The town of Faireville and its neighboring city, Gasberg, are completely fictional. All the places and things described within these two places are products of the author's imagination.

The city of Toronto, however, despite occasional claims to the contrary, is real, and most of the places and things described within it are also real (except in a few cases where the author has bent reality to suit his fictional purposes).

All of the characters in the book are in fact characters, meaning that they are products of the author's imagination and do not exist in the real world.
