“Perhaps I will die, but I can feel your powers are depleted. You have but one mere spell left. If you use it on me to summon the bird, you will never get home in time to save the life within you. You are running out of time, witch. How entertainingly ironic. The
timeless witch
has not much time at all.

“Even if this beast gets me, how will you wrestle my head and heart from its talons? Your puny little human form hasn’t the strength. I will be reborn and live again to search out your brat as it grows within another, while you remain trapped here. What a delightful thought. While I wait for my rebirth, images of you running from raptors and a tyrannosaurus will entertain me.”

He was right, damn the cocky bastard. My life may yet be forfeit. I would need to rely on any of my returning powers to keep me alive in this place, or I must seek my demise immediately to find a new host and save my child.

That could take a bit of time, as no humans had yet to be born in this era. Once a new host was found I would need to wait and rebuild my powers before I could find her. It would be a race between Alistair and me. As he said, he could sense her, too.
Damn the evil prick.

The moon shone higher above me as my thoughts raced. The irony was to die again on All Hallows’ Eve, the day of my birth, the day of my rebirths. I remembered the Grim Reaper and his warning grin. The hideous child, what could it mean?

I had hoped to appease the Keeper of Halloween with my incantation for forgiveness, to offer contrition. I had hoped to atone for my sin of battle on this most sacred day. My eyes widened with my thought. Had Alistair asked for such forgiveness?

Alistair moved to strike, while I furiously pondered my dark dilemma. I jumped, but it was too late; his great teeth sank into my thigh and I screamed in agony. I struggled wildly, sobbing in pain, wondering if this was how my child had felt. I beat helplessly at his scaly head.

I could hear the laughter bubble up from Alistair’s throat as he squeezed tighter, trying to snap my leg in half. The agony was unbearable. I whimpered shamefully, but I knew better than to plead for my life. He was not about to grant me a merciful end.

On a whirlwind of flurry, the massive pterodactyl struck. I had not needed a spell to summon the beast after all. Our movements, our thrashing must have attracted the predator.

Alistair made a noise deep within the back of his throat as the beast tried to tear the snake’s body from my flesh. Alistair’s teeth held strong, refusing to set me loose, wanting us to die together.

Too late, he realized his folly as the beast grew angry, and in one snap it severed my foe’s head from his body, leaving it attached to my thigh. In that precious moment, alive with determination, I slammed my fist through his reptile chest and yanked out his heart. The beast flew off, taking the remains of Alistair clasped within its talons and teeth.

I dragged my aching body up torturously after disengaging the serpent’s teeth. The blood flowed freely down my leg. I gathered sticks and small bits of kindling. Thankfully I found the two types of stones I would need to crack together for a flame. It did not take me long to start a small fire, and soon my enemy’s brain and heart simmered into ashes.

I muttered the death curse, grateful I was not in need to use my last precious spell. I was exhausted, but watchful of my surroundings. In this place, Alistair would have no time to find a human host; evil did not exist to sustain his body. His chances of doing so and being reborn in those mere moments were nil. I allowed myself a few brief minutes to catch my breath before saying the incantation that would return me safely and swiftly to my waiting family.

Chapter 5

Randar had been waiting for me after my battle with Alistair. I was weak from my return and I paused only a moment to return my child’s soul to the safety of my womb, and to kiss Randar’s cheeks, wet with his grateful tears. I begged the Keeper of Halloween for one last indulgence. Head bowed humbly in my exhaustion, I muttered a healing spell, and tears of gratefulness set my cheeks awash with wetness as my leg healed.

I then crumpled into Randar’s powerful embrace and succumbed to oblivion, safe in the knowledge I had beaten my foe; my child and beloved lived. For now, my legacy was out of harm’s way.

I woke much later in a soft bed of cool sand. I could hear the waves gently gliding across the beach, lapping at the water’s edge hungrily. I was confused, but content as I lay in Randar’s strong, warm arms. He looked pensively into my eyes.

“Are you better, my love?” he asked. His eyes were an open book of tender concern.

I stroked his short, dark locks from his forehead. “I am now.”

“I dreamed of us in the water, but it wasn’t a dream.”

“No, my love, it was no dream.” I chuckled. “What on earth possessed you to take me on a whale’s back?”

“It would appear the gods have granted me a boon for my long service to them. From now on, it will be I who chooses our first mating place.”

“Really?” I inquired. My eyebrows rose with the intriguing thought. My, my, this could prove very exciting indeed. “Is that why we remain on the beach, nude?”

He shrugged his shoulders sheepishly. “No, my dear Sophia. We remain unclothed and on the beach because you have not conjured our apparel, nor a place of our first residency.”

Ah yes, my powers. I shifted slightly, feeling chilled in the cool fall air. I was elated to feel the faintest of fluttering from my babe within me. She remained warm and snug, as should Randar and I be. With a wave of my hand, a brightly burning fire appeared before us. I nestled closer in Randar’s arms, enjoying his delicious heat.

“Are you not going to clothe us?” he asked incredulously.

“Not as yet, my beloved,” I purred.

My hand reached to stroke his broad chest; my fingers glided across his muscled physique, which was devoid of any hair, and I was puzzled. I looked down at his cock and noted a fine, though somewhat miniscule, spatter of darkened hair; the same were of his legs.

“You are almost hairless,” I said, puzzled. “Last time you were as hairy as a Kodiak.”

“At one time I
was
a Kodiak,” he rebuffed. I laughed merrily.

My hand reached to caress his organ and he groaned. “Ah, my love,” I crooned, “I see the gods may have taken your hair, but left you as big as a whale.”

“This time I will remember where it goes,” he promised cheekily.

