Chapter 16

C
arla’s doorbell rang as she began turning off all the lights for the night. Mrs. Boston had left over an hour ago and Brandy had called to give her an update on Cord Jeffries’ condition and to let her know that Amber would be staying all night at the hospital with the man.

It had taken Carla a full hour to explain to Brandy what was going on with Amber and Cord Jeffries. Talking about Amber’s problems had momentarily taken her mind of her own.

She headed for her front door and paused before answering it. “Yes?”

“Carla, it’s me, Sonya.”

Carla quickly opened the door and was immediately engulfed in her best friend’s embrace. “What the hell is going on, Carla? I just got back to town and Mama told me everything. What is Jesse Devereau trying to pull?”

Carla led Sonya into her living room. “He’s asking questions about Craig,” she responded.

Sonya frowned. “Craig? How does he know about Craig?”

Carla sighed disgustedly. “Someone sent Jesse an anonymous letter in the mail telling him that he was Craig’s father. He confronted me on two different occasions wanting to know the truth and I refused to discuss it with him.”

Sonya shook her head. “But that doesn’t make sense. Who would send him a letter? The identity of Craig’s father is a closely guarded secret.”

“I thought it was. The only persons who knew were you, Brandy, and Amber.”

Sonya blinked when something suddenly stuck out in her mind. One night several weeks ago when she’d been more than slightly smashed, she’d run into Dalton Gregory. Somewhere in the back of her mind she remembered that in addition to giving her the best lay of her life, the man had also tried to pump her for information. She remembered not telling him anything at the start of the night, but hell, the only thing she remembered about the rest of the evening was reaching orgasm after orgasm after orgasm. Now she wondered if perhaps she’d flapped her jaws.

“Uh, Carla?”

“Yes.”

“I need to go.” Sonya quickly stood.

Carla lifted a brow. “But you just got here.”

“Yes, but I just thought of something important,” Sonya said, quickly heading for the door. “Look, I’ll call you tomorrow. In fact, let’s do lunch. By then I may have something to tell you.”

Before Carla could ask her what, Sonya was out of the door.

Grey inhaled a calming breath and willed his body to relax as he entered the suite with Brandy. When that guy had dropped to the floor at the anniversary party, Grey had reacted, and immediately had been impelled into action to protect Brandy. Not knowing why the guy had passed out he had immediately thought the worst. He had sighed a deep relief when the doctor had reported that the man had passed out from exhaustion and not poison. But still the incident had reminded Grey of his purpose for being there which was to find the person who intended to do Brandy harm.

“You were awfully quiet on the ride from the hospital, Grey. Is anything wrong?”

He glanced over at Brandy as she tossed her purse on the table. “No, everything is fine. I’m just glad that guy is going to be all right.”

Brandy smiled. “Well, yeah, he will be all right if he follows the doctor’s orders and get some rest. He sounds pretty much like a workaholic, but then I’m sure most of us have been there before.”

He nodded. He knew he sure had. He then watched Brandy as she moved toward her bedroom. “You’re going to bed?”

She turned back around. “Yes. This has been a very busy day and hopefully a good night’s sleep will cure everything. Good night, Grey.”

“Good night.” He watched as she went into her bedroom and closed the door behind her, thinking it was best that they had distance between them tonight. Even with his affirmation that he would keep his attention focused on what he was supposed to be doing, the fact remained that he wanted Brandy Bennett with a vengeance. He hadn’t been aware of just how much he wanted her, how much he’d begun to care for her until that incident tonight.

Damn.

He didn’t want to be, refused to be, and absolutely would not be another Masters that fell for a Bennett. Quinn had fallen and had fallen quite hard, but Grey Masters had no intensions of falling for anything or anyone. He didn’t care one iota that he felt a connection to her that he didn’t understand. Nor did he care that he thought she was the sexiest woman alive. The point remained that the woman had issues; she had parents who had issues; she had two girlfriends who had issues and she had cousins who were questionable, since he knew without a doubt that they would take certain matters into their owns hands if they felt they had to. Brandy Bennett was definitely not the type of woman he wanted to get involved with.

Too late. They were involved.

