Tyler walks out the door to the waiting taxi while we say our goodbyes. As I walk out the door, I turn back and smile at Anna.

I promise, Matt. I’ll make sure she’s taken care of.

FINALLY HOME FROM the airport, Ty heads to his place to unpack and grab a few things while I call Jenna and let her know I’m home. She’s been looking after Charlie since we’ve been away and I can’t wait to get my little man home. Before I walk into my room there’s a knock at the door and in runs my little guy.

“Hey buddy, Momma missed you so much. Did you miss me?” I ask my little fluffy bundle of energy as he jumps up at me trying to get into my arms. It’s a good thing he’s a little dog with a short tail or my apartment would probably be destroyed.

Still standing by my front door, Jenna casually asks, “So… good trip?”

I huff out a big sigh. “You have no idea. I’ll fill you in another time, Tyler’s on his way back down and I’d rather spare him having to relive it again.” I give her a sarcastic smile as I roll my eyes.

“Seriously, that’s all you’re going to give me? Fine then, I won’t tell you my news...so there! I’ll make you wait too,” she playfully says, sticking her tongue out at me. Now I’m tormented; I want to tell my best friend about my weekend, but I also want to spare my boyfriend from having to relive it again.

“Fine!” I blurt out as I twist my mouth at her, “You win. Here’s the rushed version.”

I fill her in on everything that happened. “Okay, I spilled now you!”

“Jasper asked me to move in with him on Friday night and I said yes!” She starts to squeal and so do I. I’m so happy for her, but then I realize what she just said...move in with him. My best friend is moving away.

“So does that mean you’re moving out of the building?” Looking down at the floor, she sluggishly nods her head. I know this is hard for her. Before Tyler and Jasper came into our lives we were inseparable, but things change, and we were both lucky to have fallen in love with great guys.

“Hey, you know it’ll be okay. We’ll still see each other.” I pad over to her and I wrap my arms around her, hugging her tightly. “I’m so happy for you.”

Tyler walks in with his bag, and his eyebrow raises as he looks at us. “Everything okay, ladies?”

I look up at him and smile. “Everything’s great!” I tell him, trying to sound enthusiastic even though I’m sad my best friend, the closest female friend I have ever had in my life next to my mom, is moving away. “Jenna and Jasper are moving in together. Isn’t that great?”

“Congratulations, Jenna. Are you guys moving into Jasper’s place or yours?”

“We don’t have a place yet. Both our places are so small that we thought we’d find something a little bit bigger. We’re going to start looking this week.”

A devious smile forms on his lips. “You know I’m moving in with Brooke in a couple of weeks, right?” he says, walking up behind me and wrapping his arms around my waist. “My place hasn’t been rented yet and it is bigger than yours. Just saying.”

God, I love this man.

THE LAST COUPLE of nights I’ve felt really off and I wonder if I’m coming down with something. Tyler came home from work today to find me curled up on the couch with yet another pressure headache.

“You really need to go and see someone about these headaches.” Concern weighs heavily across his face as he sits down on the edge of the coffee table across from me. “You never get headaches and now you’ve had them the last three nights in a row. I’d be lying if I said they didn’t have me worried.”

He brushes my cheek, gazing into my eyes. “I’m making you a doctor’s appointment tomorrow.”

“Really, I’m okay. It’s probably just a virus or something. I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about,” I offer, trying to reassure him. I place my hand on his knee and squeeze gently, then smile lovingly as I gaze into his beautiful eyes. “I promise, if I’m still not feeling any better in a couple of days, I’ll let you take me to the doctor.”

With a subtle smile, he places his hand on top of mine, interlocking our fingers. As he leans his face in closer to mine he playfully says, “Don’t you dare think I won’t drag your ass kicking and screaming if I think you aren’t feeling better.” He winks, pulling my hand to his lips and tenderly kissing the inside of my palm. “I’m gonna get changed, and when I get back I’ll take care of my girl.”

I stand up from the couch and wrap my arms around him. The feel of his strong hands underneath my T-shirt and stroking against my bare flesh sends a shiver through my entire body. Slowly pulling back, he watches me closely. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

I kiss his cheek. “I’m okay. Go get changed. Dinner’s in the oven.”

