Chapter 31
That night
The busty blonde stood out in front of the scene. She held the mic up as the man counted down the four, three, two, and go to her. She held up the mic. “Good evening, this is KCCI News Channel 8 here to report first. We got an anonymous tip less than an hour ago and were able to meet up with police on the scene. They are not saying anything, but from first look, I think that there is a new killer on the loose. There are two Missouri resides who are yet to be identified. We looked at the truck and other than a Missouri sticker on the bumper there is no identifying marks at first on it. We saw the victims being removed from the truck and their hands and heads had been removed. When police had gone to local campers, they were unable to find anyone available to question. Now within the last hour police have shown up in droves and have been scouring the woods looking for the killer, but all that they have been able to find are the temporary residents of the campsite.
"I have overheard a few deputies saying that this screams of the slaughtering that took place in Missouri not more than a month ago, which shook the nation when the news came out that they were finally able to put an end to the killings. Now the question comes up as to was this a copycat killing, or did the killer truly get away down south and make his way here to this safe and peaceful campsite?”
"We will give more details as they come to us, but as of now the police are not being very open mouthed with their answers. I don’t know about you folks at home, but this is Leslie Bryant with Channel 8 and I’ll be locking my doors and windows twice tonight."
Sunday of the search
Chapter 32
Christy screamed the best that she could as she heard the police sirens echoing in the deep distance. She started to cry uncontrollably when she saw Detective Hardin’s head come up over the edge of the steps. She was shaking, not even caring at the nails pulling at her feet and hands. She had a smile that only a mother could love as it was intertwined with the yarn and blood keeping it shut. Matt hushed her, coming to kneel before her. He smiled, but not a smile that was meant to calm her. He took off his police jacket, exposing a rig with the mask and a machete both dangling from his sides. He said, “Now you didn’t expect me to forget about you, did you?”
Chapter 33
The man used his cane to walk up the path to the old home. It was dark and the grass was overgrown; there had been no one to care for it since the passing. The man pushed the doorbell twice, waiting patiently. When the woman answered, the man said, “Hello, Rosa, Rosa Pendergrast?”
