“Jenna, could you get Mason a bottle?” I wasn’t sure I was going to let Aimee feed him. I wasn’t very impressed with her and her excuses. She spent her pregnancy with a guy who wasn’t Mason’s father and then she left her son when she hopped into the next dude’s bed.

“Sure.” Jenna moved toward the kitchen. “I’ll be right back.”

“Thank you,” Aimee said. “I’ve missed him so much.”

“I’ve filed for full custody.” I pointed to the packet on the coffee table. “That envelope is for you.”

“You want Mason to live with you?”

“He already does.”

“What does that mean for me?”

“My attorney can work out visitation for you.” Supervised, of course. I couldn’t take the chance that she’d run with Mason. “Obviously, I don’t want child support so we don’t need to worry about that. The legal proceedings won’t be very complicated provided you don’t fight me. If you’re planning to challenge me I suggest you obtain a lawyer.”

“I can’t afford that.”

You can’t win anyway.

“He’s better off here. You have to know that.”

“Why, because you have more money than I do?”

“That’s part of it, but the bigger part is I can’t trust you with him. You’ve already left him for a guy. You put your personal life ahead of the needs of my son.”

Our
son,” she clarified. “And I told you I was overwhelmed.”

“What’s to say that won’t happen again?”

Jenna came back onto the family room with a fresh bottle, but didn’t give it to Aimee. She looked to me for direction.

“Please.” Aimee held out her hand. “I can do it.”

I nodded at Jenna. There was no harm in letting Aimee feed him before she left. Jenna gave Aimee the bottle and the burp cloth before turning to me

“I’ll be upstairs if you need me,” she said.

Hell!
It was probably too hard for her to watch Aimee and Mason together. I had wanted her with me to calm me and make sure I didn’t lose my temper, but that had been a selfish request. One I’d have to make up for later.

“Okay.” I didn’t argue with her as I leaned in and kissed her cheek. “I won’t be long.”

“Take your time.” Jenna glanced in Mason’s direction, but again Aimee acted as if Jenna wasn’t even in the room. That didn’t sit well with me. Jenna deserved to be treated with respect especially by Aimee.

Once Jenna left the room Aimee seemed to relax. “You two are really together?”

“We are.”

“When did you decide you didn’t want to be single anymore?” The skepticism in her voice didn’t go unnoticed.

“It was bound to happen.” Enough with the small talk. “About custody?”

“What do you want me to say?” She popped the nipple of the bottle into Mason’s mouth. “You want me to give him up? Walk away?”

“Seriously?” Wasn’t that what she’d already done? “It wouldn’t be the first time.”

“I told you I made a mistake. You have no idea what it’s like being tossed into parenthood.”

“Yeah, I kind of do. At least you had nine months to prepare.”

“You have money and help. I had nothing.”

“You chose to go that route. For a guy, two, for that matter.” The more I thought about her decision making and her ability to put Mason second to her needs the more I realized there was only one option for him and it wasn’t her. “You could have come to me and we could have worked it out.”

“Would you have stayed with me?”

God, no!
Now that I had Jenna I couldn’t imagine life with anyone other than her. “I can’t answer that.” I gazed into Mason’s eyes, noticing they were fixated on me.
Don’t worry, little guy, I’m not going anywhere.
“We weren’t compatible.” I didn’t want to be a jerk because the truth of the matter was, I probably would have tried to make it work if she had come to me when she was pregnant. It wouldn’t have lasted. She was too young for me. We were never meant to be a couple. “I can’t say what would have happened.”

“Now can you say?”

“What do you mean?” Mason stretched out his hand for me. “I’ll burp him.” I scooped him up and rested him on my shoulder, patting his back as I waited for Aimee’s response.

“Now that you know we have a child together do you think...” She bit her thumb nail. “Is there a chance we could try to make it work?”

“Between us?”

She nodded. “For Mason?”

Don’t play that card.
“I’ll do everything in my power to make sure he has everything he needs. He’ll be happy, safe and loved. We don’t have to be a couple for that to happen.”

“Wouldn’t it be better for him if we were together?”

“I’m already in a relationship.”

“I don’t believe you’re committed to Jenna and if you are capable of such a thing, it should be with me.”