“It was a little awkward at first, but what a child we have created.” I smiled while gazing deeply into his dark eyes.

“Our little water witch, does she slumber?” he asked urgently. My hand was rubbing against his growing erection.

“Yes.” My word was but a mere breath. He fastened his lips to mine with enthusiasm.

This time our mating was leisurely. There was no fear looming over our heads. Randar’s teeth grazed at my nipples, first one then the other. Lapping with his tongue, he drew my entire breast into his mouth and suckled deeply. I moaned with the sensations he aroused. He slid his fingers between my thighs and was pumping them in the most delightful motion.

“Do you still think human females taste divine?” I asked with a gasp. He mumbled affirmatively.

“And you, my love, do you think human males taste divine?” he asked, lifting his mouth from my breast to smile into my eyes.

He turned, shifting over top of me, to take his pleasure within my folds with his mouth and teeth, while I licked and laved the tip of his stiff cock, drawing him deeper and deeper, suckling his more than impressive erection, until I felt him quiver. Yes, in fact human males do taste wonderful, at least my beloved Randar does.

I stroked his silky smooth, hot cock, not getting enough of his taste. I groaned as he invaded me with his lips and tongue, exploring until I writhed with pleasure beneath him. We enjoyed one another until Randar could take no more of my delicious teasing.

He turned and proved he remembered where a man and woman joined. I cried out, not from pain, but joy, knowing this would be ours, this loving, for the next ninety years. Sensuously he stroked within me, while my climax built and grew with each heated, gliding movement. A breeze ruffled my hair and I knew the gods were pleased with our mating. Thank the gods for my Randar. We would love each other daily.

Randar howled his release to the moon. His powerful body lay atop me quietly. I cuddled myself in his arms. He made the most amazing blanket of warmth.

“I wonder about our little water witch, Sophia. Something tells me there will be a great power about her. I’m uncertain as to what it is, or means, though.”

“I have given my word to the Keeper of Halloween she will wait until the next All Hallows’ Eve to be born.”

Randar opened his mouth to ask how that was possible, and then closed it on a sheepish shrug. He quickly remembered I was a timeless witch. I had come into my full power days ago and was able to manipulate time as I saw fit.

“So our water witch has two protectors. This is serious. I had thought it would be our last daughter with the gift of two protectors. Such as you have.”

“Yes, my love, this is indeed a serious occurrence. The war of gods is stepping up quicker than we had anticipated,” I admitted. “I killed a powerful foe this night. I succeeded in causing a great blow to our enemies. Our gods are well pleased. Alistair’s gods will come after ours with a vengeance. They should have known not to tamper with a sacred night. They should not have scorned the magic. They should never tamper with the God of fate, who is as unpredictable as a tornado. Even they should remain within the guidelines of the cosmological energies.

“We have been given a powerful gift of added protection earlier. It is necessary to protect our previous children from harm. All that will come now will be even stronger. It was a small thing they asked of us, of our child, to wait until the next All Hallows’ Eve to be born.”

“What of our next babe?” he asked with some concern. “Just how strong will our next daughter need to be? I fear for their safety when they are in need of such awesome protection. Will we even be enough? I couldn’t stand to lose another; I couldn’t stand to fail another.”

“Do not fear, my beloved, we will not fail again,” I said soothingly. My dearest Randar loved our children so very much. The loss of our first daughter still plagued his nightmares, as it did mine. “Something tells me the gods have another interesting child for us to conceive. With each more powerful than the last, I am truly anxious for our next mating.”

“Well, let’s not be so hurried to rush this one, my love,” Randar exclaimed.

Chuckling, I rolled myself atop him. I trailed my hands down the length of his powerful muscles. He felt so strong, so unbelievably male. My fingertips played with his nipples until they hardened to fine pebbles. A slow grin spread across his face. He wrapped his hands around my waist, guiding my hips lower. I gyrated onto him while he groaned his pleasure.

“It has been too long, my love,” I crooned.

“We have ninety years ahead of us,” he reminded me.

“It’s never long enough,” I complained.

Slowly I mounted him. My body slid down the length of him, accepting all he had to give. We fit so perfectly together. I moved carefully back up his hardness, enjoying the exquisite feel of him. I tormented us both at my leisure, until with a deep growl, Randar turned me beneath him and plunged deeply. I cried out from the sheer strength of him. How wonderful he felt.

We would have ninety years to play and love one another. Ninety years to raise our beloved water witch together. I was happiest when cocooned in the love and warmth of my family.

And when it came time for my precious Randar to sleep and for us to part, I was secure in the knowledge he would be returned to me. He would be well protected under the sheltered seclusion of the gods.

Until that time, we would share many more moments such as this one. And wouldn’t it be fascinating to see what avatar my beloved darling would appear as next.

“It is too bad you will never come to me as a tyrannosaurus,” I muttered.

“Huh?” he asked with confusion.

I chuckled up into his perplexed expression. “Although the whale had been difficult enough, perhaps a tyrannosaurus or a raptor would be a bit much. Ah, a mammoth. Now wouldn’t that be exciting? Although I imagine you would once again come to me as hairy as the Kodiak had been. Not that I am complaining; it is such fun to stroke your furry chest.”

“Something tells me I will enjoy listening to how my little timeless witch tricked her opponent.”

He captured my mouth in a dance. He tightened his arms about me. The sand beneath my backside felt warm and soothing. Randar above me felt warm and soothing. I could feel the last essence of All Hallows’ Eve draining away.

The energy of the night subsided, but it would be back next year to welcome a new and powerful witch. How exciting. A Halloween water witch. Perhaps she would have need of all the elements to bring the turbulent seas and waterways under control. Only time would tell. And time was something I had a lot of.
