Chapter 18
Colt
First, my aunt gave me the third degree about someone spending the night. I was pretty darn sure she wasn’t going to let me leave the house this morning without giving her the girl’s name and social security number. Part of me wondered if Harvey had told her Savanna had been here last week.
Then, I get to the hole and Savanna told me how Tyler used to tell her about all of these women I had supposedly bedded. I was starting to think I couldn’t catch a break, until Savanna made all of my worries go away. When we were together, my only focus was her. She did somethin’ to me and I wasn’t about to let her go. Our relationship might be temporary, but I was going to make it memorable.
The more time we spent together, the more I admired about her. She was such a nice girl, who only wanted to be happy. She sacrificed everything for the people that she loved. She was misunderstood and mistreated, but somehow she claimed I made her forget about everything else. My problem was that she was getting under my skin more than any woman ever had. After one week, I was beginning to think that maybe there was something between Savanna and I that I needed to worry about. I was already crazy for her. What made it worse was that we weren’t strangers. We just weren’t close enough to know whom each of us really was, and the closer we were getting, the more we liked about each other.
An innocent agreement between two friends was becoming something more overnight. I wanted to touch her. Hell, I needed to touch her.
We made it to shore and had a lunch picnic style. I was doing all of these nice gestures, not even realizing it. A picnic lunch, grabbing towels to make her comfortable, saying all the right things, but when she was with me, I couldn’t help myself. It started out as protecting her, but it was already more than that. I really liked her.
We spent the afternoon laughin’ and foolin’ around. When the sun started to set, we lay on the blanket I brought and watched it. I held her hand and made sure her arm was touching mine. When it really started to get dark, we gathered our things and made our way back to the farm. At the woods edge, I looked in the farmhouse and saw my aunt and uncle sitting in the backroom in front of the television. They were headed to the hospital in the morning, so Savanna and I could ride the horses and not have to sneak around.
That’s exactly what we did too. I talked her into spending another night. Her mother was beginning to ask questions, but Savanna didn’t seem to care too much. That night we rode out to the old barn. We watched the stars and talked about the things we wanted in life. She had so much going for her, if she would just let herself live.
I wondered what would happen when I left in the fall. Would she go back to spending every second at that hospital? Would she want to still talk to me, maybe even come and visit me?”
We ended up sleeping in the hayloft at the old barn. It wasn’t the best night’s sleep, but waking up with something beautiful in your arms is pretty damn nice.
Savanna could turn a bad farmin’ day into the best day of the year. She made me smile like when it rained during a drought. Her sweet smile and innocent sense of humor were contagious. How could people not love her?
For the next few weeks, we spent all of our free time together. When I had to work, I thought about her every second. It wasn’t just the sex; in fact, I hardly thought about that when I thought about Savanna. Of course, I loved that the sex was pretty amazing, but I wanted to hear her voice and hold her in my arms. I missed her when she wasn’t around. Now, I was an adult and I knew exactly what those feelings amounted to. No matter how hard I tried to fight them, they just kept coming up. Every touch, every word, led to me wanting her in my life.
Savanna made me want something with a woman that I had never had before. She made me want a family. I’d had several dreams about us being married and having children together. Then I would wake up and realize that was the future she had saved for my cousin, not me.
She talked about him less, but she still loved him the same. It wasn’t like I was giving her hope that we could ever be more. I felt like I didn’t have a right to do that. Above everything else, I wanted her to be happy and to have the future that she deserved. If that future was to be with my cousin, then I wished her the best. It hurt like hell to think about, but it was the truth.
I never had a chance when it came to her choosing me. It would never happen. She confessed so much to me, there was no way she could ever love someone else. She had made it clear that he was her future. She would never let go of him.
Each night it didn’t stop me from holding her in my arms, wishing she was my future instead of his.
Chapter 19
Savanna
The next month went by faster than I wanted it to. During the day, Colt would work the farm with his uncle, while I went to work, stopped by the hospital, and even made my appointments with my shrink. We spent our evenings together either at the carriage house or at the old barn. When the weekends came, we had free reign over the farm. There was a mess of skinny-dipping and even more hot showers.
Being with Colt was an addiction. I no longer worried about hiding from people; in fact, we often headed to town and ate in public. We ran into a few younger kids at the old barn one night and it never bothered me. As long as I had Colt by my side, I didn’t care about anyone else.
He gave me a reason to smile every day. On nights that I couldn’t stay the night, we would talk for hours on the phone, like little teenagers. Everything about Colt was a breath of fresh air. He was kind and always made sure I was safe. He never questioned my feelings and I found myself wondering what my feelings for him really were. Was it possible that a summer fling had turned into something real between the both of us?
I wanted to tell him, to let him know how I felt.
I wanted him to know that I thought I was falling in love with him.
