His hands came up to settle her body more firmly about him, then he struggled to his feet, using the arms of the chair as leverage, her thighs still clamped to his hips.
‘Oh Nathaniel!’ She gasped, clinging onto him as he began to cross the room, supporting her weight. ‘My darling, be careful of your leg!’
‘Damn my leg,’ he grated, knocking a side table to the floor in his wake, its vase of flowers dashed across the rug.
She giggled at his expression, then hid her face against his shirt at the furious oath which followed.
Nathaniel reached the bed without further mishap, and threw her down across it. He tore off his shirt and pantaloons with a disregard that would have horrified his valet, and positioned himself above her silk-clad body. She did not think she had ever seen her new husband look so happy, nor so devilishly triumphant.
He pinned her wrists to the bed, as though determined to make sure she could not escape.
‘Now, my flighty Miss Faversham, you may consider yourself well and truly
caught
.’
