He inhaled. “Shit, I think I burned our steaks.”

“That’s okay I like mine done. Like done done. No bloody T-bone for me.”

Shuddering, he led the way to the kitchen and found their steaks done to her liking. “You are a disgrace, woman.” Xan grabbed the bag of premade salad out, quickly running it through water and putting it in a bowl. She grabbed out salad dressing and plates and then they sat down at the table like two old married people. He found it to be the best dinner he’d ever eaten.

“Why are you smiling like that?” She asked pointing her fork at him. He loved how tiny she was, yet she fit him perfectly. Everything about her was made just for him.

“R
eport, soldier.”

“She got away.” He stood with his eyes straight ahead, his hands clasped behind his back.

Rage threatened to consume her. “What do you mean, she got away? There were four of you. Two vehicles and hers. She is a weak female. I understand you are human, but I’ve trained you. So tell me again, how she got away?” Her growl had the men in the large conference room bowing their head. A show of submission that had her wolf calming.

“We had her and then a crazy wolf attacked. He killed Peter, Alan, and Jason. I barely escaped and only because he was more concerned with her life than mine.”

She glanced around at the dozen men standing around her. Each one hand picked, and trained to fight to the death. They knew the consequences of failure. Her claws came out.

“Wait.” He held his hand up.

“I went back and watched through my binoculars. Your daughter is either mated or fucking the beta of the Iron Wolves.”

“Good job, Russ.” She patted his cheek, her nails scraping a little close to his throat. “Next time, if I send you on a mission to bring my daughter to me, dead or alive, you better make sure you follow my orders, or don’t come back.”

It was good being the one in charge. It had taken years for her to build a pack that could take on her old one, but first she needed to make
her
heel. The hatred she felt toward the girl burned in her gut. She’d been the light of her mate’s life until they’d had the young female, and then he and their twin boys had loved her more. Every time the girl with the golden blonde hair smiled, they acted as though the sun rose and set on her shoulders. She would have to sit and watch them fawn over the child, and forget she existed. It was up to her to discipline her since the males didn’t seem able to do it, and what did they do to her? They exiled her. Made her a pariah to her pack and tossed her out with nothing but her clothes, and a few thousand dollars.

Well she’d show them who was the alpha, the top bitch of the pack, and it sure as shit wasn’t a sniveling little whelp that came out of her vagina.

“I want a team to head over to Xander Carmichael’s place. Boys, this is a level five.” Growls met her orders. Four of her strongest warriors stepped forward.

Eyes bright, a soldier nodded. “We will go.”

“Yes. Lead them and come back with good news, Yuki.” She glanced around at the rest of her pack. All men willing to do what she told them. Yeah, it was good to be the alpha.

A quiver of excitement went through her. Once she rid the world of the little bitch, she’d allow her mate and sons to grovel and beg her for forgiveness. After they met her punishments, she’d see if they were worthy of her pack. She met Ron’s gaze across the field house. Lust shimmered in his black eyes. Inhaling she could smell his need for her. Although he was young enough to be her son, she enjoyed his stamina. Most humans couldn’t keep up, but he seemed most eager to prove he could.

With a tilt of her head, she turned on her foot, and left the men to keep watch while she took care of her needs. Ron followed, his steps almost silent. She’d have to work on a few things with him once they finished. Need pulsed through her veins as she imagined what she would do to her old mate. He was insatiable when they’d been together, until...she stopped thinking along those lines.

The door to her apartment was kicked open. She turned around, facing the large human who followed her in. “Get naked, now.” She growled.

Sandy Mattice pulled the top out of her cargo pants, kicking her boots off while he fumbled with his own clothes. He tore off his boots, but she finished before he did, walking backward to the bedroom, motioning to him with her finger.

He was on her in seconds. She allowed him to lift her, enjoyed having his weight over her as he pinned her to the bed. When he shifted over her, his mouth moving to cover hers, she turned her head. She didn’t kiss, but allowed him to suck on her neck. He didn’t have canines to bite into her neck, but she still enjoyed the feeling. As he filled her, she closed her eyes and pretended he was someone else. Her mate Brien.

