Chapter 42

Blake

BLAKE SHOOK HIS
head as he watched the exchange between Mila and Jace. The ass already knew exactly who she was. As Jace extended his hand to shake Mila’s, he warned, “Don’t even try it.”

“Fuck me.” Jace looked Mila up and down while she turned. “I’m Jace by the way, surely that doesn’t matter now as does me climbing this mountain with your sexy ass.”

Mila stared at Blake, her chest heaving. He could read her mind as their eyes latched onto each other. The dreamiest eyes in the world that haunted him for months.

Their relationship started with her running away… Mila had spurned him after their first night together. He assumed the woman who shunned his love would be reserved for those moments where he couldn’t help but think about failed challenges. Mila had been the hardest of them all. Getting through college while hustling as a hacker, marrying Diane, building a billionaire empire from the ground up—none of those tasks were as challenging as
her.

“How did you know I was here?”

“Lamb told us to postpone our climb yesterday. Then he sent me pin-drops for the last few hours. We’ve been on a wild goose chase. Lamb has been using this illegal system, I invented that the law refuses to pass, it has elements of stalking.” Blake shook his head. “Wait, that doesn’t even fucking matter, Mila? Why are you standing there?”

“I…” She froze. Here was the hardest part. A pivotal point in her life. Again, he read her body language. Though layers of clothing adorned the woman that once belonged to him, Mila’s pupils seemed to dilate with longing. “Blake, I’ve spent the last 24 hours thinking about all the things Diane put you through…”

In the end, Diane had a discrete court hearing at her request. In her mind, she wasn’t attempting to frame Blake for murder. She wanted to hold any one of his employee’s deaths over his head in the future so they couldn’t divorce. It wasn’t about the money. It was the principle. He believed her. And he also believed the bitch was hovering way out in oblivion, out of her fucking mind.

“Mila, you’ve fought me tooth and nail. All I’ve ever done was try to love you in the past.” Blake broke through the image of her stepping back into the restaurant with her father. She’d abandoned him.

Just like his mother, Mila left him with his heart on his sleeve.

Now they were in frigid air. This moment almost comparable to the winters in St. Louis, with his mother choosing the streets, or drugs, or even worse… pimping herself out for his father.

“Blake, baby, I was scared to give you my heart. Even still, you have become my best friend, Blake. I’ve told you my deepest darkest secrets, desires. You’re interwoven into every day of my life, Blake. The way you put me first, the way you’ve always loved me…”

He wanted to tell his crew to get lost, but Blake needed to hear these words. She’d hurt him to his core. All that bullshit about not giving a shit about what anyone thought. It was true, for the masses, Blake could care less about their opinion. But with Mila Ali, any notion in her mind, any manner in which she looked at him, he
once
took all of that to heart.

Her eyes slid across all of his friends, then back on him. “Blake, can’t you at least forgive me? That’s all I need.”

“Forgiven.”

She seemed to deflate even further. “Okay, okay, I get it. It’s too late. I’ve ruined us. Nobody on God’s green earth had the capability to come between us. I just didn’t trust you enough nor gave you the chance.”

He spoke, each syllable calculated to perfection. “Yeah, well, I did all I could to gain your trust, given the circumstances. But don’t you think the same apology could have been given by a phone call?”

“Blake, you sound as if you could give a fuck about me right now. Okay, I understand, I was stupid to come here. Even still, my mind is warped enough to believe that your voice is my favorite sound. The taste of your lips, has marinated in black maple bourbon you’re always drinking. I miss that.”

“Oh, you miss that?” Blake’s lips hardly moved. “You’re warped beliefs, eh?  Let me tell you what I once believed. You and your beauty, all of you were designed to belong to me. That you were so fucking magnificently fashioned by God that only I could adorn you with jewels, with trinkets to match your beauty.” He watched as Mila continued to sink before him. “But that is not the case, Miss Ali. None of my billions can embellish what you have. I still fucking love you, actually even more than I did on day one! You’re a serenity that—”

Mila leaped into his arms.

His crew began to clap and whoop.

“Yuck.” Jace clapped his hands. “Which one of these two were the mushiest?”

Mila’s warm body fit perfectly in Blake’s arms. “Damn it, Mila. The first thing I asked was why you were just standing there. All I wanted was a hug. Now the guys will be talking shit for decades to come.”

Blake held Mila at arm’s length. “Now we both aren’t entirely acclimated to this elevation. Let’s not go into another monologue. I just need to kiss those gorgeous fucking lips…”

Author’s Note
:

It took sheer willpower, on my part, not to make Blake Baldwin a murderer. Whew, I just had to say that! What a perfect literary device Bad Boy Billionaire Blake Baldwin… uhhh, maybe I’ve gone too far and that was just corny?
