Chapter
Twelve

Anna couldn’t sleep, she tossed and turned in the bed of Alyssa’s guest bedroom, because every time she closed her eyes, she would see Drew and Carter and they would be sneering at her and accusing her of things she didn’t do. Then, when she finally did fall asleep she dreamed of her sister, when they were children and her sister used to look up to her. They used to play together and even had a special hiding place for when their parents would argue and they knew their parents were going to take their anger out on them.

She pictured her sister in that hiding place, waiting for her now, calling Anna’s name for help. Anna had to help her sister no matter what she did to her, so she went. As she got closer, she noticed a pool of blood bubbling out from underneath the door of the closet. She could still hear her sister whimpering and crying out for her, inside, and reached for the handle to turn it. As the door opened, Anna glimpsed her sister coming into view and just as it fully opened, there stood Cheryl with a large hole in her throat and blood pouring out of it.

“Anna, you came for me,” Cheryl smiled, with those big, puppy dog eyes that always got Anna to do what she wanted.

Then Cheryl’s face started to change and she became a sickening mix of wolf and human, and the hole in her throat was still there.

“You stupid bitch,” Cheryl suddenly snarled at Anna. “I always hated you and you were always stupid enough to fall for my little tricks.”

Cheryl lunged for her, and just as she was about to gnaw Anna’s throat out, Anna woke up.

Sweat pooled down Anna’s face as she sat in her bed, staring into the darkness. She half expected a wolf to jump out at her and attack her.

As images of the dream began to fade and her heart rate settled, so she could finally hear something other than it beating, she realized she heard strange moans, groans, and even growls, coming from outside her door.

She wasn’t about to get up and check it at first, but then she heard a woman cry out, so she slowly climbed out of the bed and made her way over to the door. She opened it slowly, half-expecting Cheryl to be on the other side ready to kill her, but she didn’t see anything in the hallway when she peered out.

She, gingerly, crept into the hallway and tiptoed her way toward where she heard the noises. What are you doing, Anna? Don’t you know this is the part in the movie where you’re supposed to run the other way, not go toward the killer? She chastised herself.

She realized the noises were coming from the living room of Alyssa’s small house, so she walked up the hall, but stopped abruptly when she got to the door of the living room. There, by the fireplace, which was blazing with a hot fire, were Alyssa, Peter, and Jessie, in the throes of making love.

Alyssa was in between both men, and they were touching and kissing every part of her body. Anna couldn’t help but admire Alyssa’s sleek, slender body. Anna’s was nothing like that. Anna wasn’t fat, but she had a slightly rounder tummy and her breasts were nowhere as big as Alyssa’s.

Anna followed Peter’s hand as it traveled up Alyssa’s toned thigh and across her silken hips. His hand stopped just before reaching her breasts and Anna looked closer when she saw something out of the ordinary on Alyssa’s lower belling. Large, deep scars adorned Alyssa’s lower belly, making it dip into an unnatural shape. Anna wondered what had happened to Alyssa for her to have those scars. She was confused because she thought werewolves healed easily, with no scarring. Had Alyssa been human at one time?

Anna had no time to think about it, because just then Jessie, who was in front of Alyssa, picked her up and speared her with his large cock, making her cry out. Then Peter came up behind her, as she was kissing Jessie, and lined his cock with Alyssa’s ass, and then thrust into her, making her cry out again. Anna thought that cry had to be in pain, but when she looked at Alyssa’s face, she only saw ecstasy.

She watched as the men continued to thrust into Alyssa, who was riding them with pleasure. Each one of their faces was etched in what looked like pain and pleasure. The men looked at Alyssa, in awe, as they continued to fuck her in a simultaneous rhythm, and Alyssa had her eyes shut tightly, her head thrown back, and her mouth gaping open as she moaned and mewed in pleasure.

Alyssa’s moans got louder, turning into cries, as the men picked up the pace and became erratic in their thrusts. Suddenly, she screamed their names at the top of her lungs and both men jerked to a stop, moaning loudly and chanting her name, as if in worship of her.

