Authors: Celia Fremlin
“But he can’t hurt you. The door’s locked, and I’ve got the knife,” cried Mary again, desperately: and even as she spoke Katharine noticed that the hand holding the knife stopped trembling. It was strange to watch the Dark Man’s eyes beginning to look out from between Mary’s tear-swollen lids.
“Oh, Katharine!” her voice rose in a last despairing appeal. “Make the police come! Open the window! Tell them to hurry … hurry … because he’s coming….” Her voice dropped nearly to a whisper. “He’s coming … nearer … nearer…. Scream, Katharine! Scream out of the window! It’s your only chance! …”
And leaning out of the window, Katharine screamed and screamed.
