She loved Greg. She loved Steven, but she loved Greg, too. How could she have suppressed something so massive as what she felt now for him? It burned through her. She had loved him in spite of his arrogant and demanding behavior. How could she not love him even more with the change?
Tears began to seep from her eyes as she slowly opened them. Steven’s face paled as her tears splashed on his chest.
“What’s wrong, love? Did we hurt you?” He shoved at Greg behind her. “Get off her.”
Greg immediately withdrew, being careful not to jar her. Then he was beside Steven looking at her wet cheeks. He looked devastated.
“Baby, I’m sorry. I know I got carried away, but I never meant to hurt you. Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!” He rolled over to sit on the edge of the bed.
“No. You didn’t hurt me. It was just too much—too much emotion. It overwhelmed me.”
She sniffed and wiped her face with the back of her hand. Steven pushed her hair back behind her ear.
“You remember, don’t you?”
“Yes. I loved you both. I loved you so much. I can’t believe that I didn’t remember.”
Greg turned back around and looked at her. There was hope on his face. She hated that she’d gone so long without remembering and caused him pain.
“I’m sorry, Greg. I’m so sorry.”
“You don’t have anything to be sorry about, baby. I’m the one who’s sorry. I let you down. You never should have had to worry about that damn thing getting into the house. We should have checked it better.”
“I love you, Greg.” She held out her arms.
He pulled her off of Steven and into his arms. Steven grunted but turned over toward them and rubbed Janet’s lower back where Greg’s arms didn’t have her covered. She wrapped her arms around Greg and held him to her before pulling back and holding his face between her hands to look into his eyes.
“I love you like you are, Greg. You didn’t have to change for me.”
“I did need to change. I was too overbearing. I didn’t have the right to dictate everything about your life. I’ll still insist you mind me when it comes to your safety, but I won’t fuss about the little things.”
“If you do, I’ll remind you who’s boss.”
“Me?” Steven piped up.
“No. Me.” She grinned and leaned back into Steven’s arms and kissed him.
“I never thought I would say this, but I love you, my little independent bride.” Greg kissed her nose.
“Do I still get one of you with me from now on?”
“Yep, we have a baby to take care of soon, too. You can’t deal with a baby and the garden, too.”
“Do I get to choose who does diaper duty?”
“
No
!” both men said in unison.
Then they all burst out in laughter as they rolled around on the bed. Janet couldn’t have asked for better men for husbands. She couldn’t wait to see them as daddies.