She clamped her lips shut, coming quickly.

Ron shuddered through his orgasm. He’d learned she didn’t enjoy vocal lovers.

“Will you ever choose a mate?” He asked above her.

Sandy tilted her head. “Don’t you have rotation?”

He grunted. “Yeah.” He sat up. “I’ll take a shower and then I’ll head out.”

“You do that.” She patted his back, knowing it would be the last time he visited her bed.

Chapter Five

an was constantly surprising her. Breezy smiled, waking up at the predawn with her mate pressed up against her back. His large palm holding her left breast possessively even in sleep. Through the window she could see the tree line, and sensed movement. Her body tensed.

“Good morning.” He nuzzled her neck.

She closed her eyes and forgot about the anomaly in the woods, assuming it was one of the pack guarding the perimeters. “It’s not quite morning yet.”

“How do you feel?”

The room was beginning to brighten but she knew what he was asking. She tossed the blanket aside and straddled his body. They’d cleaned up the kitchen after eating the steaks and salad, then talked for what seemed like hours. When she couldn’t keep her eyes open he carried her to bed, stripped her out of the borrowed clothes, and refused to make love to her.

Now, she had him under her and at her mercy, she wasn’t taking no for an answer. “I’m all healed, and horny.” She whispered.

His hands came up, rubbing her nipples. “Whatcha gonna do about it?”

Breezy was so eager to try everything, she slid down his body. She pressed kisses on his chest, nipping at the small flat discs of his nipples.

“You’re playing with fire.”

She looked up with her teeth holding the little bit of flesh, humming.

“Just remember, I will get my turn with you.”

Xan spread his legs and made room for her as she knelt between them. She used both hands, running them up and down the hard shaft, making him growl. His erection was so large she couldn’t encompass the entire thing with both hands. She swiped her tongue over the tip, taking the pearly fluid into her mouth. His heartfelt groan was music to her ears.

“Fuck, I won’t last.”

Breezy sucked him into her mouth, licking, nibbling, and working her hands at the same time. She didn’t have any experience, but what she lacked she hoped she made up for with enthusiasm. He seemed to agree, his dick getting harder and bigger, filling her mouth.

“Damn, woman.” He pumped his hips.

She swallowed on her own groan, tasting his salty essence, felt his orgasm build as his balls drew up tight. She was sure he was about to come, when he reached down and pulled her up by her shoulders.

“What the heck?” She asked in disappointment.

“I need to be in you. We have the rest of our lives to taste each other.”

She started to suggest they try the sixty-nine position, but Xan had other ideas. He lifted her effortlessly, the tip of his cock brushed her entrance.

“Are you wet and ready, or do you need me to make sure?”

“Damn you, don’t make me wait.”

He entered her slowly, guiding her down on him, their lovemaking slow and sweet. He moved his hips, rocking her back and forth then backward again. Her hands found purchase on his chest, then leaned forward and kissed him. He felt even bigger and harder in this position.

His hand slid between their bodies, and brushed his thumb over her clit. Breezy screamed as his touch shot through her. His low sultry laugh made her bite his lip.

“What was that for?”

“You’re so cocky.” She writhed on his cock as he flicked his thumb back and forth, sending her over the edge.

“I have a reason to be,” he grunted.

Breezy tried to focus on his words, but with his fingers and cock working their magic, she couldn’t do anything but come.

She collapsed on top of him, then jerked as he lifted and flipped her onto her back. His movements became frenzied as his come shot out. She felt his canines bite into the mating mark igniting another climax, then he licked the spot.

“Mine,” she growled and bit him.

“Yours. My Brielyn Breezy Mattice, soon to be Carmichael.” He brushed the hair back from her face.

“Is that your subtle way of asking me to marry you?” She licked her lips, staring up at her mate’s dark eyes.

“You need roses and chocolate?”

Breezy loved him. “I just need you.”

“You’ve got me. I’ll always be here. Protecting you and our cubs will be my main priority.”

