“Yeah,” he said.
“And we should go before I have a full-on psychotic break.”
We made our way up the embankment and to the car.
When Phil keyed the engine to life, the radio came on. But rather than music, the DJ was blathering at us.
“A lot of people are saying they jumped the gun on reopening New York,” he said. “No one knows for sure if it's really safe.”
“Right,” said his partner. “A lot of congressmen are saying that when they retake Washington, D.C., next year, they're not leaving Fort Collins until it's proven to be one hundred percent zombie-free.”
I clicked off the radio.
“Those guys can suck it,” I said as if Phil had asked what I was doing. “I, for one, choose to remain positive about this move.”
“That's the healthiest choice,” Phil said.
I leaned over and gave him a quick kiss.
“That's for always knowing the right thing to say. Okay, ‘Drive,' she said,” I said.
He put the car in gear and I put my feet up on the dash as we drove off toward our futures.