“Hell, no we aren’t,” Grey growled in a low tone as he quickly crossed the room to her office. He needed to check his laptop to see if there had been any new developments while they’d been out. He immediately noticed the blinking light on the phone, which meant someone had tried calling him. Closing the door, Grey sat down behind the desk and became absorbed in what he needed to do.

“Hell, don’t break the damn doorbell, I’m coming.” Dalton Gregory snatched opened his front door to find Sonya Morrison standing there. The one thing he remembered about the gorgeous woman was that when it came the sex, she was utterly insatiable.

“Hi, Dalton.”

His face lit up into a wide smile. “Sonya, this is a surprise. Please come in.”

Sonya smiled and sashayed into his home knowing that he was getting an eyeful from behind. She hadn’t bothered going home and changing since the hour had been far spent already. She had decided that the short dress she was wearing would do the trick. It wouldn’t take much to seduce a man like Dalton, and tonight without the impairment of alcohol, she intended to have the upper hand.

“So what brings you by?”

She turned slowly around. “I was thinking about you tonight.”

His smile widened as he leaned against the closed door. “Really? I was beginning to think you’d forgotten me since you hadn’t returned any of my calls.”

She fluttered her eyes a few times and threw her braids off her shoulders to call attention to the spaghetti straps of her dress, as well as the fact that she wasn’t wearing a bra. “Oh, I must have been out of town when you called. There’s no way I would not have returned your call after that night we had together. Just thinking about all the things we did had my panties wet for days.” She hated admitting it but it was the truth.

“Well, I’m always happy to provide a repeat performance.”

Sonya smiled when she saw that he had gotten hard already. “I was hoping you would say that because there’s a full moon out tonight. Have I ever told you what happens to me whenever there’s a full moon?” She saw his throat tighten when he tried to swallow.

“No, what happens to you?”

“I have a tendency to want to play out my fantasies, whatever they are.” She saw him swallow again. “And do you know what my fantasy is tonight, Dalton?” He had started fondling himself, right in front of her, and she wondered if he was even aware he was doing it.

“No, Sonya, what’s your fantasy tonight?” he asked in a deep, husky voice.

She licked her lips. “Umm, I’d like to taste a man from head to toe and utterly blow him away. ”She licked her lips again.“If you know what I mean?”

She saw the smooth looking grin that came on his face and wondered how a jerk—a damn handsome jerk at that—could be so good in bed.

“Oh, yeah, I know what you mean,” he said as he began unzipping his pants. “I’d love to accommodate you and we don’t have to waste any time. Come over here. I got just the thing for you.”

“I’m sure you do,” she said as she strode over to him and reached down and caressed his erection through his pants. Boy, was he hard. She had to force herself to forget just how many hours of pleasure this particular male organ had once given her. Right now she was too damn mad for that. That night when he’d brought her here he’d done so with the intention of doing two things: pump her for sex and pump her for information.

And he had successfully done both.

Now thanks to her, Carla was in one hell of a fix and Sonya was determined to do whatever she could to correct the problem. “But I

don’t want to do it here, Dalton,” she said in a very sultry voice.

He gazed down at her, confused. “Why not here?”

“Because it’s not part of my fantasy. My fantasy includes something naughty.”

He was having trouble swallowing again. “Something naughty?”

“Yes, terribly naughty. I want to do it in the school yard.”

He blinked. “The school yard?”

“Yes?”

“But it’s late. It’s almost midnight.”

“I know what time it is, but just think about it, Dalton. This is the best time. It’s dark, quiet, and it’s private. Haven’t you ever thought about making out in the backseat of a car at night in the school yard?” She smiled knowing that even if he’d never thought about it before, he wasn’t about to tell her he hadn’t.

“Oh, yeah, I’ve thought about it lots of times. What school do you have in mind?”

“Umm, since there will definitely be a lot of drama, I thought we’d use the one Wesley Snipes graduated from, Jones High School,” she said as she zipped his pants back up, then patted him. “Come on, let’s hurry. My mouth is tingling. And I prefer that we use my car.”

“All right, babe. I’ll do anything just to get your mouth on me.”

