She bit her lip and shot a look back down the hall again. “Judging by the signs, the couples floor?”
“Technically, they’re honeymoon suites,” he informed her with a nod and then gestured to the impressive doors in front of them. “This is the best one though.”
She nodded, trying to absorb the information. “OK, is this where you are staying?” He had booked a room for them just to carry out his sneaky appearance? Well, she couldn’t exactly put it past his usual theatrics.
He glanced expectantly at her. “So?”
“So?” she stared blankly at him.
“Do you have my gift?”
The key! Her mouth dropped open as she let out a small gasp. “It’s in my clutch!” Her evening bag was wedged underneath her arm, the only place she could secure it during their mad dash with handcuffs on.
He slid it from underneath her arm and pawed through it quickly. “Got it!” he announced with a little cheer and unlocked the door. Her eyes widened as the doors swung open.
“Wow,” the room was massive. He abandoned her clutch near a fine armchair by the bathroom door. Her heels clattered softly over the glittering white marble tile floor. The walls were crimson red with cream silk banners hanging on them next to perfectly dimmed crystal light fixtures. Against the most lavish looking wall was a massive bed with luxurious white bedding.
“You like it? I made them decorate it to my taste at the very end. It was a rush job. They didn’t let me put in an in-floor hot tub like I wanted either.”
She bit back any sarcastic quip as she marveled at the room. It seemed to glitter with enticing promise. She felt the weight of her handcuffs against her wrists with an excited shiver. “It’s beautiful.”
“The bed is even better,” he purred. He grabbed her gently but firmly and led her over to the bed. She noticed a basket of red wine and an assortment of other gifts wrapped beautifully in glossy paper on the nightstand. It was just then that she noticed the mirrors on the wall across from the bed. She smiled.
“Your design choice, I’m guessing?” she tried to look cool, gesturing to the mirrors with her handcuffed hands. He smirked.
“I love a view,” he replied. “I figured you would too.”
She smiled. He wasn’t wrong. His fingers wrapped around her wrist and he motioned to the bed. She settled herself on the edge and looked down at the handcuffs around her wrist.
“I can’t touch you like this,” she said with a pout. His wicked grin widened.
“No, you can’t,” he mused and sat beside her, “can you?” She felt her cheeks warm. He was teasing her. He was
always
teasing her.
“I want to touch you,” she mumbled. He leaned his head on her shoulder.
“This is revenge for all your witty comebacks. You’ve been a bit of a hit to my self-esteem, love.”
She snorted. “Highly doubtful.”
“There it is,” he said with amusement. “Ooh, I love that wit.” She squirmed underneath him. He always had a way of making her feel utterly flustered. She stared at the handcuffs around her wrists, her hands lying in her lap.
“How will I get my clothes off?” her question earned a dark chuckle from her companion.
“Oh, darling. That’s my job,” he stood up swiftly and strode over to the table. There were two wine glasses next to the bottle of wine and basket. He began opening the bottle. “Would you like a glass?”
“Yes, please,” she rarely said please to him, but there was an odd air of sexy authority around him. She saw the corner of his mouth quirk upwards as he poured the wine into the glass. He replaced the cork and strode over to her.
“Do you want a drink?” he asked.
She nodded and made an attempt to reach towards the glass, but he pulled it away.
“No, no,” he chided. “You’re a bit tied up. Let me.” She felt her heartbeat quicken as he stood in front of her, her face right in front of his standing form. How easy it could be to reach out and grope him here, but she supposed she could wait.
He lifted the glass. “I like it when you say please, you know.”
She quirked one eyebrow upward and tilted her head to one side. “Am I supposed to be playing the naughty pet?”
His face transformed into an expression of smoldering desire that she wasn’t prepared for. She felt her heart jump into her throat. Her tongue ran over her lips.
“I could do that…for you,” she told him.
The silence passing between them was electric. His eyes ran over her, devouring her greedily. She was grateful for the plunging neckline of her dress, which she knew at this angle was giving him a world of a view.
If he wanted to play a game, she could play along. She stuck her bottom lip out just a bit and leaned forward towards him, her mouth just a foot away from his groin.
“Please,
sir
.”
He loved it. She could see it in his glittering eyes. He ran one finger up her neck to her chin and held it adoringly. She fluttered her eyes innocently. He leaned the glass toward her lips and she tilted her head back slowly as he began to slowly pour some of it into her mouth.
With a shift of her bottom lip, she purposefully let some wine spill over the side of the glass and down her neck to her breasts to leave a faint red line.
“Oops,” she whispered.
“I’ll get that for you, love,” he told her, draining the rest of the glass and quickly setting it on the table again. She leaned further onto the bed as he rested one knee in between her slightly splayed legs. His head dipped down and he ran his tongue, sucking lightly from her neck down into her cleavage. Her breasts begged to be touched, but he barely brushed them with fingers. Instead, he began to trace his way back agonizingly with only the lightest of kisses on her skin until he finally placed one gently on her lips. She let out a little moan.
