(Jap., ‘doing by not doing’). Zen action which arises from deep enlightenment, and which is not intended or premeditated, but simply arises as the absolutely appropriate action in relation to the contingent circumstance.

in Zen Buddhism through the lineage of patriarchs (
soshigata
), and also a person in that lineage (see

).