I hear the click of his dress shoes against the hardwood floors as he walks down the hall towards our bedroom. I carefully pad into the kitchen; the slower my movements the less my brain feels like it’s going to pop out of my head. I bend down to check on the enchiladas in the oven. Straightening up, I’m overcome with dizziness and I grip the edge of the counter to try and steady myself, my head resting on the cool counter. I feel him come up behind me, but it takes everything I have to keep from falling down, so he picks me up and carries me back to the couch. “We’ll see about that doctor appointment,” he says. “I’m not kidding, Brooke.”

“Okay, you win. Make an appointment and I’ll see a doctor.”

TWO DAYS LATER I’m sitting in a doctor’s waiting room with Tyler flipping through the terrible selection of old celebrity magazines.

“I know it’s busy at work right now, but you didn’t need to take the afternoon off to take me to the doctor.”

“I wanna make sure you’re okay, all right?” He turns to kiss my temple. “And besides, I didn’t believe that you would actually make it to the appointment. Knowing you as I do, I’m sure you’d find a way to get out of it.” He chuckles quietly as I playfully smack his arm with a magazine which elicits many a look from patients sitting in the waiting area.

“Tyler…” I sigh as I shake my head in mock disgust, but he’s right. I’m sure I would have found some way to get out of going to the doctors. Ever since the accident I avoid hospitals and doctors like the plague.

A few moments later I’m whisked into the exam room while Tyler waits for me. I hear a brief knock on the exam room door and the doctor walks into the room…

WHOA!

I had envisioned someone around the age of sixty but no, I got the hot doctor. He has to be about six foot two with thick, dark, chocolate-brown hair cut short and a golden California tan. His broad shoulders had me wondering what his chest looked like under his button up dress shirt.

I’m sick. Not dead.

“Miss Adams, I’m Dr. Renner.”

He even has a hot guy name. This is so bad.

“So what brings you in today?”

I explain the headaches and the dizziness and he asks me if there has been anything else going on. As he begins his examination, one of the first questions out of his mouth is, “Could you be pregnant?” to which I defensively respond, “No, of course not.” I’m shocked by his question. “There's no way I could be pregnant. We’re always careful.”

Looking at me with an amused smile on his lips he says, “Never say never. You’d be surprised at how many careful pregnancies I see.” He raises an eyebrow. “Before we go any further, I'd like to do a quick test. Let’s just make sure you’re not pregnant.”

Pregnant? Could I be pregnant? When did I get my last period? Damn, I keep meaning to chart them. I’ve just been feeling dizzy and headachy. I know what it's like to feel pregnant. I’ve been there before and I don't feel pregnant. How will I explain this to Tyler?

Dr. Renner hands me a plastic cup as I walk down the hallway to the restroom. A few moments later I return to the exam room and hand the sample to the doctor and sit patiently as he places what looks like a colourful strip of paper into the cup. Seconds later he turns to me and says, “Congratulations, Ms. Adams, you
are
pregnant.”

Those are the last words I hear before the room goes dark.

I WAKE UP on the exam table with Tyler by my side.

“Hey you.” His words are tender as he carefully runs his finger along my cheek. His eyes never leave mine. I motion to sit up, but he carefully pushes my shoulder back down onto the bed. “Shhh. Relax, Brooke. Just stay where you are until the doctor comes back, okay?” Strangely enough I feel a little relaxed at Tyler taking charge right now.

Hot doctor returns, wheeling in what looks to be an ultrasound machine. I think it’s safe to say Tyler knows. I throw my forearm over my eyes, trying to block out the world until I can muster the strength to face Tyler. I feel a warm hand caress my forearm, then slowly remove it from my face.

“I know, Brooke, and I love you.”

“Brooke, I’d like to do an ultrasound to see how far along you are and make sure that everything is all right.”

I look up at Tyler.

“It’s okay, baby,” he mouths, so I nod as Dr. Renner hands me a paper drape.

“I need you to remove everything from the waist down,” he says as he holds up what looks to be a large, white sex toy. Tyler looks at the doctor, then looks at me with a devilish grin. I know exactly what’s running through his mind. Men! I’ve heard of the internal ultrasound, but I’d never needed one with Katelin. Could this be any more embarrassing?
