Thinking about it, Brian wasn’t so bad. If I could’ve convinced him that he didn’t need anyone but me then maybe we could’ve been happy together. I was in my feelings but the truth was, I did miss my husband. Somehow, eventually I would need to break it down to Brian that we could no longer be. For the moment, he was a drug and had the drugs that I needed so desperately.

My phone rang again but I refused to answer it since I was already on my way to him. He missed me that much he was willing to stalk me until he got what he wanted. He was spoiled, wanting his way all the time. I smirked just thinking about how sweet he would look once I pulled up in the motel parking lot. I made my way down the street headed his way, feeling as though I needed him more than he needed me right now. My teeth began to chatter and my skin grew cold. Was I dead? The steering wheel felt like rocks and the engine like an atomic bomb, as I started the car and drove onto 95
th
Street. Touch and sound were pronounced. I needed a fix, a smoke before I lost my mind.

Moments later I turned down 89
th
and Ashland, pulling up in the parking lot of the old shabby ass motel we have to creep in all the time, Hogan’s Motel. It pissed me off every time I gazed at the old unlit sign with palm trees on it, as if this was an amazing five star resort. Yeah right, this shit was the quintessence of a hole in the wall shack to lie up in.

I exited the car, on my way to the stairwell. My legs guided me to the stairs but I was gliding, not walking. Like any other day I came to this rat hole, I dreaded going to the usual room he always requested. My Louboutin was on the first bottom stair, when my face was met with a fist knocking me clean on the dilapidated ground.

“Brian wait. I’m sorry!” My screams seemed to go unheard, as he bent his large body over to pound away at me like we were in a boxing ring.

“I said bring your ass to me immediately, so that means you’re supposed to come when I call! Not when you felt like it, bitch.”

He wailed away at me. I could hear faint voices of people standing around gasping at the current events. No one, not one of them thought to fucking help me. They were all probably too damn scared to interfere with this huge, Suge Knight looking motherfucka. As he stomped my body into the pavement with his ape-man feet, I couldn’t help but wonder if I would make it through the storm. Apart of me was expecting this beating though not of this magnitude, even though the more ingenuous part of me believed he was trying to be adorable.

It was then that I realized how stupid I sounded and how ignorant I had been for this man. It was then that I realized I couldn’t have loved myself very much to allow this to happen to me. I simply curled up into the fetal position hiding my face from the blows and prayed while I waited until he got tired enough to stop or, at least until someone grew enough damn balls to try and get him to stop. There was nothing I could do but take it. And, there was no reasoning with him either. Brian was only going to listen to the words coming out of his own pie hole and no one else’s.

“Get up bitch.” He breathed heavily out of breath, as I slowly peeled my bloody, bruised, sore ass from the ground. “Get the fuck upstairs. Now!”

My legs tried to run but my body had seized up from the abuse. Thankfully, though battered, my eyes were still intact and feasted on the countless bodies standing around for the show. I shot up the old metal stairs so quickly that only dust could be seen behind me. I shook my head in dismay, wondering what was wrong with people these days.

A woman could get beat down by a big burly man and no one even thinks to help or at the very least call for it. I frantically entered the room to see Trina stretched out on the bed. She was naked and seemingly dead if it were not for the smoke emanating from her mouth. I looked out of the window of the room watching Brian, as he shooed everyone to their private quarters yelling at them to get out of his business.

“I don’t know why you test him. You can’t test a man like that. You just have to do what he says girl and the rest will follow,” Trina spoke in a solemn tone.

“Ugh. Got dammit. You and your fucking wisdom and your stupid sex. How old are you anyway?”

“Eighteen. Been in the streets since I was twelve. I know how to play niggas like him to get what I want and a place to lay my head though. And, I also know that this ain’t the lifestyle for you boo. Get out before its too late, good pussy.”

Her legs played in the air slowly. It amazed me that she could be so numb to this way of living. She had obviously been through some shit to be able to give me sound advice like that. It was crazy because she didn’t put her own wisdom to good enough use for herself. She was like the hypocritical crack head that ran an anti-drug campaign. I could do nothing but shake my head in agreement as I gradually took my clothes off, wincing from the pain. Trina held out her hand sensing what I needed, what I yearned for. I snatched the primo out of her hand, sucking on it for dear life.