They stay locked together and kissed her briefly on the lips, one then the other. Then they slipped out of her body, while Jessie held her and laid her down on the rug by the fireplace. The men then kissed each other and lied down beside her, taking her into their arms and whispering their love to her and each other.

Anna stood there as tears streamed down her face at the beauty of it all. She wondered if that would have been what it was like with Drew and Carter, and cried a bit more at the fact that it would never happen now. Drew and Carter hated her and would rather see her locked away forever than make love to her as if she was their goddess.

Anna couldn’t stand to watch anymore, so she went back to her room, quietly and threw herself onto the bed, crying into her pillow. After what seemed like an eternity of crying, darkness finally took her, and she fell into a deep dreamless sleep.

Drew was still beating himself up the next morning as he sat in the home office, rifling through paperwork that would usually be Anna’s job. Why had he believed that mongrel of a wolf over his own mate? He hadn’t even given Anna a chance to get a word in edgewise. He just barreled right over her and crushed her heart in his bare hands.

He remember the look of pure anguish he saw on her face right before Cheryl attacked him, as if she were standing there right now with that look on her face. He wanted to wipe it off and see her smile again. He wanted to take back everything he’d said to her and make everything better.

He was so excited to come home and finally claim her as his, seeing Cheryl in their office snooping for plans on what they were going to do with the Rogues, just threw him for a loop. He couldn’t believe this was the little sister that Carter had said came to them the night before, beaten within an inch of her life. She still had quite a bit of bruising, but she had healed rapidly and didn’t seem too worried about any pain while she was busy being a spy for the Rogues.

The way she had said that Anna probably found it disgusting that him and Carter were lovers made him think of that night Anna had caught them making love on the couch in the family room and ran off when they begged her to join them. In the back of his mind he knew it was because Carter had scared her with all of his growling, because he had smelled her arousal all over the room, but he couldn’t seem to let that go and the pain of thinking Anna was disgusted by them made him blind and stupid.

The phone rang, bringing Drew out of his thoughts, and he answered, barking a hello into the phone.

“Whoa buddy, someone’s grumpy in the morning,” Trent, a fellow wolf and Alpha of the New York Pack replied.

Drew sighed, “Sorry Trent, I’m having a rough morning.”

“Well it’s probably going to get a little worse in a second then,” Trent sounded hesitant to talk suddenly.

“What’s up? Did you find Anna?” Drew’s heart was pounding with trepidation.

“Well…..that’s the problem,” Trent went silent for a few moments and Drew wanted to yell at him, demanding he tell him where Anna was. “Your little mate never got off the plane here.”

A lump formed in Drew’s throat and he swallowed trying to push it down, and then croaked out, “What do you mean she never got off the plane?”

“Just what I said, Drew, we went down there to retrieve her and she never got off the plane. We think she might have stayed in Las Vegas, where the flight laid over.” Trent explained.

“Thank you, Trent,” Drew said, but didn’t feel. “I will get a hold of the Las Vegas Pack and see if they can find her.”

“Already done, buddy,” Trent replied. “I called them as soon as she didn’t get off. They went to the airport, hoping she might have just stayed there, but she wasn’t there. They are keeping an eye out, but they haven’t reported anything yet.”

Drew huffed as he noticed from his peripheral vision, Carter entering the room. “Thank you, Trent. You’ve been a great help and we’re grateful.”

“Hey, no problem, Drew, I know what it’s like having to convince a human mate that you’re meant to be. Thankfully, Mary stayed in the same city when she ran off.” Trent replied, and Drew could hear the sympathy in his voice.

“Thanks again, and get back to me if you hear anything,” Drew wanted to get off the phone and talk to Carter. “Bye.”

“Will do. Bye.” Trent replied, and then Drew hung up the phone and just looked at his mate, who was sitting in the chair in front of the desk.

“She didn’t get off the plane,” Drew dropped the bomb, figuring there was no way to dance around it.

Carter’s face contorted into confusion then disbelief, “What do you mean, she didn’t get off the plane?”