“This conversation is over.” I moved to the foyer. “My mother is my attorney. Maya Barton. She’ll be in contact with you. I want to be fair. You’re his mother. I’ll make sure you’re taken care of.” I wouldn’t deny the tremendous amount of rage directed toward her, but she was still my son’s mother and I would provide for her. I would never want my kid to look me in the eyes one day and accuse me of mistreating his mom. “We’ll work out an arrangement that is suitable for Mason, but to be clear, he will remain with me.”

“You can’t bully me because you have money.”

“This has nothing to do with my financial status. This is about making the right choices for him. If you can’t see that then you don’t deserve him. He’s my responsibility. I’ll never do wrong by him.”

“Kyler, please.” She stepped toward me, reaching for Mason. “I’ve missed him so much.”

“According to the report from my P.I. you’ve been traveling with your ex-boyfriend and his family. No wonder I couldn’t find you. Hawaii is fantastic this time of year, isn’t it?”

“Is it a crime to need a break?”

“You’re not fit to be his full-time caregiver.” I opened the front door. “Don’t make this difficult for all of us.”

“I don’t want to,” she said. “I’ve been doing so much thinking and I really want us to be a family. I screwed up. I should have come to you sooner. You’re a good dad. I can be a good mom too, with your help.”

“I’ll help you,” I vowed. “Whatever it takes for you to get on your feet, I’ll provide it. I’ll give you every resource necessary.”

“You’d do that but you don’t want to be with me?”

“That’s never going to happen,” I assured her. “Even if I wasn’t with Jenna, we’re not right for one another. We can raise Mason amicably. You just have to work with me.”

“We didn’t have a fair chance,” she said. “We were only together a few weeks.”

“You’ve been with two more guys after me even when you knew you were pregnant with my child. Clearly I wasn’t right for you either.” If I had been the one she wanted wouldn’t she have come to me when she realized I had gotten her pregnant?

“I didn’t think you wanted to be a dad, but now after I see you with him I realize I was wrong.”

“You can come back and see him tomorrow if you’d like.” Keeping Mason from her wasn’t something I wanted to do. I just didn’t want her to have custody. “Think about what I said. You have to know he’s better off with me. You’re in no position to care for him the way he should be.”

“I would never leave him again.”

“That’s something you’re going to have to prove to me and him.”

“How?”

“Give it time.” I nodded. “Maybe that will work.”

It
had been a few days since Aimee had made her come back. She stopped by for a few hours each day, and when she did I made myself scarce because I couldn’t help but feel envious of her. She was Mason’s mother. She had rights even if she had made some stupid mistakes. It wasn’t my job to judge, but it was difficult not to. I kept telling myself she was young and afraid. That was the only way I could justify her leaving that precious baby.

I tucked Mason into his crib and popped the pacifier into his mouth. He’d taken a liking to it at night. It seemed to soothe him and help him sleep. After I switched on the monitor, I gazed into the crib again.

“Good night, my sweet angel baby.” As I kissed his head he closed his eyes, no longer able to fight sleep. “I love you.”

I turned off the lamp by the door and quietly made my way down the hall. When I reached our bedroom, I found Kyler stretched out on the bed, lost in whatever he was reading on his tablet. I admired his taut muscles and lean frame. He’d rid himself of his clothes, treating me to the view of nothing but him and his boxer briefs. Drool worthy!

I slipped off my shorts, leaving me in my panties and tank top before crawling into bed to join him. It had been a stressful week with Aimee back in town and we hadn’t been intimate in a few days. Kyler had been working non-stop on the New York gyms and he’d picked up a huge deal for Team Ky to get its own fitness line of clothes. He had to go to New York. He’d already put the trip off once this week, and that was weighing heavily on his mind. Adding Aimee to the mix only complicated his life, but his mom told him not to worry. She would handle everything. Aimee still wasn’t on board with Kyler having full custody, but he and his mother were never going to negotiate anything less. Part of me felt bad for her because I couldn’t imagine not being with my baby on a full-time basis. Then there was the other part, the one I hoped wasn’t coming from a selfish place, but Mason belonged with Kyler. I knew it in my heart. Felt it in my soul.

“Busy?” I asked.

“Never too busy for you.” He closed his tablet and set it on the nightstand. “Did he go right down?”

“Yes.” I rested my head in his lap, looking up at him. “Bedtime has been effortless. My dad says we’re lucky.”