The idea of him having to leave in two months made me sad. I hated being without him for more than a day. I couldn’t imagine being without him completely. When I thought about it, I felt a hole in my heart that I recognized from before. I never wanted to feel that lost again. I couldn’t lose him too.
I planned it all out. Colt needed to work in the chicken houses one Saturday afternoon. There had been some fan malfunction and even his uncle and aunt stayed home from the hospital to get it fixed. While they did what they needed to do, I bought two big steaks, some potatoes, and a salad. I lit candles and cooked all of the food. After I finished, I headed into the bedroom and changed into the skimpiest little outfit I picked up in town, and then added my cowboy boots for a finishing touch. I sat there at the kitchen table waiting. The excitement of seeing him was killing me.
When Colt walked in the door, his mouth dropped open. It was dark in the room, but the candles illuminated it. He wasn’t looking at the table, the lighting, or even the food. His eyes were fixed on me.
I crossed my legs for an extra touch. “Hey,” I announced.
“Savanna.” That was all he said before heading in my direction. I stood up and turned around for him. “You look so hot.”
“Thank you, baby,” I said.
He kissed me then pulled away. “Did you call me baby?”
“I did. Actually, I wanted to celebrate. Are you hungry, because I got us two great steaks?”
He looked over the table, then back to me. “I’m starvin’.”
“Well, I made your favorites, so I hope I did them justice. Go wash up and I will make your plate,” I offered.
I was getting nervous. I wanted him to attack me with kisses, but he seemed a bit caught off guard at me calling him
baby
. I didn’t think it was a big deal, and I hoped he didn’t either.”
After ten minutes, Colt walked out from the shower in just a pair of shorts. His hair was still wet. He kissed me again before sitting across from me.
“You look beautiful and this food looks amazin’. Are you alright, darlin’?” he asked.
I smiled and started cutting my steak. “Actually, I am more than fine. I want to talk to you about something.”
Colt was in the middle of cutting his steak. His knife dropped on his plate, making a loud noise. “Are you pregnant?”
I gagged on my first bite of food. “No! I’m not. Is that what you thought this was about?”
He held up his hands. “Wait before you get all upset. Just for the record, I wouldn’t be mad if you were. We haven’t been very responsible lately. I mean, most of it is my fault, but you don’t help when you attack me like you do,” he laughed.
“I’m not mad. I am actually shocked you thought I would be dressed all sexy to tell you I was with child. That’s kind of screwed up, don’t you think?”
He smiled. “When you say it like that, it’s pretty jacked up. So what’s goin’ on?”
“Eat your dinner and then we can talk. I want you to enjoy every bite.”
He put his fork down and began chewing. “It tastes great. Thank you for cookin’. So, I gotta ask. Do I get to watch you take that little number off for dessert?”
His smile made me want to crawl across the table of food and candles and attack him. He was so damn sexy that I couldn’t control myself.
“Maybe if you eat all of your veggies,” I teased.
“I will lick the plate clean if I have to,” he noted.
“You can lick something,” I replied with a wink.
I watched Colt eat his food like a Neanderthal with all intentions of watching me rip off my clothes. I thought I was excited, but the idea of being naked with him made me so hot between my legs. I was on fire with anticipation.
He got up from the table and put his plate in the sink. He leaned against it watching me take the few last bites on my plate. I took my time, knowing it was driving him crazy. Once I finished, I walked slowly to the sink. When I started to wash the dishes, pretending I didn’t notice him waiting, he picked me up and carried me, only stopping to blow out the candles.
When he got me in the bedroom, he tossed me down on top of the bed. He climbed on top of me. His naked chest called out for my hands and I immediately felt every ripple of his stomach. I reached down and kissed his nipple, biting it before letting go. He cupped one of my breasts and used his teeth to pull at the fabric. The tiny bra hooked in the front and Colt took no time at all discovering that. He grabbed the bra and tossed it behind him. He found my lips and ravished me in a hungry kiss. As our tongues mingled, our kissing became so forceful that our teeth were touching. He only pulled away from my mouth to tease me with his tongue. I grabbed it with my lips and sucked on it hard.
“Woman, you are making me crazy,” he announced.
His mouth found mine again, but his hand traveled down between my legs. He cupped my sex and used his palm to rub against the sensitive spot at the top. I bucked my legs and he rubbed harder, never letting go of our kissing. Colt’s head dove for my neck and I could feel his slippery tongue lapping up my skin, heading toward my ear. His other hand cupped one of my breasts. Just when I was about to explode, he sat up and played with my panties. His fingers slid beneath them and I watched him watching what he was doing. He was turned on, steady licking his lips as he slid his fingers inside of my wetness.