Her head turned toward the window. “I saw the guards in the woods. I don’t know how comfortable I am with them being so close. I’m glad your windows are tinted.”

He growled. “When did you see them?

“When I first woke. I looked out and noticed movements along the tree line. I assumed you knew.”

Easing out of her, Xan sat up. She assumed he was contacting Kellen. “There are no guards this close to my home. Are you sure it wasn’t an animal?”

“I know the difference between man and animal, Xan.”

She pulled the sheet over her naked breasts, feeling suddenly exposed.

Xan let out a deep breath. “I’m sorry. Shit. I need to go check the perimeter.”

She gave him a sharp look. “I don’t think you should go alone.”

“You’ll be safe inside the house. Lock the doors, set the alarm and if you feel threatened you shift. You call for help, and you stay safe. Feel me?”

She swallowed past the lump in her throat. “All right. I could go with you though.”

He kissed her hard and fast. “I’d be worried about you.”

Meaning he wouldn’t be able to focus on the task at hand. “I’ll whip up some crepes. I’m sure you have the things I need for them.”

He stood and walked to the door while she pulled his shirt over her head. “Walk me to the back door and then do as I said. Kellen is on his way from his side. If there was someone here that shouldn’t have been we will know. If they are still here,” he trailed off.

On the other side of the door she knew there could be trouble. Humans weren’t known for being straight up fighters. While Xan and Kellen would attack their enemies head on, the men who had chased her would use anything at their disposal.

“I know what’s going on in your mind. You’re what’s important, so stay safe inside these walls.”

“Fine, but if you get hurt, I will be so mad.” She struggled for breath through her fears.

Xan’s voice was gentle as he kissed her one last time. “I’ll be back before you can burn the pancakes.”

“Crepes.” She corrected him.

“Real men eat pancakes.” He opened the door to the back and slid out noiselessly. His nudity no issue as he shifted into the large wolf. He turned, clearly waiting to see she followed his orders and locked the door.

an waited for Breezy to lock up the house and then he went hunting. When he’d listened to her talk of someone being near the tree line, he’d known instantly something was wrong, and was glad he’d paid extra for the double paned windows with the tint. He looked forward to killing the fucks who dared to enter his land.

His muscles bunched in the body of his wolf, stopping next to the trees that bordered the land with the best view of his bedroom. He swiveled his head in the direction of the log home, filtering sun glinting off the windows. The smell of vegetation and animals were overlaid with a faint trace of another. Xan realized they weren’t dealing with an average human. Not a shifter, but someone skilled at hunting and hiding.

He turned to see the big black wolf stalking toward him. “
Smell that?”
He asked Kellen through their connection.

Kellen’s head nodded. “
I tracked several other unfamiliar scents along the border separating our properties. Faint but there. You thinking what I am?”

The suppressed growl broke free. “
They were here waiting, watching. The question is who they want and why. There’s no way they knew Breezy was with me. Unless we were followed.”
Xan thought back to the ride back the night before. He’d been focused on Breezy, but he was sure if there had been a vehicle behind them Kellen would’ve noticed.

There was nobody trailing us.”
Kellen’s eyes dared him to question his words.

Xan nodded. That was the good thing about the alpha, if he said he knew something, it wasn’t him being boastful, it was factual.

Have you talked to the guards that were stationed out here last night and this morning?”
The glitter in Kellen’s eyes let him know he wasn’t going to like the answer.

They didn’t see or hear a thing. Actually, since their orders were to stay far enough away they wouldn’t accidentally see the two of you, if you decided to step outside nekkid, they wouldn’t have been this close.”
Kellen’s tone held a hint of steel.

He got the meaning. From this point on, they all needed to be on guard, even when they were on their property. “
Breezy’s my mate.”

“No shit. I felt it when you connected. Alpha, remember?”

If a wolf could roll his eyes, Xan was sure Kellen just did. “
Of course, oh great one.”

Kellen’s wolf bumped him in the side, and he looked up to see they’d circled back to the spot they’d met in. “
Did you notice there were no tracks?”
