“Also agreed,” Connor declared, holding out his hand to
Jocelyn. He trusted Jocelyn to safeguard the information in such documents just
as she’d safeguarded his heart and his honor.

She placed hers on his, as each man took his wife’s hand,
accepting their arrangement. With the sounds of merriment echoing through the
large chamber, Connor gathered Jocelyn close and touched his mouth to hers.

“You will be too softhearted to make these choices,” he
warned.

“We shall see, husband. We shall see,” she promised.

And within a year, their matchmaking efforts began in earnest
when it was decided that Ciara, Marian and Duncan’s daughter, should marry. The
women and men each thought they knew best, but only time and love would
tell.