I gasped when I felt myself losing control. The euphoric moment of ecstasy overwhelmed me. I closed my eyes and let it happen. The next thing I knew Colt’s lips found mine again. I grabbed both sides of his face and held him close. His hands found my waist and started pulling down my panties. I lifted up my butt so he didn’t fight with them. I wanted them off. My hands reached down and unbuttoned his pants. I used my feet to slide them down over his fine ass. When I reached down to feel his erection, I noticed it was already wet on the tip. Knowing he was already that turned on, made the fire between my legs get even hotter. The orgasm I had just moments ago was out of sight and a new one was building up. I turned my body around so that my butt was facing him. He started to position himself behind me, but slowly turned me back around.
“I don’t want it that way, Savanna. I want to see you. I need to look at you,” he confessed as he entered me. I entwined my legs into his as we began moving in sync. As he thrusted in and out of me, he continued kissing me all over my face and neck. I gripped my hands in his hair and pulled him into my aggressive kisses. When he started to climax, he put his head against mine and let out a moan. His lips rested over mine as he tried to calm his breathing.
I wrapped my arms around his broad shoulders. “Colt, I need to tell you something.”
He kissed me on my shoulder. “You can tell me anything.”
He slid out of me and lay beside me, stroking my hair. I reached up and touched his face. “I love you.”
Before he could respond, or I could say anything else, loud knocking came from the front door, followed by a bunch of yelling.
Colt sat up just when he heard the door opening. Guess he forgot to lock it.
“Colt,” his uncle called frantically.
“Coming,” he yelled, but it was too late.
“He’s awake, Colt. We need to get to the hospital right away. Did you hear me? Ty is -.” his uncle froze as he made his way to the bedroom door. His mouth dropped open when he saw me lying there naked in bed with his nephew.
If that wasn’t bad enough, his aunt came into the doorway. She came after me, before she even said a word. “You little tramp. My son was bad enough, but now you want my nephew? Colt, how could you be with such a little whore? You know what she has done? How long has this been going on?” she screamed.
Colt stood up while still buttoning his shorts. He walked toward his aunt and pushed them both out of the room without speaking. I could hear them screaming as I searched through my bag for normal clothes to wear. Within seconds, I made it to the living room.
“She’s not coming with us!” Ty’s mother yelled.
“I will drive separately then,” Colt threatened.
Ty’s dad just stood there shaking his head at me. Tears ran down my face, but I was speechless. I couldn’t deny being with Colt. For over a month, I had lived in his world.
Finally the older man spoke. “Get your things and follow us to the hospital. Whatever this was…it ain't happenin’ anymore. He’s never to know about this. Do you understand me Colton Mitchell? Savanna?”
I nodded my head before burying my hands into my face. I couldn’t look at Colt. I didn’t want to see him agreeing to never be near me again. As excited as I was about seeing Ty, it killed me to hurt Colt.
Ty’s parents walked out without saying a word and rushed to their car. To be a fly in that car would be worse than being in a warzone.
Colt and I climbed in the old pickup. By that time, I was bawling. I couldn’t help it. So much had just happened. Tonight was supposed to be about me letting go of Ty and finally committing to Colt. I wanted him to know how I felt. Instead, I confessed my feelings only to find out that Ty woke up. Almost like my confession to Colt made him wake up.
We had gotten about five miles before Colt said a word. I felt his warm hand reaching for mine. I didn’t hesitate taking it. I unhooked my seatbelt and climbed over to be next to him. He let me cry on his shoulder, but never mentioned what I said to him.
“Savanna, I’m not going to stop being your friend. You have to know that.”
I couldn’t look at him. I was so confused. Ty was awake. For the first time in a month, I reached in my purse and pulled out my bottle of Xanax. Colt looked over at me and smiled as I popped one small pill into my mouth and swallowed it dry.
“You gonna be alright, darlin’?”
I nodded my head yes and leaned back on his shoulder.
When we got into town, Colt leaned down to kiss the top of my head. He rubbed my shoulder and held me close, but still said nothing about my admission earlier. I was starting to feel calmer, but could feel my heart beating five hundred miles an hour the closer we came to the hospital.
Ty’s parents were already running inside as we pulled into the parking lot. I knew they were thrilled to have their son awake. I wanted to see him too. I just didn’t know exactly how to act or what to say.
Colt and I got out of the car. We kept our distance and said nothing until we got in the elevator. Before the door flew open, he pulled me back. He seemed stressed. “Savanna….I….I’m here for you.”
We rushed out of the elevator and headed toward Ty’s room. I started walking slow, but began to almost run. I didn’t look back to see Colt, maybe I should have, but I just couldn’t. I got to the doorway and saw him. He was sitting up. His mother and father at both of his sides. When he saw me, the world around us stopped.
“There’s my girl,” he announced.
I just stood there frozen in place. I couldn’t move.