“You made it sound like I couldn’t handle this,” she said.
“We haven’t even started.”
He was on her in an instant. She felt her thoughts, her bones, her soul melt away.
“I’m glad you decided not to punch me in the face,” Ben told the Captain over brunch. “You know, this is Grade A face material.”
Robert rolled his eyes. “Did we invite him to our goodbye brunch? Vivian, you can’t bring pets to the table.”
She stifled a laugh behind her hand and tossed a head of curls. “I apologize, Captain. I just felt so bad leaving him in the room.”
“Speaking of which,” Alex chimed in beside them with a dark look towards his brother, “I just received the bill you cleared to decorate that suite at the last minute. Do you have any concept of money, Ben?”
“I love it. That’s a concept,” Ben replied smoothly and adjusted the tie around his neck. She stared at the handsome lines of his jaw. He caught her eye and she turned away with pink cheeks.
“You two should just have had breakfast in bed,” Alex muttered with a little groan.
“I don’t eat where I make love, brother.”
“Too much information, Ben!”
“They really haven’t changed at all,” Robert informed her in a hushed whisper as they watched the two brothers bicker across from them. “Just like in school. Well, they’re a bit uglier now, I suppose.”
Ben caught wind of the last bit. “Uglier? I improve with age. I’m a fine wine.”
“You’re country moonshine at best,” Alex said sharply and elbowed him with a boyish grin.
She let out a small chuckle while glancing over the pair. “I love it all the same.”
“She loves me is what she means,” Ben declared and scooted his chair closer towards her. “A whole lot. Right, Viv?”
She sighed. “Yes, Ben. Whatever you say.”
“Careful, you should discipline a dog better than that or else they misbehave,” Robert said with a snicker. Ben’s eyebrows waggled suggestively.
“She loves it when I misbehave.”
“Ugh,” Alex feigned vomiting, “Too much disgusting talk in the early morning. I won’t be able to eat.”
Ben shot a look at the already emptied plate in front of his brother. “I’m surprised you didn’t inhale the plate too.”
“I’m on vacation!”
“Oh, I’m sure Adriana would love to hear that.”
“You’re the worst.”
“The worst brother maybe, but the best lover.”
“STOP!” with a disgusted little howl, Alex hopped up and bounded towards the bathroom. Ben let out a loud bark of laughter and Vivian felt her cheeks warm as she buried her face in her hands.
“I cannot go out in public with you,” she moaned into her palms.
He kissed her cheek. “Nonsense, I bring the party.”
“You bring the trouble,” she corrected him. He either didn’t hear her or chose to ignore that information, because he turned to Robert suddenly.
“Wait, did the operation go successfully? I was so busy last night I forgot to ask,” he admitted. Robert nodded solemnly.
“As good as it could’ve gone, I suppose,” the Captain said softly. She looked back and forth between them.
“What are you talking about?”
You can’t just talk about a secret mission in front of a woman who prides herself on research and being prepared.
She leaned towards them with a frown and furrowed brow.
Ben hesitated, but reached out to hold her hand tightly on the table. “We had a bit of an incident with someone.”
“An incident?” her eyes widened, images conjuring up like small storms in her brain. “What type of incident?”
“Well, you actually know of the man, somewhat. Alex told me he was scaring you the first few days.”
“That man! The creep!” her loud shout drew concerned looks from neighboring tables.
Whoops.
“Yes, the creep,” Ben said darkly. She saw his jaw tighten and then relax. “He has been quite the bother to our family actually.”
“He didn’t make it back from our stop on the last island though,” Robert added triumphantly.
“You kicked him off? Did you prove something?”
“It wasn’t quite that legitimate,” Ben admitted after a moment. “It was more… off the record than that.”
“Ben hired a few
associates
to keep him from returning onboard in time.”
Her jaw dropped. “Ben! They didn’t hurt him, did they?”
“Your heart’s too soft. No, of course not. I’m not a monster. But, that guy is,” his voice dropped to a disgusted tone at the last part. She shivered and ran her hands up and down her arms.
“He gave me the creeps!”
“He was spying on you,” he told her. She gasped.
“What?! What on Earth for?!”
“I don’t know,” her lover admitted. “I’m having someone investigate right now. Alex called in a few favors to associates we have within the man’s company. He’s fairly low-level, but he has given us trouble before. You know, documents disappearing when he’s around for business meetings and such.”
“I had Alex’s notes with me all the time,” she muttered absentmindedly and played with the glass of ice water in front of her.
Could it have been that?
She wondered. He had definitely been interested in her. But for what? She didn’t have any company secrets.
