Zen nods.
“The moment, Lizzy arrived, she showed us what happened. You know, this is only the beginning. As soon as this is all over, you and Nora will be immortal, and your kids, well they will become …” Zen stops.
“Become what, Zen?” Robbie asks.
“There is an old legend in Boligon of extremely powerful warriors born of the purest of blood. These beings were some of the most powerful of all beings. There is not much about them. They were just tales, but your twins will not be immortal and they are not Szion. The only other being they could be is a Deglon,” Zen says
Robbie smiles and kisses Nora.
“Yes. Our Deglon. Many others after them will be our world’s warriors. Losrath said you all will lose your Szion powers. What is left of the Szion and Szion born children will become Deglon. Each unique and each with a hunger to destroy evil. These two will have the strongest of the Deglon bloodline, which means they will never be safe. We must kill Dumont.” Robbie says.
“Robbie you will have to change them when they are older. You know the change I mean. It is not safe for them. No one can know who they are,” Zen says.
Robbie nods.
“My babies are not warriors!” Nora snaps.
Robbie laughs and hugs her.
“They will be,” Robbie says.
“When will this Deglon change take place for us Szion,” Zen asks.
“I don’t know, but get the word out. We want every Szion to be ready for the change,” Robbie says.
“We can’t,” Jonny says.
“What? Why?” Zen asks.
“Don’t know. It must be the change already. I tried to reach Robbie earlier. I wanted to let him know Lizzy had come home, but I couldn’t. I tried to call out to any Szion and couldn’t. I thought it was just me. You know—the stress and all,” Jonny says, galloping around wildly.
“Let me try,” Zen says.
He shakes his head.
“Nothing.”
Robbie nods then closes his eyes.
“A call to all. Szion life is over and a new life will soon conquer you. I don’t know when or how, but prepare yourselves. Please respond,” Robbie says aloud.
He waits. After a few moments, random whispers of replies ring in his ears. Robbie sighs and opens his eyes.
“Oh my god,” Nora whispers.
“What is wrong?” Mia panics.
“There are only 30 Szion left in this world. Dumont has killed the rest,” Robbie replies.
Jonny carefully removes the twins from his back and sadly walks out of the room.
“Soon there will be only us,” Zen says, also standing to his feet and walking out of the room.
Their family is much smaller now, but they are stronger than ever. Everyday Robbie and Nora learn something about their new abilities and find that the twins continue gain new powers as they get older. Robbie blocks most of their powers, due to them destroying the house when they throw tantrums. However, it seems they find a new one to use every week.
Each week Zen and Jonny loses a Szion gift and gains a Deglon gift. At times, the change is incredibly painful and in other times the change is uncontrollable. Hunger for life grew in Mia and hunger for souls consumed the Szion.
As the months passed, Robbie’s family learned to live with their changes, but the many growing abilities that came with the Deglon life continues to surprise them.
F
our months have passed since the battle with Aria. Robbie and Nora decide the time has come for them to finish the cleanup. With slight power of gods and the life of a Shadow, they know defeating Dumont would be no easy task. They knew the last few months with their family would possibly be the last moments they had with them as they were.
The family awakes to Jonny’s famous omelets. After breakfast, while the children still slept, the adults sit in the living room sipping coffee and making plans for their next attack. After another hour, the twins walk in, rubbing their sleepy faces. They climb into Robbie’s lap and lay their heads on his chest while they slowly adjust to the morning.
Singing her good morning song, Mia walks into the kitchen to grab their warm chocolate milk she prepares for them each morning. The twins laugh as Mia kisses them. Lizzy jumps out of Robbie’s arms to snuggle next to Jonny. After feeding them, Jonny begins one of his tales. Each day the twins are excited to hear what story Jonny will tell. They excitedly sit near him and listen. Jonny jumps around like each wild animal he portrays in his story, making them laugh. He pretends to sword fight dragons making them gasp and jump. Every move he makes the twins react as if they were watching an incredible movie. Everyone loves Jonny’s tales, but not as much as Johnny loves telling them.
Moments after the story, Jonny is racing the twins to their room to play. Only a few minutes into their game of cowboys, Lizzy stops and gazes off into nowhere.
“Lizzy, what’s wrong?” Jonny asks.
Lizzy races out of the room. She stops in front of Robbie and smiles. This is no ordinary smile. Robbie’s heart jumps with concern. Nora looks at Robbie to see what he feels, but all she feels is his concern for the unknown message behind their daughter’s beautiful smile.
“What?”
Nora thinks to Robbie.
“I don’t know,”
he answers in silence.
“Lizzy, what’s wrong?” Nora asks, lifting Lizzy into her lap.
Lizzy looks up at her, her eyes soft and warming.
“Mommy, is bad coming?”
Nora’s eyes grow wide and everyone jumps to their feet. Robbie looks at Nora and smiles. Wasting no time Mia, Zen, and Johnny lock themselves in the safety room with the twins. Robbie turns to Nora and pulls her close, then kisses her gently on the lips.