“Just what I said,” Drew replied, having a sense of déjà vu, but this time it was him explaining it and not Trent. “They went to the airport to get her and she never got off the plane. They think she may have stayed in Vegas, where the plane had a layover before flying to New York. They called the Vegas Pack and they went to retrieve her from the airport and she wasn’t there, so they are keeping an eye out for her, but haven’t reported anything to Trent yet.”

Carter’s face was pale and he looked as if he were going to cry, “Holy shit.”

“I know,” Drew replied, knowing just how Carter felt, because he felt it too, but probably a bit more, considering he was the one who ran her off.

“Well, we’ll just have to go there ourselves and find her,” Carter announced, a sudden look of determination on his face.

“What if we can’t find her though, Carter?” Drew argued. “Vegas is a large place and right now we can’t really leave the Pack unattended for a long period of time.”

Carter stood up, “So, what are you saying? You don’t want to find her now?”

Drew stood up too, angry that Carter would accuse him of not wanting Anna back, “You know full well that’s not what I meant. We have six Rogues sitting in our prison right now that tried to attack us. We can’t risk leaving for a long period of time and having our Pack attacked while we’re gone.”

“That’s why we have trained our Pack to defend themselves. The security alone will prevent anything from happening while we’re gone.” Carter sounded more like a petulant child than the Alpha of their Pack. “I want her back, Drew. I love her.”

Carter’s declaration hit Drew right in the solar plexus and he felt like the wind had been knocked out of him. His anger drained away as he looked at his mate, who looked like a lost puppy in the woods.

He rounded the desk and stood in front of Carter, putting his hands on his shoulders, “I love her too, Carter, and I want her back just as much as you do, but we have to think clearly right now.”

“I know,” Carter said, casting his eyes down to the floor, and then looking Drew in the eyes, so he could see the pain radiating from them. “I just feel lost without her here.”

Drew pulled him in for a hug and held him in his arms. He knew how Carter felt, he’d felt lost the first moment he realized she was gone, even before he found out Cheryl had been lying to him. He loved his little human mate so much, and he’d lost her because he didn’t trust her. The entire time she’d been there he kept pushing her to trust them, but he never gave her the same trust in return.

Suddenly Devlin, one of their top guards, burst through the door, “Forgive me Alpha, Beta, but the prisoners have escaped.”

Drew and Carter both raced out the door, following Devlin down the path, toward the compound prison.

“What do you mean they escaped?” Carter demanded.

“Nelson heard one of the wolves crying for help this morning and went to see what was wrong. The female had had her throat ripped out and one of the other men looked like he was pretty badly beaten. When Nelson went to open the cell door for a closer examination of the beaten wolf, they all turned on him and attacked, including the injured one. They beat him pretty badly and then fled, taking out Scott and Randolph too.” Devlin explained as they neared the prison.

When they entered the building the first thing that hit them was the stench of old blood. They went into the cell room, but stopped abruptly at the sight of Cheryl’s lifeless body lying on the cot with her throat ripped out and her blood soaked into the mattress beneath her.

Drew was the first one to enter and go over to her. “This wasn’t just some random act. Whichever wolf did this had sex with her either before they killed her or after.” Drew’s face twisted into disgust at the last part of his statement.

“I know which wolf did it,” Carter replied, which made every one look at him. “It was Robert and I’m going to kill the bastard.”

“Where are Nelson and the others?” Drew asked, watching the anger grow in Carter’s eyes.

“They have been taken to the infirmary, Beta,” Devlin answered, but kept his eyes on Carter with a look of expectation on his face. “We have guards out looking for the escapees. They shouldn’t have gotten far.”

“Well, let’s go,” Carter snapped. “I want to find Robert and rip his throat out myself.”

The three men walked out of the building and immediately changed into their wolf form upon exiting. Devlin led them in the direction of which the escaped prisoners ran, but as they neared the tree line, Carter sniffed the air and quickly broke away from the other two wolves. Drew followed him, knowing Carter was hunting Robert and wanting to be there in case Carter needed him.

They ran through the woods, over fallen tree branches and through narrow streams and then, suddenly, Carter changed course, taking a sharp left. Drew looked in the direction Carter had turned and saw a thin, female looking wolf running at full speed, away from Carter. However, as Drew neared them, he saw that it wasn’t a female at all, but a male wolf and by the way Carter chased the wolf, Drew knew that it was Robert, and he was alone.

