Prominent Muslim scholar, best known for his history of the world,

(Chronicle of Apostles and Kings). He also composed a vast commentary (

) on the

, in which he gathered together earlier exegesis on an equally large scale. It became a standard work of reference for later exegetes, and is used to the present day. He also founded a school of
shar
‘a
, known as Jariyya, but it was so close to the
Sh
fi‘ites
that it did not persist.
