In 1978, Betty and Bob heard a whirring sound above their house. Concurrently, both were lifted out of their bodies and, along with others, entered a huge round amphitheater-like enclosure. They were greeted by tall, robed human-looking entities. They found themselves on a high walkway that surrounded the enclosure. Bob was separated from Betty. He was told that he was not as spiritually advanced as Betty and was held to wait for her. During that time he received answers to many questions that he asked an alien who guarded him. Betty, on the other hand, was allowed to participate with a number of light beings in a fantastic procedure that changed her and them into
balls of light
and back to their
light-being
form.

During this abduction, Betty glanced down to the floor below and gasped. She saw two daughters and Bob's daughter on tables being examined by aliens. She was so troubled by what she saw that the hypnotist had her temporarily forget what she saw. They were returned to their bodies and had no idea of what had just happened to them.

The hypnosis sessions continued. In 1981 and 1982, strange figures were seen momentarily in their bedroom at night. In 1984, Betty saw shadowy figures in her kitchen while watching TV. She became paralyzed and blind, and felt something penetrate her head. In 1986, while reading her Bible on a couch, an alien suddenly appeared. Betty came out of her body and was taken to a strange place.

In 1987, a punch biopsy–like scoop mark appeared on the calf or her right leg. Three similar marks forming a triangle appeared on her right arm on August 14, 1988. I mention the specific date because on August 17, 1988, I received the same type scoop mark above the shin of my right leg. My personal physician was puzzled by its appearance and sent me to a dermatologist. He at first dismissed it as a recent punch biopsy and wondered why I had come to him. When I explained to him that I never had a punch biopsy, he, too, was puzzled. He told me that it looked like one and that the mark was made recently. I would add that these scoop marks are typically found by abductees after their abduction experience. The night before mine appeared, I dreamed that someone was operating on my leg!

The importance of bringing the Phase III experiences to the attention of UFO researchers and the public set me to writing yet another book about them. I entitled it
The Watchers

The revelation that other members of Betty's family were also being abducted in one way did not come as a surprise. The abduction phenomenon now is well known to be a
family affair
perhaps taking place over many generations. I hoped that, sometime in the future, I would be able to look into their experiences.

After the Phase III investigation, I knew that there was much left undone. During my earlier enquiry, Bob refused further hypnosis after reliving his 1944 and 1967 experiences. These memories had terrified him. In fall 1992, Bob finally agreed to be hypnotized. Betty and Becky (Betty's daughter) also were agreeable to hypnotic regression sessions so another follow-on investigation was launched.

Hypnosis sessions with Bob took place between November 6, 1992 and April 1994. The sessions with Betty, Bob, and Becky took place between November 1993 and February 1994. Summaries of their experiences follow.

Bob had written a letter to me about having a memory of being up in the sky looking down at scenery below him. Under hypnosis Bob
remembered being in sixth grade in 1950. He was in bed, having stayed home from school because of a cold. He heard a buzzing sound and a light appeared in the darkened room. A small gray alien in red clothes appeared. He was taken out of his body and floated above the ground to a craft in the sky. They entered the craft through an opening in the bottom. He was returned the same way.

During follow-on sessions Bob remembered his mother telling him that she once saw a strange craft on the ground and remembered being inside. She was adamant about not being hypnotized. She did not want to know anything more about the incident. This was most interesting because Bob's next abduction experience included his mother and father. It took place at night from his bedroom. While awake, he heard his parents shut off their TV and suddenly found himself with his father in a strange, empty room. Then he spotted his mother. He watched as gray entities examined his parents. Then he remembered himself and his parents going down a dark hall, and he suddenly found himself back in bed.

