but always wanted. I love the guy. He and Jace have also become good friends. It’s rather strange watching a badass biker hanging out with a gay guy, especially when Ryan’s new boyfriend Tom is around. Tom is a tad flamboyant and doesn’t bother hide his appreciation for Jace’s svelte body. The first time Tom smacked his ass—a drunken lapse in judgment—I thought I’d die from laughter. Jace just stood, frozen, with wide eyes. But he’s used to it now. The joke is if Tom wasn’t in love with Ryan, I’d have some stiff competition. Pun intended.

“Congratulations,” Miranda says with a gigantic smile and hugs me. She understands my happiness more than anyone since she just graduated from her online course.

“Congrats.” Bear flashes his bright white teeth and pulls me in for a hug.

They’re living together now. I admit I was worried for them after Mike’s death, but Miranda was a trooper. Sure, they had bad days, but they always pulled through. Bear stayed by her side through it all. He loves her so much it’s sickening. She has a way of reducing the guy to a whimpering baby. If she told him to strip and ride his Harley naked through rush hour traffic, I believe he’d do it.

Thank God Jace has more pride than that. There isn’t much he wouldn’t do for me, which he’s proven to be true, but at least the guy has boundaries.

The club is throwing Miranda and me a blow-out party in our backyards. After a leisurely ride along the lakeshore, the four of us pull into our driveways. Everyone is already there, music is playing and Mick is at the grill. Camilla stands next to him chastising him about burning the hotdogs. He argues that everyone likes them that way. Jace and I laugh at the sight. I imagine that’ll be us in twenty years.

Isa darts to my side.

“Hey sis! We’re all done. If you don’t like where we put things, I can always come over tomorrow and help rearrange.”

“I’m sure it’s fine, Isa.” I smile.

“You know, since you’re living together now, you might as well get married.” She shoulder bumps me. She’s been begging us to get married for months now so I’ll “officially” be her sister.

I choke and Jace doubles over in laughter. He’s made it perfectly clear he’d love to get married. And I’ve made it clear I will marry him. One day. But, there are things I want to do before we get married. I want to enjoy being young and in love and have fun as a normal twenty-something. And hopefully by the time I’m twenty five I’ll be well on my way in a career in business management.

Besides, for now, I have everything I need. Great friends and a wonderful, loving family. Life will never be perfect, but I don’t think it can get any better than this.

About the Author

I am obsessed with the written word. When I'm not writing, I'm reading. I can get so lost in a story, be it one of my own or someone else's, that I won't even break away to eat, drink, or take a bathroom break. By the time I get up from a story, I'm usually dizzy from low blood sugar, suffering blurred vision, and hunched over from a painfully full bladder.

Whenever I'm not writing or reading, you will find me working out, trying my hand at landscape photography, and spending time with my husband, Scott, and our four legged child, Sasha.
