"Leah?"

"Yes?" The word was a breathless whisper.

His arms tightened around her. "That sound like a bedroom yes."

"Was it a bedroom question?"

"No, it was a boardroom question."

"Sounds dull," she said, then pulled back a little to study his face. "What's bothering you?"

He removed her hand from his neck and brought it to his lips. "The San Francisco job," he said. "It makes me uncomfortable knowing that you gave it up for me. It makes me feel selfish."

"It makes you feel selfish because you
are
selfish— where I'm concerned," she added when she felt him stiffen. "Just as I'm selfish where you're concerned. I think we need to take a trip to visit some rocks and dirt. Remember how it feels out there? Promotions, raises and status—those are not the main part of our lives." She met his eyes earnestly. "The main part of our life is us. Us—together. The rest are frills... perks... inconsequential additions."

He buried his face in her throat. "Yes," he said roughly. "That's it exactly."

"Besides," she said, her eyes sparkling, "I have my eye on another position at Universal."

He frowned. The Frown. But now it only made her laugh. "What position?"

"Vice president of marketing," she said, her voice carefully casual.

For a moment he looked startled, almost wary. Then suddenly he stood up with her in his arms and laughed all the way to the bedroom.