Bob's next remembered encounter took place at night in winter 1989 at Laccochee, Florida, while visiting friends. He awoke suddenly when a bright red light shone through the bedroom window. His bed shook. One of the gray entities in a blue, skintight outfit appeared. Bob became very agitated. He could not move. The entity forced Bob to drink some liquid, which calmed him. He was then taken right through the wall to a craft. He was brought to a white, bright room and made to lie on a table. His eyes were examined by a pencil-shaped object that projected a bright, blue light. A helmet was placed on his head. It projected a picture of the earth with dark spots on the planet. They asked if he understood what this meant. Bob did not but was told that he would understand in time. He then was floated from the craft through the wall of his friend's house and placed back in bed.

Bob also told us about a dream that he had in 1993 where he was abducted to meet an alien-like
child
. When told to go back to the source of his dream, he found himself back in the craft where he had been abducted in 1967. During Bob's initial hypnosis he had forced himself not to remember several additional things that had occurred. One was that the
red-suited entities had extracted sperm from Bob, which left a rash that his doctor could not explain. The other event was a strange-looking
child
being brought to him and being told that it was partly his.

“
It was short.… He didn't have any hair…and had gray skin…and a little, small nose.”

Bob became very emotional while gazing at the child. It looked at him longingly as if it wanted to go with Bob. Bob felt very sad when the aliens then took the child away.

During the November 6, 1992 hypnosis session Betty was drawn out of their trailer against her will. Outside she saw a large, hovering ball of blue light and suddenly found herself inside of it. Next she found herself in a room with three gray entities. One had a clear hood on his head. A similar hood was placed on Betty. It covered her head and shoulders. She was made to stand on a round area of the floor containing orifices. A liquid bubbled out of the orifices and filled the room. The hood allowed Betty and the alien to breathe. Betty found her head feeling heavier and heavier. The liquid emptied and Betty was brought to another room. A tiny blue light that had accompanied Betty initially appeared once again. The hood was removed and her head felt normal again. Betty was taken out of the craft with the blue light following her. It was misty outside. She was amazed to find herself back in the Crystal Forest that she had experienced during her abduction at age 13. Betty was placed in the large blue sphere again and taken to a landed round metal craft. She was told that she was going to be taken to a very
high place
.

It was a very high place. Betty was standing near a one-way window and saw a pitch-black sky dotted with tiny lights. The two aliens that accompanied Betty informed Betty that she was going to meet someone who wanted to talk with her. During the hypnosis session, Betty suddenly stopped talking and gasped. Even with her eyes closed, the expression on her face showed utter amazement. We wondered what in the world she was looking at. We soon found out that what she saw was definitely not in the world—far from it.

“Ah-h-h, it's a thing up in there in the darkness, and it's huge. Oh, we're coming up to something that is big—really, really big hanging in space. We're just moving closer and closer to this long thing.”

Later, Betty drew a picture of what astonished her. It depicted a gigantic tube-shaped vessel floating against a jet-black backdrop punctuated by hundreds of stars. It dwarfed the craft that carried her! The huge ship had a metal-capped transparent enclosure in front that contained many red and white lights. Within the enclosure Betty could see three protruding, tongue-shaped tiers. The ship itself was girdled by three rotating rings.

As they approached the front of the craft, Betty described something that opened to let them in. She found it similar to the sectioned diaphragm that let out steam in an appliance used to steam vegetables. It reminded me of a camera's diaphragm that opened to let in light to expose film and then closed. Other small craft could be seen resting in indented bowl-like berths on the tiers. The craft Betty was in flew inside to rest in one of them.

Betty gazed in amazement out the one-way looking window. She saw a tall, human-like person with long white hair to his shoulders. He was dressed in a long white robe and approached the craft. This type of entity was called an Elder. She had seen such persons during her teenage experience just before she entered the Great Door to see The One. Betty was taken out of the craft and the tall, Nordic-appearing person called an Elder motioned the trio to follow him. Betty was surprised that she was actually walking, as usually she was floated along.