“He’s so content.” He ran his fingers through my hair, massaging my scalp. “I had hoped Aimee would see that by coming here. She doesn’t have the resources to fight me. Why can’t she make this easy for everyone?”

“You think she has another motive?”

“I do.” He gazed down into my eyes. “She’s never going to get what she wants.”

“You?”

He nodded.

“She wants the three of you to be together.” Of course she did. If I were Mason’s mother that was what I’d want. “That makes sense.”

“For who?” His thighs tensed beneath my neck. “We were never a couple. Our relationship was based on a lie when she didn’t tell me how old she was. She was nothing but sex for me. She hid her pregnancy because she wanted to be with her high school boyfriend. When that didn’t work out she moved on to the next guy. She spent two months acting as if Mason hadn’t existed. When that relationship failed she came back. Now she wants to be with me. She’s out of her fucking mind if she thinks...” He rubbed his temple. “I don’t want to talk about her. I just need her to agree to full custody and then we can go about working out a visitation schedule. My mother said it will be easier if we can get her to agree. No one wants a long, drawn out fight.”

“She’s staying with friends.” How did this irresponsible girl think she would be able to care for her child? “She’s not in any position to provide for him.”

“If she agrees to my terms I’m going to set her up. She’s my son’s mother. I’ll make sure she has everything she needs. I’m going to offer to pay for her education so she can make something of herself.”

“That’s generous of you.”

“What choice do I have? If she succeeds it’s better for Mason. Once she’s stable in a house and a good job she sets a better example for him.”

“You’ve thought this through.”

“I haven’t slept a solid night since she returned. I’m irritated and unsettled. I just want this resolved so we can move forward.”

“It will all work out.” I reached up and traced his lips, smiling when his jaw relaxed. “You’ll see.”

“I saw the papers you left in my study.”

“You don’t have to worry about those now.” My fertility issues were the least of his problems. “I wanted to give them to you before I chickened out.”

“You don’t need to be afraid.” He kissed my fingertips. “I’ll find a way to give you a baby when the time is right.”

“You already have.” Sitting up, I faced him. “Mason isn’t mine but the bond I have with him is more than I ever thought I could have with a child.” I had no right to get so attached to that baby, but now that I had I couldn’t imagine my life without him. Without Kyler.

“You belong with us.” He placed his hand on my cheek, drawing me closer to him. “Don’t ever leave us.”

“That’s not an option.” I moved into his lap, straddling his waist. “I can’t be without you.”

“The only place I’m going...” He slipped his tongue inside my mouth as his hands explored underneath my shirt. “Is inside you.”

“Smooth, Billionaire Daddy.” Laughing as I lifted my tank top over my head.

“Billionaire Daddy, are you trying to be kinky?” He nipped at my lip. “Cause it might be working.”

“No.” I rocked against his crotch, experiencing his arousal. “That’s your new online title. People took pictures of us at the baseball game the other day.”

“Did Mason have his Team Ky shirt on?”

“Ah, huh,” I moaned when he swirled his tongue around my nipple.

“Publicity is good but you know what’s better?”

“What?”  When he tugged my panties down, I helped take them off.

“Fucking you.”

“Let’s get to it.” Gripping the sides of his boxers, I pulled them down as he wiggled out of them.

“I like when you’re eager.” He slithered his hands up my thighs as he rested against the headboard. “I’m all yours.”

“Perfect.” I took his length in my hand and plunged down. “Oh...” Shivering as I engulfed him in my wet heat, savoring the sensation that only he could create. “Kyler.” I moved my hips at a feverish pace, trying to relieve the nagging between my legs, but he held me still.

“Slow.” He feathered kisses along my neck. “No rush tonight.”

Didn’t he know how much I needed him?

“See.” He tilted his pelvis, raising me up. “I can worship you when we’re like this.” Taking his time, he thrust his hips as he caressed my neck and throat. “Show you how much I want you. How much you mean to me.”

“You’re my air.” I clasped my fingers with his, meeting each of his upward thrusts with an unhurried downward motion. The ache in my core intensified as he brushed his mouth along my jaw.

“The idea of you...” He nipped my bottom lip. “Most days I feel like I can’t exist without you.”

“I know what you mean.” I closed my eyes and focused on the way he captivated my entire body. There wasn’t an ounce of my flesh that didn’t burn from the hot desire he caused to flow through me. “You calm my crazy.”

