“I can’t wait, Mr. Spencer. Can we have a fast wedding?”

He snorted, “Whatever Mrs. Spencer wants, Mrs. Spencer gets.”

“Then let’s elope. Let’s go straight to Vegas.”

Jake shook his head, “Nope. You may have fast, but not that fast. Mrs. Spencer is going to have a ridiculous wedding. You will wear a hot and expensive white dress, I will wear a fantastic tux, your sisters will stand by your side, your dad will walk you down the aisle, and we will eat a ridiculous amount of food before we dance until our feet fall off. Then I’m taking you on the honeymoon of your dreams and I’ll fuck you in every way possible. I can’t compromise on any of the above, darlin’. I’m sorry.”

I was giggling uncontrollably by the time he was done. He was adorable in the best way possible. I was having a wedding. I was marrying Jake. And we were both happy.

The elevator door slid open and Jake took me to our door, which was open and waiting. A bellman was inside with a cart. A bucket with a bottle of champagne was on top.

Jake laid me out on the bed and I heard our door shut. My fiancée started to undress. His eyes were heated and locked onto mine as he slowly worked his way down the buttons.

“I get to call you my fiancée now. Much better than girlfriend, I hate that word.” He wrinkled up his nose as he undid his cuffs.

“I’m yours now, what are you going to do to me?” I grinned with delight.

He tossed his shirt onto the chair and I took in all his muscular deliciousness. “I’m going to make you scream my name.” He smiled and popped the cork, pouring two glasses.

The matter of fact way he just said that mixed with the very sexual pop of the cork and filling of the glasses… I was trembling with anticipation.

Jake slid his hand all the way up my leg, pulling my dress up along with it. “You have some damn fine legs, Eve. I’d like to see them wrapped around me in about sixty seconds.”

My breath caught as I pictured my bare legs wrapped around Jake’s tight waist. “I think I could be ok with that.”

He handed me my glass, “Drink up, I’ll also need to see your breasts smashed up against my chest.”

The very thought of my body pressed up against his with my breasts the only thing keeping our bodies apart made me shiver. I was wet. I knew I was because I could feel the throbbing. My body wanted what he was promising.

His eyes heated as he watched me heaving, “Are you done?”

I gulped down another sip and shoved my glass back at him, “I’ll finish it later,” I breathed.

His eyebrows danced as he set both half-empty glasses down on the tray. Then his hand wandered up my leg again, but this time he didn’t stop. He wandered all the way until his finger was inside me. His touch only made me want more.

After a moment of teasing he eased back out and stood, removing his pants, and watching me intently the whole time. By the time his cock sprang free, I was naked and waiting.

He slowly lowered his warm and heavy body onto mine. “Are you ready for this, Eve?” he asked, his voice was rough and deep and full of double meanings.

I ran my hands along his jaw and up into his hair. “I’ve never been more ready than I am right now.”

Writing is an insane journey into a void of the unknown. I had no idea what was going to happen. It was terrifying. I survived. I think.

I wouldn’t have had the courage to leap without the amazing support of friends and family along the way. So I’d like to take a moment to say thank you to a few people.

First, to my parents who are always supportive (no matter what). I owe a huge debt of gratitude to LeElla Scott and Cindie Butts for reading the first things I wrote,. You two were brave and kind, and I can never thank you enough. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Jennifer Southard for being my cheering squad! My very sweet beta readers: Lori Mooney, Julia Kelly, Raewyn McCombs, and Lauren Collins, THANK YOU! And to Denise Babbitt for being my ‘huzband’ and talking to me every single day whether you wanted to or not.

And finally, I need to thank my men. My boys put up with me while I wrote
The Storm Inside
during their summer vacation, and my poor husband was
forced
to help me by acting out scenes I’d written. He was terribly burdened, lol. Thank you for being such a team player and making me do this. And of course for all the editing help, too. I love you.

Also, I am eternally grateful to Imagine Dragons, Mumford and Sons, Alex Clare, Ben Rector, and Justin Timberlake for their musical inspiration while writing this book.

Finally, to all the readers who love disappearing into the pages of a book. Thank you for reading! Please come hang out with me online, I love meeting fellow book lovers!

xoxo
