“Remain in the reception hall,” the duke told his guards. “Saxthor, you and your companions come with me.” He led the travelers back behind the throne and down the spiral staircase to the dungeon. Having the primary key to the secret staircase, he opened the door and led the men down to the sally port doorway.

“Remember to keep close to the rock face for a mile so the tower guards don’t see you. Good-bye and good luck!” The duke opened the door and let the travelers out onto Dreddrac’s plain beyond.

With that, Duke Jedrac closed the door, and Saxthor heard him turn the lock.