Flipping me onto my back, he hitched my leg over his hip and entered me again. This time with more force, deeper, harder, faster...

“Jenna,” he whispered.

I wrapped my legs around him, reaching back, I gripped the spindles of the headboard. The heights he took me made me wild with an unbridled desire that was reserved for him alone. The more he took the more I wanted to give. He had claimed me weeks ago. Each time we became one I surrendered again. I would give into him every night for the rest of my life.

The pulsing between my legs escalated, building to a blissful crescendo. When Kyler leaned down, asserting his powerful hold over me as he captured my lips with his, my body could take no more. Quivering beneath him, I sighed long and low. As I released a sense of clarity came over me. Looking into his eyes as his face tightened I knew one thing for certain. I belonged with this man. He held my heart. Owned my soul. And had my love.

“Baby...” He collapsed, letting go as he sunk into me, filling me with his raw desire. His energy streaming inside me, making me whole, complete and his.

While his breaths were still erratic, I took his face between my hands and kissed him. “You were right.”

“I’m always right but just to clarify.” He pressed his forehead to mine. “What was I right about?”

“Slow can be amazing.”

“When it comes to you everything is amazing.” He stroked my cheek. “Everything.” He rolled onto his back, pulling me into his side as I draped my arm over his chest. “I’m never letting go of you. I’m falling hard. I hope you know that.”

“I know,” I whispered. “I’m right there with you.”

***

Kyler had taken Mason to visit his mom, so I decided to sort through the packages both of our mothers had sent over in the past few weeks. Mason was going to be the best dressed kid in the neighborhood. I had washed and folded all of his new clothes and neatly organized them into his dresser drawers.

I glanced around the sports themed nursery, taking in all the vibrant blues and greens. When I’d first arrived this room had been decorated in neutral colors and had housed a large cherry bedroom set for guests. Kyler had hired an interior designer to come in and transform it into the perfect haven for Mason. When I became Mason’s nanny I remembered how overwhelmed Kyler had been. Thrown into fatherhood without any warning and left to his own devices. He’d shown his character when he accepted Mason without any conditions or limitations, proving to be a true man never once putting anything before his baby. As busy as his job was, I’d seen him put work aside to satisfy his little guy. Mason would be just fine. He had an outstanding father who set a wonderful example.

“Hello,” a voice called from the foyer.

Aimee? I came out of Mason’s room and peered over the railing to find the pretty blonde standing in the foyer. Her wide blue gaze took in her surroundings and I wondered what she was doing here. Kyler had asked her not to show up unannounced, but she wasn’t very good at following directions.

“I didn’t hear you come in.” I hurried down the stairs annoyed that she had let herself in. “Have you been here long?”

“Just a few minutes.” When she headed toward the hallway I quickly stopped her.

“They’re not home.” I hoped she would leave. I wasn’t up for small talk with her. She never acknowledged my presence and tried hard to unsuccessfully flirt with Kyler any chance she got. I was over it.

“I came to see you.”

“Really?” She hadn’t so much as looked in my direction since coming back into Mason’s life. “Why?” I didn’t do a god job of hiding my surprise.

“You seem to care about my son.”

“I do, very much.” Was she going to thank me for stepping in and doing what she should have been doing all these weeks?

“I’m hoping you’ll see things my way.”

“If this is about persuading Kyler to give you custody, I can’t help. I happen to agree that Mason belongs here.”

“I’m leaning that way myself.”

“You are?” That was a shock.

“I see how happy Mason is. Kyler takes really good care of him and wants what’s best for him. I want that too.”

“Good.” I didn’t know what brought this change in her attitude about, but I was glad she finally put Mason first. “Kyler will be pleased.”

“Maybe.”

Now what?

“I’ve been observing some things while I’ve been here.” She leaned against the foyer table. “This is a great house, isn’t it?”

“Beautiful.”

“Lots of space and unexplored places. I bet Kyler doesn’t even know how many entrances and hidden treasures are in here.”

“I don’t know.” What an odd statement to make. The house was really big and Kyler didn’t use most of it. Was she proposing she move in? That was never going to happen. I wanted her out. She gave off a strange vibe and I wasn’t in the mood to put up with her.

“These past couple weeks have been enlightening. Very informative.”
