“They won’t know.” He stepped down to the floor again and put the stepladder back where it had been.

 
“So it’s our secret.”

 
“Just you and me, Samantha.”

 
She sighed, taking his hand again and leaning against his side. “I still think we could send it to Patricia.”

 
“We are not sending my ex-wife a cursed diamond.”

 
“Okay.” Samantha smiled, pulling his face down with her free hand and kissing him again. “I love you, Rick. Thank you for doing that.”

 
“I love you, Samantha. And I hope you realize that most women would not be happy to lose out on possessing a diamond like that.”

 
The diamond was nothing, if it messed with this life that she was becoming increasingly fond of. And this man, who nestled deeper into her heart every day. “I’m not most women.”

 
“Oh, I’m aware of that.” Glancing down, he pulled a smaller box from the canvas bag. “Here,” he said, handing it to her.

 
Her heart actually stopped beating. What if…what if…Samantha took a breath. First things first. And first, she needed to know what was inside the damn velvet-covered box. Resisting the urge to close her eyes, she flipped open the lid. A pair of glittering triangles, tri-tipped in diamonds, winked back at her.

 
“They go with the necklace,” Rick said. “And I had them made into clip earrings, since your ears aren’t pierced.”

 
God, he was so proud of himself. She felt pretty good, too, because she hadn’t fainted. She leaned up and kissed him again. “Thanks, Brit. They’re beautiful.”

 
“You’re welcome, Yank. Have I earned your company on a fishing holiday, now?”

 
She laughed against his mouth. “Oh, you betcha, stud muffin.”

She once appeared on an E! special, Star Wars Is Back, as an expert on the romance in the Star Wars movies. Other highlights include winning her third-grade spelling bee, receiving an E.T. poster and T-shirt in an alien-inspired poetry contest, and submitting a script for The A-Team (which was not why the series was cancelled).