“Are you ready for this,” he asks.
Nora only smiles. Robbie laughs and kisses her again. Robbie and Nora meet the shadows a few miles away from their home. The battle is quick. Unlike before Robbie and Nora were one with their strengths, leaving them in complete control. They didn’t stop with just that group of shadows, they moved from city to city and state to state destroying Light and Shadows. Along the way, they also take out as many of Aria’s vampires as they can find, with only one goal in mind—stopping Dumont.
Dumont rests against a tree in the shadows of Nadia’s cabin. She chants and dances naked around a fire in her yard.
“Will you stand there gawking at me all night or do you want to tell me what it is you want?” she says, sitting in a chair.
Dumont smiles and walks from out of the darkness.
She looks up at him and grins.
“Ah, nice choice. The prince is very handsome,” she says.
“Shall I wait for you to put some clothes on?” Dumont asks.
Nadia shakes her head.
“For what? It is nice out. Are you ashamed, Sir Dumont?”
“Not at all. You are quite stunning.”
Nadia brushes her short brown hair from her face and smirks. She motions for Dumont to sit.
“What can I do for you?” she asks.
“You know what I have come for. Can you help me?”
“Sorry to hear about your daughter,” Nadia says, turning her chair toward Dumont.
Dumont glares at her.
“Have I chosen the wrong witch?”
Nadia laughs.
“That is a very powerful couple. It will take a lot of my energy to make you that powerful.”
“What do you need?” Dumont asks.
She stands and slowly strolls over to Dumont, stopping directly in front of him. She runs her fingers through his hair.
“I’ve always wondered what it would be like to make love to a king,” she says.
“I don’t have time for this!” Dumont snarls.
His patience growing very thin.
She gives him a soft, seductive gaze.
“If you want the Szion family dead, it will cost you.”
Dumont frowns.
“What do you want?” he barks.
“I want what every woman desires. A child with a powerful man.”
Dumont smiles.
“You are human. Having a child with me could kill you.”
“I am stronger than I look. I was born with demon blood. Besides, I was not talking about you, Dumont. I want a child with the prince. It is his body you claim so it will be he that pays your debt,” she says.
Dumont runs his hands up her porcelain thighs softly. He grips them tightly and lifts her into his lap.
“Now, show me how bad you want the two of them dead,” she says with a mischievous grin.
Nadia and Dumont stand over her small table of herbs and candles.
“How will you do it?” Dumont asks.
“Lucky for you, Robbie and Nora are new to their power. Still powerful, but clumsy and not fully aware of their potential. They are protective, so they will not call for help. Illusion is the best way for you to ground them. We will make them believe you once again have their children. Weakening them is the only way. Your strength will not last long, so use it quickly.”
“How do I know this will work?”
“Oh, it will work. There is nothing they wouldn’t do to be sure that their children are safe,” she says.
“How long,” Dumont asks.
“I will call you when it is time.”
“How are you going to do that?” Dumont questions.
She grins and reaches for his hand. He holds out his hand. Nadia brushes his palm with a clear liquid.
“This will glow when it is time.”
Dumont nods.
“The palace dungeon was made to contain demons. It will not hold the two of them for long,” Nadia warns.
Dumont smirks and begins to leave.
“Why? Neither of them will grant you permission to have them. Greed can kill the soul. You already have everything. Why reach for what can’t be claimed?” she asks.
“I deserve more. I deserve it all,” he says, walking out the door.
“Dumont has claimed more lives than we had hoped. If we are to stop all of them we need more warriors,” Robbie says.
“We can do it alone, Robbie. We can’t risk anyone else getting killed,” Nora says.
“You can—but going head-on with that army will not guarantee your survival. We will hunt discreetly,” Zen says.
“The King!” Jonny yells excitedly. “Why didn’t I think of that before? The prince is a guard.”
“To what?” Nora asks.
“A portal,” Zen answers.
“Dumont is stronger and darker than any demon. Killing him in this world will leave his soul free to claim anyone he wishes. Taking his body in the Dark World will entrap his soul in that world. Only a Szion can bring him back and that won’t happen,” Jonny says.
“It's worth a shot. Okay, we go to England. The king will lend us his army of gifted.”
Miles outside a palace in Berkshire, Robbie, and his group stops. A stunning spring morning welcomes them in a grassy field. The sparkling drops of dew glisten for miles enhancing the earth’s natural beauty. Scattered wild Bee Orchid and Leucojum flowers paint the field with their elegant loveliness and sweet floral scent that lingers throughout the air. Nora inhales deeply embracing everything wonderful about the morning. She hopes it will not be the last time she is given an opportunity to enjoy the world’s beauty.
A boy no older than 13-years-old is walking his dog. He stares wide-eyed at the group. A slight fear spreads across his face and his dog runs away.
“Hello,” Nora says softly.
She offers him a warming smile, but the boy only stares at her. After a long silence, the boy slowly steps closer to them.
