Paul TherOUX was born in Medford, Massachusetts, in

1941 and published his first novel, Waldo, in 1967. His

subsequent novels include Fong and the Indians, Girls at:

Play, Jungle Lovers, The Black House, The Family Arsenal,

Picture Palace (winner of the Whitbread Prize for

Fiction), The Mosquito Coast, Saint Jack, My Other Life

(written as a companion piece to the bestselling My

Secret History), and, mosf recently, Kow/oon Tbng.

Theroux has also published numerous bestselling travel

books, including The Great Railway Bazaar, The

Kingdom By the Sea, The Old Patagonian Express, The

Happy isles of Oceania, and The Pillars of Hercules.

Theroux divides his time between Cape Cod,

Massachusetts, and Hawaii.