Something didn’t seem right to Drew, so he slowed down and fell a bit further behind, just in case there were more Rogue wolves waiting to ambush Carter. They came to a small clearing in the middle of the woods and Drew hid behind a cluster of bushes, as Robert began to change back into a man, and stopped running. Carter stopped and stayed as a wolf, growling at Robert, poised to attack.

“Oh, come on Carter, old boy, don’t you want to fight me like a man?” Robert taunted. “Although, I’d prefer you’d fuck me like one instead.”

Carter immediately changed, bringing a low whistle of appreciation from Robert.

“You were always so well hung,” Robert leered at Carter’s cock as if it were a tasty lollipop that he wanted to lick.

“Enough Robert,” Carter barked. “You killed your mate and hurt three of my guards.”

“Ahh, Cheryl was such a pain in my ass,” Robert just chuckled. “I never quite liked the ‘fairer sex’ and the thought of being saddled with that for the rest of my life made me sick.”

“You’re sick, Robert,” Carter replied. “I would say you need help, but I don’t think there would be any help for you now.”

This made Robert throw his head back and laugh aloud. “Oh, you are so right on that one, but hey, we can’t all be perfect specimens of man like you are Carter.”

Drew was becoming jealous at the way Robert kept hitting on his mate, but he could tell by the look of disgust on Carter’s face that it was only making him ill to his stomach.

“You know, Carter, I have always wanted to suck that lovely cock of yours,” Robert’s cock had been hard since he turned into a man, and now he started to stroke it as he spoke. “I bet I could get it all in, if not my mouth, then definitely my ass.”

“Stop it, Robert,” Carter yelled. “You disgust me and you always have.”

“Now that was a mean thing to say,” Robert said in mock hurt. “Here I am offering my services to you and you have to go and get mean.”

Just then Drew spotted a flash of grey go past the line of bushes he hid behind and watched as a larger wolf made its way up behind Carter and positioned itself to attack.

“Oh well,” Robert sniffed. “At least I have my other lovers to give me pleasure. I’m over you now.”

Robert turned his back on Carter and the other wolf leapt into the air towards Carter, but Drew jumped out from behind the bushes and intercepted its attack, knocking the other wolf to the ground. It flailed for a moment, and then jumped back onto its feet, growling and snarling at Drew.

Drew saw that Carter and Robert had both changed back into wolves and now Carter was again chasing after him. Drew turned back to the grey wolf just as it lunged for him and deflected its attack and then he attacked it himself. They fought for dominance, each biting and clawing at the other, but in the end Drew won when he was able to grab a hold of the wolf’s throat with his teeth and flip it onto its back. The wolf whimpered its submission, but Drew knew the minute he let up, it would attack again, so he just bit down harder until he tore through its flesh, and then he ripped out its throat as blood poured into his mouth.

As the wolf’s blood pooled out of its neck, it began to change back into a man, and Drew saw that it was one of Robert’s lovers, Steven. The man gasped for breath, but couldn’t take in any air as blood filled his mouth to the brim then bubbled out. He looked up at Drew, his eyes still filled with contempt and disbelief at the fact that he had actually been defeated, but then he turned his head to the sky as his eyes finally glazed over and death finally took him.

Drew didn’t stay long by the dead wolf, but turned to run toward the direction Carter and Robert had gone. He didn’t get very far, though, before he came upon Carter, changed back into a man, standing over Robert’s dead, mangled body. Carter continued to just stare down at him, as Drew changed forms and walked up to him.

Drew put his hand on Carter’s shoulder to let him know he was there, and Carter quickly turned and embraced him. Drew felt relief as Carter held him in his arms, and then their mouths met as Carter kissed him hungrily. Drew knew this kiss wasn’t out of lust or desire though, it was to find comfort and reassurance in his mate, and Drew gave him what he needed, willingly.

After long moments of just holding one another, Carter pulled away and simply said, “Let’s go home.”

Carter took his hand and they both walked back toward their home, leaving Robert and his lover lying in the woods to be forgotten.
