This peppery, salty, spicy tomato tonic will turn you into a modern-day warrior with a mean, mean

stride. Parsley lends its tumor-fighting abilities and also helps increase the antioxidant capacity of

the blood.

And if you’re a smoker (why would you be?), it also helps neutralize certain types of carcinogens. It’s

our fresher version of V8 that won’t leave you in a sodium coma.

Rad-ish Radish

Ingredients

2–3 kale leaves (remove stems)

¼ English cucumber

4 medium radish bulbs (with greens)

fresh ginger to taste

¼ cup water

Peel ginger root and juice all, adding more water if necessary.

The spiciness of the radish and ginger are only slightly cooled down by the cucumber. A great drink to

clear out the respiratory system or for those with seasonal allergies.

Add some bee pollen and double the allergy-fighting effects. You can even give it an Asian twist by

substituting daikon radish for the standard red bulb.

Cool Slaw

Ingredients

1 crown broccoli

½ small red cabbage

2 carrots

1 lemon (peeled)

1 green apple

ginger to taste

Peel ginger root and juice all. Serve over ice.

A fresh-tasting summer delight perfect for parties by the pool, barbecues, and picnics at the park.

Besides being the ideal accompaniment to any afternoon outside, Cool Slaw brings a lot to the picnic

table.

Broccoli’s cancer-fighting properties combat the carcinogens introduced to your meat from that

smokey grill. Ginger works to settle stomachs and has long been a remedy for heartburn from those

summer snacks. Serve with a few extra apples in your favorite punch bowl.

4 Carrot Gold

Ingredients

4 carrots

2 large kale leaves

1 bok choy bulb

1 golden apple

ginger to taste

Peel ginger root and juice all. Serve over ice.

Rich, I say, Rich! Rich in vitamins, color, and in flavor, that is. Adding apple has always been a great

way to balance out the grainy sweetness of carrots and still deliver the unbeatable shot of beta-

carotene you get from them.

Bok choy’s health-promoting compounds are better preserved when it is left uncooked, and what better

way to maximize these rich health benefits. Break out the blender and have yourself a gold rush.