During her time in the huge mother ship, Betty learned the use of the red animals that she had seen in a red-lit enclosure during her 1967 experience. The worn-out eyes of the gray Watchers were replaced by newly grown eyes removed from the red creatures. She was also told that the tall Elders could see through the eyes of the gray Watchers, which were in effect living monitors for them.

Betty was privy to many sights on the huge mother ship. At one point she was shown a TV-like device, which had recorded a childhood scene from her past at church. She also witnessed a strange ceremony performed
by Elders, a trip to earth with an Elder in an out-of-body state. There she saw how Elders secretly helped mankind while in this invisible state of being.

The crowning event of this particular abduction experience was being brought again to the Great Door and entering to see The One. But, again, the hypnotist was not able to persuade Betty to describe the beauty and love she experienced behind the door.

Afterward she was again placed in the round craft that had brought her to the mother ship. The craft returned to earth. Betty was placed back into the blue-glowing orb, which descended to the ground just outside the trailer. She entered and went to the bedroom where Bob was sleeping. She was shocked to the core when she saw her physical body in bed before she entered it. Betty had no idea how her physical body got back to the trailer while she was still in an OBE state of being.

A few other curious things were revealed under hypnosis. One involved a 1988 incident in their car while on their way home from a drive-in movie. For some reason they took a lonely route home. As they passed an apple orchard, something hit the car. A bright light enveloped it. Bob became paralyzed at the steering wheel. Amazed, Betty found that the car had been taken up into a craft into a large, open garage-like area. Another car was seen parked nearby. There appeared to be some kind of an altercation among some gray entities, which was dispersed by one of the tall robed Elders. Apparently they were not supposed to have been taken. They were returned to their car and later curious about the 45 minutes of missing time.

A 1989 abduction was most interesting because it involved Betty's daughter, Becky. Betty suddenly awoke and saw a multi-pronged object come through the window. It sprayed out streaks of light. Betty came out of her body and found herself beside a gray entity in a room aboard a craft. There, she was shocked to see Becky working at some kind of a console that had strange hieroglyphic-like writing on it. She rushed to Becky. When Betty's hand touched Becky, her hand passed right through her. An alien told Betty that they had been training Becky in “the letters” since she was a child but did not tell Betty why.

Betty was then placed in a blue sled-like machine, which traveled along a track. They disembarked and went into another room. On the way they passed a pie-shaped section, where Betty saw a naked woman lying on a table. She looked again and realized it was her own physical body lying there! The tall Elder had Betty enter her body. Betty was told that her physical body had been prepared for future OBE abductions. She was made to stand on a platform. Bright light surrounded her and she found herself back home in bed.

This ended our Part IV sessions with Betty and Bob. This session revealed that their children also were being abducted. As mentioned, several were seen being examined by small gray entities by Betty during her 1978 OBE abduction. This new information instigated an inquiry into what Betty's other family members may have experienced. Unfortunately, only Betty's daughter Becky agreed to undergo hypnosis. Other members of her and Bob's family refused. They wanted no part of an investigation.

The earliest hint of Becky having been abducted occurred when a neighbor knocked on Betty's door. She asked if she knew Becky was outside playing with no clothes on. Betty rushed outside and picked Becky up. She could not understand how Becky got out of her crib into the yard through a locked door. Also, she had diapered Becky before putting her to bed. Now she was naked. This event remained a mystery to Betty and later to Becky for years. A hypnosis probe was conducted on February 5, 1994. Becky was regressed to being in her crib that night. She relived what happened in detail. Brief excerpts from the session follow.

“
It's, it's dark and there's light shining through and a pretty person (robed Elder) is there, smiling, looking at me.…And I'm lifted up
—
held—I'm being held.… I'm going right up…like an elevator…It's dark out…going toward the trees…and we're in a room.… There's a seat. It's, ah, like an L shape.… The
pretty person
is sitting me down there and spraying me with air, misty air.…Putting on a T-shirt

looks like a T-shirt—getting down.… I'm walking over to my left.”
