"And,'’ he continued when they both needed to breathe once again, “we shall not wait. I have waited quite long enough."

"We must. The banns, the gowns, the wedding breakfast,” she said, twinkling up at him. “So much to do."

"I wrote to Doctor's Commons for a special license soon after I met you. I am well prepared. As for the rest, I wouldn't worry about gowns,” and he gave her a look that sent tremors down to her toes, “and anyone who is so rash as to appear at
our
front door can jolly well feed himself. At least for some time to come."

"Just so you keep me in bonnets, my dear."

"As long as that's all you desire."

Her giggle was lost in his embrace, and neither one heard the calls from the house.

It seemed that Miss Fairchild no longer need fear being left on the shelf.