Sonya’s smiled widened. The two of them were alike in a number of ways. They had a tendency to think with their friggin’ body parts more so than with their heads.

Less than twenty minutes later Dalton was stretched out naked in the back seat of Sonya’s Infinity. He had quickly undressed and had tossed his clothes in the front seat. “Okay, baby, come on back here and let’s get this show on the road. I’m ready to get blown away,” he said lifting his arms out to her. It was dark and he could barely see her, and to be on the safe side they had disconnected the interior light in the top of the car.

The last thing either of them wanted was to get caught.

“Be patient, Dalton, I’m coming.”

He chuckled. “Oh, you’re going to be coming all right. As soon as you’re through doing me, baby, then I intend to do you.”

He heard her as she began climbing in the back seat. He felt her hands touching him, felt her strong, warm fingers take hold of his erection and it felt good. He was about to close his eyes when suddenly a bright light appeared, seemingly from out of nowhere. No! It wasn’t a bright light—it was a ball of fire! He tried to sit up. “What the hell!”

“Don’t move, Dalton, and I mean it. Don’t you dare move.”

He swallowed nervously. “Hey, baby, what’s that? I can get kinky like the next guy but I don’t believe in playing with fire. What the hell is that thing?”

“It’s a flame gun. I’m sure you’ve seen one before. They’re used to light barbecue grills, fireplaces, candles, and a number of other things.”

“But what are you doing with it in here?”

“Because if you so much as move one inch without me telling you to do so, I intend to give you the blow job you’ve been asking for.”

Dalton began getting more nervous. Sweat began pouring from his forehead. Sonya had that friggin’ torch too close to vital body parts. “Look, Sonya, move that damn thing away from me before somebody gets burned.”

“That’s my intent, pretty boy. I don’t mind being screwed but I’ll be damn if I’ll get screwed and used. And that night you used me, Dalton.”

He tried to inch backward. “I said don’t move, Dalton, or your balls get fried and I mean it!”

And Dalton believed her every word. He knew women had a tendency to get pretty emotional but he was beginning the think this broad was damn crazy. He could see her face through the flame and thought she actually looked like a she-devil. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, Sonya. I didn’t use you. We both got what we wanted that night. You said so yourself.”

Sonya frowned. “Yeah, but you got more didn’t you? You got information out of me that you used to hurt Carla and for that I have a mind to set your penis on fire.”

“Hey, wait a minute, let’s not get stupid.”

“I’m already stupid for first getting drunk that night and secondly, for going home with you. And what pisses me off even more is the fact that although I enjoyed having sex with you, I don’t even like you.”

Dalton had heard enough. “Put that damn flame down, Sonya, now! And back off!”

Instead of doing what he said, she moved the torch closer to his lower extremities. “Don’t you dare raise your voice to me, Dalton. I’m the one with the flame so I’m calling the shots and now is not a good time to piss me off more than I already am. But I wanted you to know that I know what you did and I don’t appreciate it.”

“But I wasn’t the one who sent that letter to Devereau. It was Carla’s mother who sent it. The only mistake I made was telling her what I had found out from you, but I didn’t know what the woman planned to do.”

A part of Sonya wanted to believe him, but if he was telling the truth as far as she was concerned it was too late now. “Well, even if Carla’s mother sent the letter, you’re just as guilty and I would suggest in the future that if you see me coming you’d best go the other way. Do you understand?”

“Hell, yeah, I understand you. Now take me back home, dammit.”

Sonya chuckled. “Not on your life, big guy. Get out of my car and don’t try any funny business or your thing will go up in smoke because I’m keeping this torch close to it at all times. If you want take a chance and call my bluff then do it but if I were you, I wouldn’t. I’m feeling somewhat crazy about now and there’s no telling what I’d do. After I fry your penis and balls then I might decide to go after all that hair on your chest.”

Dalton was convinced she just might do that. She had definitely shocked the hell out of him tonight. He wouldn’t care if he never got another blowjob ever again from any woman.

“Now get away from my car, Dalton.” He quickly did as she said, and she slid into the front seat and started the engine.

“Hey, give me my clothes, Sonya.”
